    Beautiful community with caring staff

I toured this beautiful, modern community and was very impressed - stunning building with big windows and wooded views, clean spacious apartments, excellent dining and a busy calendar of activities. Most of all the staff were warm, professional and genuinely caring (Danielle and others stood out), creating a safe, home-like, welcoming atmosphere I'd recommend to families.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: Reviews of Stirlingshire of Coralville are predominantly positive, with a strong emphasis on warm, caring staff, a newly built and well‑maintained facility, varied activities, and chef‑prepared meals. Many reviewers describe personal experiences where staff went above and beyond, providing compassionate, family‑style care and creating a welcoming community atmosphere. The facility’s modern design, natural light, forest‑adjacent setting, and convenient Coralville location are repeatedly praised and contribute to residents’ and visitors’ positive impressions.

Care quality and staff: A major strength repeatedly cited is the staff — from front desk receptionists and marketing/admissions personnel (several reviewers named Danielle positively) to CNAs, nurses, and dining staff. Numerous comments describe staff who are attentive, respectful, and responsive to residents’ needs, creating a home‑like environment. Reviewers highlight proactive maintenance and hands‑on assistance (assembling scooters, adjusting shelving), coordination with outside healthcare providers, and long‑tenured caregivers who build relationships with families. The memory care neighborhood and activity programming for memory support receive favorable mentions. However, there are serious outlier complaints about staffing and care lapses: some reviewers reported understaffing, delayed vital monitoring, medication given at inappropriate times, and at least one account alleging a fall and fatality linked to insufficient oversight. These negative reports are not the majority, but they are significant. They create a pattern of inconsistent care experiences for different families and underscore the importance of confirming current staffing levels and clinical oversight when evaluating the community.

Facilities and amenities: Stirlingshire is repeatedly described as modern, bright, and clean — a new or nearly new building with attractive design details, large windows, and wooded views. Apartment layouts, including roomy one‑bedrooms with full kitchens and large bathrooms, are praised, as are common amenities such as an on‑site salon, gym, theater/media room with comfortable seating, cafe, screened porches, and accessible dining rooms. The property’s forest setting and proximity to shopping, hospitals, and major roads are commonly cited as advantages. Many reviewers mention a resort‑hotel feel balanced with homelike spaces for family gatherings.

Dining and activities: Dining is a strong selling point for many families: three chef‑prepared meals daily, attractive presentation, and accommodating kitchen staff receive many positive remarks. Names of individual kitchen team members (e.g., Dreton, Nicol, and a personable chef) came up in praise. A minority of reviewers noted issues such as meals being skipped or a decline in food quality over time (too salty or less desirable), and some wished for more fresh fruits and vegetables or broader menu options. Activity programming is another frequently lauded area: creative directors and staff run arts and crafts, music, painting, movie nights, outings, and special events that contribute to residents’ social engagement. Still, a few reviewers found activities uninteresting or insufficient, reflecting variability in how well programming matches individual resident preferences.

Management and operations: Many reviewers compliment admissions and marketing staff for thorough, welcoming tours and smooth move‑ins. Families report good communication and support during transitions and emergencies. Conversely, there are criticisms that at times corporate decisions, budget cuts, or staff turnover have negatively affected service levels (especially in dining or administration). Several reviewers advised that while the community is expensive, many feel it’s worth the cost for the level of care and amenities; others noted unexpected charges or that care quality didn’t meet expectations during serious illness.

Patterns and recommendations: The dominant themes are a caring, friendly staff; a beautiful, modern facility; strong programming and amenities; and high resident satisfaction for many. Nonetheless, the presence of multiple, serious negative reports about staffing shortages and care lapses — though not the majority — forms an important counterpoint. The reviews indicate variability: some families experienced exemplary, reassuring care while others reported neglect or reduced standards. Prospective residents and families should weigh the overwhelmingly positive comments about environment, staff, and activities against the outlier safety and staffing concerns.

Practical advice for families considering Stirlingshire of Coralville: schedule a tour (many reviewers praised the tour experience), meet clinical leadership and ask about nurse coverage and staffing ratios, inquire about recent staffing turnover and measures to ensure consistent care, request current menus and samples, ask how the community handles medication administration and monitoring, review incident reporting and family communication practices, and clarify all fees (upfront and monthly) and extra charges. Overall, the community receives many strong endorsements for quality of life, amenities, and staff compassion, but due diligence on staffing and clinical oversight is recommended given the reported variability in care experiences.
