    Caring staff, clean facility, caveat

I'm deeply thankful for the compassionate, friendly staff - nurses, CNAs, therapists and activity team - who went above and beyond, kept me safe, communicated with my family, and helped me make real rehab progress so I could go home. The facility felt clean, cozy and like family. One caveat: a doctor I dealt with was unfeeling and unresponsive, so I'd recommend checking the doctor first.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews for New Castle Nursing & Rehabilitation is strongly positive, with persistent praise centered on the quality of care, the compassion of the staff, and successful rehabilitation outcomes. Multiple reviewers describe staff as caring, kind, and compassionate — often going "above and beyond" and making residents and families feel welcomed, safe, and at home. Specific staff members are called out by name (such as Kelly Holcomb and Courtney) as assets to the facility, and CNAs and nurses receive repeated commendation for promoting safety, smiling, and meeting residents' daily needs.

Clinical and rehabilitative care is frequently highlighted as a strength. Several reviewers reported excellent therapy progress and successful returns home after rehab, with at least one reviewer noting a positive experience with a named doctor (Dr. Jones). The facility is presented as effective for post-acute rehabilitation: reviewers described clear therapy progress, good clinical support, and willingness to return for future rehab needs. This clinical success combined with attentive caregiving contributes to strong recommendations and a sense of peace of mind for families.

Communication with families is another recurring theme. Reviewers emphasize constant or frequent updates, responsiveness, and a family-like relationship between staff and relatives. This consistent communication helped families feel involved and reassured about their loved ones' care. Reviewers also noted operational positives such as quick completion of tasks, cleanliness of residents, cozy beds, and an overall home-like environment that encourages resident happiness and comfort.

The facility’s social and activity offerings are also praised: multiple mentions of an "awesome" activity director and many resident activities suggest a robust programming approach that keeps residents engaged and contributes to an enjoyable day-to-day experience. The combination of social engagement, cleanliness, and friendly interactions paints a picture of a facility focused on resident quality of life as well as clinical needs.

There are a few concerns and patterns to note. While most comments about care teams are positive, reviewers point to variability in physician bedside manner and responsiveness. One review specifically warns that an "unfeeling" doctor who would not listen led to hospitalization and recommends prospective residents or families "check the doctor first." This indicates that, although nursing and therapy staff are strong, physician-related experiences may vary and can significantly affect perceptions of care. Another minor pattern is that staff are described as busy at times, which may lead to shorter interactions during peak periods; however reviewers generally frame this in the context of appreciation for the staff’s compassion and hard work despite being busy.

In summary, New Castle Nursing & Rehabilitation receives consistently high marks for compassionate caregiving, effective rehabilitation, strong communication with families, cleanliness, and engaging activities. The most significant caveat from the reviews is variability in physician interactions—an isolated but important concern to consider—along with occasional busyness that can shorten staff-resident interactions. Overall, reviewers express gratitude and confidence in the facility, with many explicitly recommending it for rehab and long-term care needs.

About New Castle Nursing & Rehabilitation

New Castle Nursing & Rehabilitation sits in the quiet town of New Castle, Kentucky, giving residents peaceful countryside views right outside the window, which a lot of people find calming after a busy life, and the facility has 50 certified beds, offering both skilled nursing and rehabilitation care for people who need either short-term recovery or ongoing nursing help, and they say every resident becomes part of the New Castle family because the staff tries to show compassion and treat folks like family. Christy Draque puts together activities every month so residents can join in, stay busy, and feel connected, and the facility has a home-like setting where people are encouraged to bring things from home to feel comfortable. New Castle offers therapies like physical therapy and occupational therapy, helps coordinate doctor visits, and provides social services, and it runs as a for-profit place owned by Providence Group Of Kentucky LLC, managed by people who have a direct stake, and linked to Pacs Group as noted in CMS data. The nurse turnover rate is 41.8%, which is lower than the state average, but the nurse hours per patient per day sits a little below average at 3.67, and residents get care that fits their needs, with features aimed at making recovery smoother. The home takes referrals day or night and has a calendar packed with activities, but there isn't much detailed public information on some of the programs, and there's been some delay in inspections-over two years in some cases-with a total of 7 deficiencies found in recent reports, including one related to infection control standards. The staff focuses on making it easy for residents to engage with them, so everybody can get to know one another, and the hope is always to help people feel safe and well cared for, whatever their needs might be, whether it's for a short stay after a hospital visit or a longer stay for general nursing care.
