    Compassionate attentive warm senior care

I moved my mom here and couldn't be happier - the staff are incredibly caring and attentive (Alana was knowledgeable and so helpful), and the facility feels warm and home-like. Her roomy private apartment and large bathroom, improving meals, effective therapy, spotless/safe environment, and nonstop activities (bingo, live music, salon, petting zoos) have really lifted her spirits. The team is compassionate, engaged, and community-oriented - I highly recommend this beautiful, family-focused place.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the review summaries is strongly mixed but leans positive in volume: a substantial majority of reviewers describe compassionate, attentive staff; a warm, family-like atmosphere; modern, clean facilities; good food; and engaging activities that improve residents' quality of life. Many reviewers explicitly call out the CNAs, nurses, and specific employees (notably "Alana") for professionalism, helpfulness, and clear communication. Multiple entries emphasize that the facility feels like a second home — private rooms, spacious apartment-style layouts, large bathrooms, and tasteful décor contribute to a comfortable environment. Amenities such as a salon, gym, courtyard, live music, petting zoos, and frequent activities (bingo, social programs) are repeatedly praised for increasing resident happiness and engagement. Therapy and rehab also receive positive mentions, with some families noting measurable progress.

Care quality and staff performance are dominant positive themes. Numerous reviewers state that caregivers are dedicated, loving, and attentive — they help with bathing, respect residents' dignity, and foster a nurturing atmosphere. Several accounts describe the staff as responsive, team-oriented, and effective in creating a safe, comfortable environment. The facility’s newness and clean presentation (spotless, fresh-smelling) are repeatedly cited as immediate strengths that help families feel confident about placing loved ones there. Admissions and customer-service interactions are also commended, with some reviewers describing the intake process and staff communication as reassuring and informative.

Facilities, dining, and activities are frequently highlighted as strengths. The physical plant is described as gorgeous, not like a traditional nursing home, and many reviewers appreciate private rooms and modern design that prioritize resident choice and privacy. Dining receives generally positive feedback: many reviewers say meals look amazing and are improving over time; some report meal preferences are honored. Activities are a clear asset — robust and varied programming, including live entertainment, social events, and therapeutic opportunities, is mentioned as enhancing residents’ moods and quality of life.

However, the reviews also contain multiple serious and troubling negative allegations that cannot be ignored. Several reviewers report systemic staffing issues — understaffing, aides asleep on shift, and instances where aides were pulled off the floor for meetings leading to delayed assistance. There are alarming claims of residents being left in rooms after falls, resulting in head injuries and hospitalizations. A few reviews make very serious criminal or unethical accusations, including aides using marijuana while working and allegations that management stole Medicaid/Medicare funds. Additional concerns include abuse allegations, reported director turnover (directors quitting or being fired), and at least one reviewer recounting that they had to clean for a resident because staff were unavailable. Some reviews describe a "horrible administrator" and poor hiring practices.

Taken together, these patterns point to a facility that, at least for many families, offers exemplary hands-on caregiving, comfortable surroundings, and engaging programming — yet that also may have inconsistent leadership and potentially severe lapses in supervision and safety. The positive comments are specific and repeated (caring staff, clean/new facility, activities, private rooms), suggesting those are consistent strengths. The negative comments, while fewer in number, allege very serious problems (neglect after falls, substance use on duty, financial malfeasance) that would warrant immediate attention and verification. The co-existence of raving endorsements and very severe accusations suggests either uneven performance across shifts/staff or that recent management/staffing changes have produced variability in care quality.

For prospective residents and family members, these reviews signal both attractive features and red flags. The facility appears to offer a high-quality physical environment, many committed caregivers, and strong social/therapy programming. At the same time, the allegations about understaffing, unresponsive aides, potential substance use, and accusations of financial or administrative wrongdoing are significant and should be investigated before making placement decisions. Practical steps for families considering this facility include: asking management about current staffing ratios and turnover rates, requesting recent state inspection surveys and complaint histories, inquiring about background checks/drug testing policies for staff, asking how falls and incidents are reported and investigated, reviewing meal plans and dietary accommodations, and speaking with current families about their recent experiences.

In summary, the overall picture is of a new, attractive facility with many strengths in staff compassion, environment, activities, and rehabilitation — but with a cluster of serious allegations and operational concerns that could materially affect resident safety and experience. The positive themes are numerous and detailed; the negative themes, while less common in number, are severe in nature. Prospective residents and families should weigh both sets of information carefully and perform targeted due diligence to verify the current operational and safety status of the community.

    About Calcasieu Community Care Center

Calcasieu Community Care Center is a nonprofit senior living facility that's been around since 1994, offering different care options for elders, like assisted living, independent living, skilled nursing, memory care, and hospice. The center holds a Medicare and Medicaid license, and folks can get help with long-term care, short-term rehab, and skilled nursing right there. Staff provide personal care, dressing, grooming, laundry, help with bathing and toileting, and medication support, and the memory care program uses personalized plans for people with dementia or Alzheimer's disease. The center features adult day services and non-medical home care, with Medicare-certified home health services for those who need it. Residents can pick from living arrangements like studios, single rooms, two-bedroom apartments, or private and semi-private rooms in nursing care.

The center operates on a person-centered care philosophy that aims to make daily life comfortable and safe, so you'll see safety features like handrails, wheelchair assistance, handicap access, sprinkler systems, and private bathrooms. Each of the four households has a kitchen, dining, living area, and outdoor space, and residents can use washers and dryers, cable TV, wifi, and guest parking. Amenities include a dining room, a café with coffee, drinks, and soft serve ice cream, a game and activity room, a salon or barbershop, a gym for rehabilitation, a fitness center, and a library, and staff keep up with housekeeping and maintenance. For trips out, there are transportation services, and the calendar is full of social and educational activities, arts and crafts, health and wellness programs, and family-friendly community events that welcome volunteers.

When it comes to health care, the facility offers nursing, podiatry, wound care, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy, all designed to support people returning home after illness or injury. The rehab gym is fully equipped for those therapies and staffed with professionals. Hospice support is also available, focusing on comfort and dignity at the end of life. There's education and advice about paying for care, understanding Medicare and Medicaid, and learning what to expect as someone moves through the different stages of senior care, with initial consultations and assessments for families. The center's social media pages, including Facebook, let families and caregivers stay connected, share experiences, or ask questions in a community forum, and there's a secure online platform for scheduling tours, assessments, or consultations with the staff.

Calcasieu Community Care Center has received recognition, such as the 2025 Bronze National Quality Award, for its commitment to quality care, though its overall rating is 2.0, so that's something families may want to consider. The center's mission focuses on providing support throughout the care spectrum, helping elders live with dignity, safety, and as much independence as possible.
