    Kind staff inconsistent and unsafe

I like that staff are kind, residents get regular updates and outings, and families are welcomed - but chronic understaffing and scheduling problems mean care is inconsistent and unprofessional. I've seen missed medications and toiletry requests, skipped baths/feeding issues, stolen clothes, weight loss, sticky floors and urine smells. Management needs to fix staffing and culture - we moved my brother to Encore and his care improved.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the review summaries is mixed and polarized. Several reviewers praise individual staff members, describe a loving atmosphere where residents are happy, and note organized activities such as outings and trips as well as timely family communications (regular updates and mailers). At the same time, a substantial number of summaries cite serious operational and care concerns: chronic short staffing, inconsistent or missed personal and medical care, and reports of unprofessional conduct. The cumulative picture is one of a facility delivering good experiences for some residents while failing to meet basic expectations for others.

Care quality and daily living support are the most frequently cited areas of concern. Multiple summaries allege missed medication administration and unmet medication requests, which is a high-severity issue. Personal care lapses are reported as well: baths not given, hair not washed, and no drinks left in rooms. There are also notes of resident weight loss and catheter concerns, which may indicate inadequate monitoring or follow-up. Conversely, other reviewers explicitly state that staff are “very good to her” and that the resident is “very happy,” so care quality appears inconsistent—dependent on shift, staff assignment, or specific units within the facility.

Staffing, professionalism, and workplace culture emerge as central drivers of both the positive and negative reports. A recurring theme is that the facility is short-handed: reviewers mention busy staff, inconsistent availability, and scheduling problems that affect continuity of care. Several reviews call out unprofessional behavior—rudeness, a nurse seen smoking outside, and staff using phones while assisting residents during feeding times. At the same time, some reviewers single out particular employees as kind and respectful, indicating there are competent, caring staff members whose efforts are noticed by families and residents. Management-related issues are also mentioned: scheduling difficulties, negative workplace culture, and a sense that leadership is not adequately addressing staffing or conduct problems.

Facility condition and cleanliness are described inconsistently. Some reviewers praise cleanliness and the absence of odors, while others report sticky floors, a urine smell, and an exterior that looks deceptive compared with what is inside. Reports of clothes being stolen compound concerns about oversight and laundry or property-management practices. These conflicting observations suggest variability over time or between different wings/shifts. Activities and social environment receive positive remarks: several summaries emphasize outings, trips, and a family-welcoming atmosphere, which are important quality-of-life components.

Communication and transitions show mixed results. Positive notes include regular updates and mailers to families, and one reviewer reports a successful move of a relative to another facility (Encore), which they praise highly. This indicates that some families are satisfied with the level of communication and that alternative facilities may be viewed as superior for families seeking more consistent care. However, complaints about management responsiveness, scheduling, and unmet requests (medication, toiletries) point to gaps between family expectations and service delivery.

Patterns and takeaways: the reviews present a facility with uneven performance. Strengths include staff members who are caring and respectful, a generally pleasant social environment for some residents, and active programming. Weaknesses are concentrated in staffing levels, consistency of personal and medical care, professionalism, and some cleanliness/property control issues. The severity of some allegations (missed medications, hygiene neglect, theft) suggests these are priority areas for corrective action. For prospective residents or family members, it would be prudent to ask specific, recent questions about staffing ratios, medication administration protocols, laundry/property policies, and how management addresses missed care incidents. For the facility, prioritizing staffing stability, reinforcing professional standards, improving oversight of daily care tasks, and strengthening communication about corrective actions would address the most commonly reported concerns.

    About Camelot Brookside

Camelot Brookside is a for-profit, LLC-owned skilled nursing facility that takes both Medicare and Medicaid, which can help people with varied health needs, and while there's not much public information about the facility itself, it's managed by Central Control Management and sits near necessary places like Jennings Senior Care, Ochsner Health Center - Jennings Urology, and Walgreens Pharmacy, where residents can easily get what they need. The place provides extended care for those needing long-term support, and they handle specialized medical help, offering short-term rehabilitation, skilled nursing, long-term care, outpatient therapy, dementia care, respite care, and hospice or palliative care, with a focus on comfort and recovery through custom health plans. Residents receive help with daily activities like bathing, dressing, getting around, and managing medicines, and there's 12-16 hour nursing care, 24-hour supervision, a round-the-clock call system, and always somebody looking out for medical needs, which can be a relief for families worried about safety and well-being. There are plenty of on-site community services-daily activities on schedule, transportation if folks need it, and parking for visitors-plus the staff makes sure people can get to required check-ups or pharmacy visits, and the facility tries to address emotional, social, and cultural needs, providing individualized nursing care and making people feel respected at work and at home. Residents can join in social and recreational events like movie nights, music programs, and outdoor activities; use the activities room, arts and crafts space, game room, library, fitness room, enclosed courtyards, and walk in the gardens, or relax in the spa/wellness room. Meals are restaurant-style and the kitchen staff, including a professional chef, prepares food for many diets, including allergy and diabetes-friendly options, which is important for people with food issues. Rooms offer privacy with private bathrooms, cable TV, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, kitchenettes, and regular housekeeping, which can make daily life easier and more comfortable. The buildings are made to handle tough storms, standing up to 140 mph winds for hurricane safety, and there's modern security through cameras, gated entry, and swipe cards so residents stay safe both inside and out. The facility supports both long and short stays, offers help for non-ambulatory residents, has two well-equipped rehab areas, and keeps common areas warm and inviting, including a nice outdoor patio where people can rest and visit. All in all, Camelot Brookside tries to provide round-the-clock skilled nursing in a home-like setting, and while details can be hard to find, the focus appears set on supporting each person's health and well-being with the necessary services and comforts in place.
