    Exceptional clean assisted living nearby

I placed my dad at this beautiful, extremely clean tier-1 assisted living about 28 miles from Des Moines and close to our home. He has a large, all-inclusive apartment with an ensuite, exceptional food from three chefs, and daily temperature checks. Staff are super friendly and helpful - there's been some turnover but the new team is excellent - and his doctor even reduced two meds that were causing pain. It truly feels like home; I highly recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is strongly positive. Multiple reviewers emphasize that Eden Acres Campus of Perry Lutheran Homes is extremely clean and well taken care of, with a beautiful facility and well-maintained grounds. The physical accommodations receive high marks: apartments are described as large, include private ensuite bathrooms, and feel homelike. One reviewer explicitly labels the location as "tier 1 assisted living," indicating a perception of high-quality residential care.

Dining and amenities are highlighted as particular strengths. Reviewers repeatedly praise the food, noting that there are three chefs and that mealtime offerings are "exceptional." The fact that pricing is reported to "include everything" was presented as an important convenience and value factor by at least one reviewer. Routine safety protocols such as daily temperature checks were also mentioned, suggesting attention to health monitoring and infection control practices.

Staff and care quality receive largely glowing feedback. Several comments call staff "pleasant," "helpful," "amazing," and "super friendly," and reviewers repeatedly say the place "feels like home." The resident community is also portrayed positively, with mentions of friendly residents and an overall welcoming atmosphere. Reviewers report being comfortable recommending the campus and note proximity to family (one review points out the campus is about 28 miles from Des Moines and was "close to dad").

There are a couple of notable concerns that appear across the summaries. One reviewer described a medication change—specifically that a doctor lowered two medications—which they linked to causing pain; that points to at least one instance where a clinical decision had an adverse impact from the family/resident perspective. Another theme is staff turnover: while many reviewers praise the staff, a comment about turnover and hope for improvement with a new team indicates some instability or recent staffing changes that have caused concern. These issues are mentioned less frequently than the positives but are meaningful because they relate directly to continuity of care and clinical decision-making.

In synthesis, Eden Acres Campus of Perry Lutheran Homes is depicted as a high-quality, well-maintained assisted living community with strong dining, pleasant staff, and a warm, homelike environment. Its all-inclusive pricing and robust amenities are valued by reviewers, and safety practices are in evidence. The primary areas to watch are clinical management in isolated cases (medication adjustments) and staff turnover; these represent the main negatives in otherwise consistently favorable feedback. Overall, reviewers highly recommend the community and express confidence in its facilities, food service, and resident environment, with only limited concerns about recent staffing transitions and one reported medication-related issue.

About Eden Acres Campus of Perry Lutheran Homes

Eden Acres Campus of Perry Lutheran Homes sits at 1300 28th Street in Iowa, where you'll find a Christian, caring community with roots going back to 1957, and it's grown into a place where seniors live with purpose, dignity, and connection. The buildings remain clean and well-kept, and they've got secure areas with emergency call systems and indoor corridors for safe movement, which helps if the weather turns or if folks want to socialize inside, and there's always trained staff on hand, day and night, for support and care as people need it. Residents pick from private or semi-private rooms, some within specialized wings like St. James for memory care-which won recognition for its life-skills and environmental programs-and St. John's for advanced memory needs, using sensory work to support those with Alzheimer's or other dementia, and folks recovering from surgery or illness often stay in St. Luke's suites, which are private spots built for everyday comfort and easy access to therapy.

Outdoors, folks gather in pretty courtyards and patios, or take walks along internal and external pathways, and there's spaces indoors for worship, games, music, visiting with friends, and getting a haircut at the beauty and barber shop. What's really unique here is the focus on intergenerational living, so there's on-site daycare where seniors and children interact, which brings a bit of joy and helps folks feel connected, with All-Ability Bicycles and special Purposeful Projects to keep minds and bodies active. The IdentitE program, another feature of the campus, pushes engagement, learning, creativity, exercise, and spiritual enrichment, always aiming to treat everyone as a whole person. Meals are prepared and delivered for those who need them, including Meals on Wheels for not only good food but also a friendly check-in, and there's laundry and other daily help available.

Services range from independent living apartments (some with garage access and several floor plans), to assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, home care, and respite suites for those needing shorter stays or recovery time, and seniors can reach out for adult out-of-home respite care as well. Specialized therapy is a big part of Eden Acres too, with physical, occupational, and speech-language pathology available on-site, and for those looking to age in place or transition as needs change, the community acts as a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) so folks don't have to leave if their care needs shift. Perry Lutheran Homes puts faith at the center of daily life with dedicated worship spaces and a Christ-centered mission, aiming for compassionate, meaningful service, and fostering a sense of family with personal care plans and plenty of ways to stay busy or find comfort. Amenities are tailored for seniors but always kept adaptable, clean, and welcoming, and while no place does everything perfectly, Eden Acres continues to earn steady, positive reviews for how it blends community, spirituality, and care in one location.
