    Compassionate staff restored mom's mobility

I placed my mom here and am so grateful - the staff treated us like family, were compassionate through five surgeries, and the therapy team got her walking again and home. Nurses, CNAs and therapists were attentive, knowledgeable and responsive, keeping me informed and even offering emotional support during her passing. The facility was clean, meals and activities were good, and intake/therapy were prompt and effective. I would choose them again and highly recommend their rehab and caring staff.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews for Harmony Dubuque is predominantly positive, with a particularly strong and consistent pattern of praise centered on the rehabilitation services and the people who deliver care. The therapy program is repeatedly described as excellent, state-of-the-art, and outcome-focused; reviewers credit the therapy team with concrete functional improvements, rapid recovery, and successful transitions back to assisted living or home. Multiple reviewers noted seven-days-a-week therapy availability, a goal-oriented approach that pushed patients to their potential, and detailed education on medication and wound care. Individual therapists and therapy staff are frequently named and praised, underscoring that the rehab department is a primary strength and major draw for short-term stays and skilled nursing needs.

Staff quality beyond therapy is another dominant positive theme. Numerous reviewers describe nursing staff, CNAs, aides, kitchen workers, housekeeping, social workers, and administrators as caring, friendly, attentive, and respectful. Stories of staff forming a "family-like" atmosphere recur—staff who know residents by name, provide emotional support to families, and go above and beyond during difficult moments (including end-of-life and hospice situations). Administration and management are often noted as welcoming and communicative, with specific praise for discharge planning, assistance with applications and transitions, and practical support such as transportation to appointments. Multiple accounts highlight prompt responses to call buttons, timely medication delivery, and strong coordination among therapy, nursing, and social work teams.

Dining, cleanliness, and amenities receive largely favorable mentions. Reviewers commonly praise the kitchen and dietary staff, describing meals as good to delicious and noting dietary counseling and menu-based options. Many found rooms and grounds clean and well-kept, and the location (quiet street, privacy for services like church) was viewed positively. Activities programming—cards, bingo, crafts, and entertainment—was described as engaging and helpful for socialization and recovery. A number of reviewers also appreciated COVID-era adaptations such as FaceTime and window visits, drop-off meals and treats, and proactive communication during lockdowns.

However, there is a nontrivial set of negative reports that must be acknowledged. A minority of reviewers describe serious problems, including allegations of neglect (patients left unattended on toilets, basic care unmet), claims of abuse, prejudiced management, and calls to avoid the facility or shut it down. Some families reported visitation denials and lack of transparency during particular incidents. These accounts are less frequent than the positive reviews but are severe in nature; they contribute to an impression of inconsistent quality across different stays, units, or time periods. Other recurring concerns are staffing shortages or CNA turnover, occasional slow responsiveness at the outset of a stay, and a few comments that the environment can feel institutional or that rooms are smaller than desired. A small number of reviewers also expressed worries that corporate priorities sometimes overshadow individualized care.

Taken together, the dominant pattern is that Harmony Dubuque is highly regarded for short-term rehabilitation, therapy-driven recovery, and compassionate staff who support both patients and families—many reviewers explicitly "highly recommend" the facility for skilled nursing and rehab. The most frequent praise centers on therapy outcomes and the personal attention from nurses, CNAs, and administrative staff. At the same time, the presence of severe negative allegations—though relatively rare in comparison to positive reports—introduces important caveats. Prospective residents and families should weigh the strong likelihood of excellent rehab and supportive care against the variability reported by some reviewers. For those considering Harmony Dubuque, it is advisable to tour the facility, meet the care team, ask about staffing and turnover, inquire specifically about infection-control and transparency policies, and confirm how the facility handles family communication and visitation, especially for longer-term placements. Overall, Harmony Dubuque appears to excel as a rehabilitation and short-term skilled nursing provider, with generally high praise for staff and outcomes, while some isolated but serious complaints suggest that experiences can vary and warrant due diligence prior to long-term commitment.
