    Good care, safety concerns persist

I've seen many staff be professional, caring and skilled - nurses, aides and therapists provided attentive, compassionate care, good therapy and even hospice support while helping with paperwork and misplaced items. Since new ownership there have been troubling lapses: distracted or unresponsive caregivers, rough handling, a fall while a nurse was on the phone (with no apparent reprimand), delayed toileting/bedpan incidents, lost items and inconsistent food/service. It's a beautiful community with many happy residents, but safety and responsiveness need urgent improvement before I'd fully recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is predominantly positive, centered on compassionate, professional staff and strong clinical and survey performance, but tempered by several serious and recurring concerns about safety, responsiveness, and inconsistent care following changes in management. Multiple reviews praise the facility for its kind, helpful and knowledgeable staff — nurses, aides, therapists and leadership receive repeated commendation. Families highlight specific employees (e.g., Michelle and Brittany) and instances where staff were quick to locate misplaced items, assisted with insurance and long-term care filings, and delivered attentive support during hospice and end-of-life care. Therapy services and skilled nursing are frequently noted as strengths, and the facility’s deficiency-free annual survey is cited as evidence of good compliance and effective survey management. Recreational programming and event coordination also contribute to positive resident morale, with several mentions of happy, smiling residents and a beautiful, welcoming community environment.

Praise is consistent around responsiveness to family concerns and individualized care: reviewers report timely nursing attention, emotional support for families, and attention to special needs such as food allergies. Leadership is commended in multiple accounts for stepping in to help and for strong survey preparation and follow-through. These positive themes suggest a solid core of trained staff, effective clinical and therapy programs, and administrative competence that creates a generally high level of satisfaction for many residents and families.

However, several reviews describe serious negative incidents that create notable risk signals. There are reports of rough handling by CNAs and at least one fall where the nurse was allegedly on the phone during the incident and no corrective action was taken. Other accounts describe neglectful behavior (e.g., a bedpan left on a resident for over an hour), unresponsiveness, and staff perceived as incompetent. These accounts are described in strongly emotional terms (traumatized mother, strong dissatisfaction) and represent acute safety and quality-of-care concerns. Multiple reviews also tie these degrading experiences to a period of transition — new ownership/management and new caregivers — suggesting that staffing changes and turnover may be contributing to inconsistency in care and supervision.

There are also operational complaints of varying severity: loss of belongings during isolation moves, mixed reports about food quality (some reviewers note allergy needs are addressed while others call the food "lousy"), and at least one claim that complaints were ignored. While many positive comments reference laundry and dietary concerns being handled, the existence of both positive and negative reports indicates inconsistency rather than uniform performance in those areas. Taken together, these patterns point to fluctuating performance on non-clinical services and resident experience factors that often correlate with staffing stability and management oversight.

In summary, West Ridge Specialty Care appears to have many genuine strengths: compassionate hospice support, skilled therapy teams, caring and responsive staff members, engaged leadership, a deficiency-free survey record, and a pleasant community culture. These positives are meaningful and repeatedly cited by grateful families. At the same time, the facility has serious reported shortcomings — notably incidents of rough handling, alleged neglect, and a fall with a questionable staff response — that warrant prompt attention. The negative reviews appear concentrated around a period of management/staffing transition, suggesting that focusing on staff training, supervision, incident investigation and transparent communication with families could reduce these risks. Specific recommendations based on the patterns observed: reinforce CNA handling and safety training, review and follow up on fall-related incidents and discipline processes, audit complaint tracking and resolution workflows, stabilize staffing/turnover during ownership transitions, and continue to monitor food and laundry services for consistency. Addressing these targeted areas should help preserve the facility’s many strengths while reducing the serious safety and quality concerns raised by some reviewers.
