    Large campus, caring staff, incident

I toured the facility and was impressed by the large, carpeted rooms, spotless common areas, bright dining room with three meal choices and lots of food options, and an abundance of activities and amenities (puzzle rooms, sitting areas, huge garden). The campus is large, well-kept, offers all levels of care (independent, assisted, memory care) plus townhome options and the rehab department was excellent - my parents liked the location and proximity to assisted living. Staff I met were knowledgeable, accommodating and genuinely caring, though a few felt less personable and my visit on a quiet Sunday gave limited firsthand exposure; I did witness one serious incident (chair thrown from a window). Overall a lovely, home-like place that spares no expense - I'd give it a 7/10.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the review summaries for Spurgeon Manor is largely positive, with repeated praise for the facility’s physical environment, range of care levels, and many amenities. Reviewers consistently describe the campus as beautiful and well-kept, with bright, clean common areas and dining rooms. The grounds and garden are repeatedly highlighted, and multiple indoor amenity spaces (sitting rooms, puzzle rooms) were noted. Room sizes are described as larger than average and generally very clean. The availability of all levels of care (independent, assisted, memory care, and end-of-life care) is a major selling point and was directly mentioned as a strength by reviewers who looked at or toured memory care and other units.

Care quality and clinical services receive favorable comments. The rehab department is singled out as excellent, and several summaries describe staff as knowledgeable, accommodating, and able to answer questions thoroughly. End-of-life care was explicitly called out as well-staffed and excellent in at least one summary. Residents are described as happy and well cared for, and the facility is characterized by some reviewers as feeling like “home” rather than an institutional setting, with staff frequently going above and beyond.

Staff interactions are generally described in positive terms — loving, kind, genuinely caring, and sometimes providing extras — but there are important nuances. While many summaries praise staff competency and helpfulness, others point to variability: one summary emphasized a single staff member as particularly courteous and knowledgeable, another said staff could be more personable, and several reviews noted limited firsthand contact with staff during the visit. This pattern suggests that while the staff perform well clinically and make a strong overall impression, individual experiences may vary and there may be occasional gaps in day-to-day personal engagement or weekend coverage.

Dining and activity offerings are strengths in several reviews. The dining program is noted for offering variety (three meal choices and multiple food options), and the dining room itself is bright and clean. Activity-wise, reviewers mentioned a range of options and amenities that support engagement (puzzle rooms and other communal spaces). However, a visit on a Sunday afternoon was described as quiet, which could reflect fewer scheduled activities or lower staffing/participation on weekends. Prospective residents and families may want to confirm the typical weekly activity schedule and weekend programming to ensure it matches their expectations.

There are a few red flags and caveats to consider. One review referenced a violent outburst in which a chair was thrown out a window — a serious safety concern that appeared to be an isolated report but should be investigated further by asking the facility about incident history, safety protocols, and staff training for behavioral events. Another reviewer gave an overall 7/10 experience, indicating there is room for improvement despite generally favorable impressions. Additionally, one comment suggested possible inauthentic or “rigged” review content (mentioning Eswatini), which raises a caution about relying solely on online summaries; families should verify details in person. Several summaries also noted limited firsthand information about staff due to possibly brief or weekend visits, underscoring the importance of multiple visits at different times.

Location and housing options are positively noted. The facility’s location is described as favorable, parents liked the area, and a townhome option with proximity to assisted living is highlighted as a useful feature for people who want more independent living while retaining access to care. Management and groundskeeping appear competent — the grounds are well taken care of and the facility presents as spares-no-expense in some reviewers’ impressions.

In sum, Spurgeon Manor presents as a well-appointed, multi-level senior community with strong clinical services (notably rehab and end-of-life care), attractive common spaces, varied dining, and an overall home-like atmosphere. The primary areas to probe further during a tour would be consistency of staff-personal engagement, weekend activity levels, incident history and safety measures related to behavioral events, and seeking multiple in-person impressions rather than relying solely on summaries. These follow-ups will help determine whether the generally positive patterns seen in the reviews are consistent with an individual family’s needs and expectations.
