    Quaint home-like suites, attentive staff

I liked the quaint, home-like feel - the suites are large, clean and well-maintained, the food is excellent, and staff (CNAs included) are attentive and often go above and beyond. Activities are creative and frequent, and pricing felt more affordable for the size and quality. My concerns were care gaps during the week (slow help after incidents), sporadic apartment cleaning, poor front-desk responsiveness and some access/monitoring issues during construction. They did apologize and compensate for a delivery mistake, and overall I would recommend this place for my mom's needs despite a few service inconsistencies.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is mixed but leans positive regarding the physical suites, dining, and many staff members. Multiple reviewers emphasize that the apartments are spacious and well-sized, the building is attractive and well-maintained, and suites are generally clean. Several comments highlight a welcoming, home-like atmosphere and describe staff as attentive, caring, and willing to go above and beyond. The dining program receives consistently positive mentions: reviewers cite generous portions, quality food, three meals a day, and an appealing dining area.

Staff and care quality are recurring themes with both strong praise and serious concerns. Numerous reviews describe staff (including CNAs) as super nice, caring, and attentive — contributing to residents feeling well looked after. At the same time, several reviewers report operational problems: front-desk responsiveness is inconsistent (some say the front desk is friendly; others say it rarely answers), and there are specific complaints about short staffing and care gaps. Notably, one review reports delayed assistance after a fall, which raises safety concerns. Another comment mentions lack of door/phone monitoring as an additional safety-related issue. The pattern suggests that while dedicated caregivers are present, staffing levels or shift coverage may sometimes be insufficient, especially during certain times or days.

Activities and housekeeping show variability across reviewers. Some residents praise creative, varied activities and an active social environment, whereas others say activities are limited or nearly non-existent. This contradiction suggests that programming may vary by unit, time period, or individual experiences. Housekeeping is similarly inconsistent: an optional cleaning service exists and some reviewers appreciate clean suites, but several comments report infrequent apartment cleaning. This inconsistency may reflect differing service packages or irregular scheduling.

Operational and management issues surface in multiple reviews. One reviewer mentioned a wrong delivery that was acknowledged by staff and remedied with an apology and punch-card compensation, but the resident had to drive eight miles to return the item — an inconvenience that points to logistical friction. Other recurring operational complaints include access problems due to construction and a frequently full mailbox. Cost perceptions are mixed: one reviewer says the community is more affordable than alternatives, while another calls it high-priced. Finally, amenities beyond the apartments themselves are noted as limited by some reviewers, describing the facility as quaint but with fewer extras.

In summary, Suites of Ankeny appears to offer strong advantages in apartment size, upkeep, dining quality, and many compassionate staff members who create a welcoming environment. However, prospective residents and families should be aware of variability in front-desk responsiveness, housekeeping frequency, activity availability, and potential staffing shortfalls that have led to care gaps in some instances. Operational hiccups like delivery errors, construction-related access issues, and mailbox problems have been reported but are sometimes handled with apologies and compensation. The overall pattern suggests a community with many strengths that may require clarification on staffing levels, safety protocols, and service consistency before moving in.

    About Suites of Ankeny

Suites of Ankeny sits on a peaceful property at 420 NW Ash Drive, Ankeny, Iowa, where the community offers several types of senior living, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, nursing care at SunnyView Care Center, and short-term respite stays, all on a campus with large rooms and floor-to-ceiling windows that fill the space with natural light and help the place feel more open, which is good for folks who like to have family and friends visit and share a meal in the dining area, eat chef-prepared food, and have coffee or snacks throughout the day. The staff stays on-site around the clock, offering a safe place where seniors can feel secure, and they help with daily needs like meals, medication, and hygiene, while also offering medication management, transportation, and scheduling off-site medical visits, so families don't have to worry as much about the details. Residents get to enjoy a fully-equipped gym, group exercise classes, and activities like trivia, Bible study, board games, music therapy, Nintendo sport challenges, social events, and group outings, while there's always a view of the lake and a fishing pond and dock that seem to draw in grandchildren when they visit, and volunteers can join in by playing cards, performing, or serving dinner, making the place lively without being overwhelming. The community makes an effort to connect with business and multicultural events-like Summerfest through the chamber membership-giving residents a chance to feel part of what's going on in town, and there's even a chamber store on site for convenience. For those needing memory care, there's a specific program to give more support, and for folks recovering or giving caregivers a break, respite care is available by the day, week, or month, while nursing care includes supervision by skilled health professionals, so all levels of support are covered. Rooms come in one- or two-bedroom options, with space for personal things, and seniors can choose the care that fits their situation, staying as independent as possible for as long as possible, which seems to be the heart of how things work at Suites of Ankeny, while having help always on hand if needed, right down to the details of arranging transportation or getting help for off-site doctors' appointments. The place feels welcoming, with programs to help keep minds and bodies active, meals that get input from residents, and a focus on keeping life dignified but comfortable, making it a choice for folks who want a little less worry, a little more peace, and a steady routine without too much fuss.
