    Caring, homey memory care; recommended

I placed my aunt here and overall I'm very pleased - it's a small, family-run memory-care home with on-site management and medical staff, very clean, and the caregivers are genuinely caring, knowledgeable and responsive. The place feels homey and communal (puzzles, games, TV nights with popcorn, porch), close to doctors/Adventist hospital, affordable, and gives me real peace of mind because my aunt is happy and well cared for. Downsides: it's an older house with low lighting, limited bathrooms and some double rooms, occasional electrical and meal accommodation issues, and privacy/staff-turnover concerns have come up. For families wanting personal, attentive care in a cozy, community setting, I'd recommend it with those caveats.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is positive about the quality of personal care and the warmth of the staff, while recurring concerns center on the physical plant, some operational issues, and variability in services. The dominant theme is that Prince of Peace delivers attentive, family-style caregiving: reviewers repeatedly describe staff and owners as caring, knowledgeable, and responsive. Many families report peace of mind, say their relatives are happy and content, and explicitly recommend the facility. Multiple mentions of on-site medical personnel, a memory-care focus, and proactive communication point to a high-touch model of care that many families appreciate.

Staff, management, and interpersonal environment are consistent strengths. Reviews highlight friendly, cordial staff and owners who treat residents like family; staff availability and clear explanations during intake and ongoing care are repeatedly praised. Several reviewers mention an effective partnership between staff and families, on-site management that is helpful with logistics, and strong, compassionate attention to residents’ emotional needs. This strong relational element is reinforced by comments about a communal atmosphere, social spaces, and specific activities such as puzzles, games, and TV nights with popcorn.

At the same time, the facility’s physical characteristics and some operational details raise notable concerns. The building is described as an older, large house—homey to some, but in need of updates to lighting and décor. Multiple reviews call out low lighting or a dark atmosphere in living and dining areas, limited bathrooms, double-occupancy rooms, and an overall plain appearance. There are also specific maintenance and safety issues reported, such as electrical problems in bedrooms and at least one privacy/security incident where another resident entered a resident’s room. Several reviewers mention missing or damaged personal items, suggesting potential lapses in property management or resident supervision.

Dining and medical/dietary accommodations appear inconsistent. While some reviewers say meals are well-prepared, others report that staff failed to provide meals aligned with residents’ special medical conditions. This inconsistency is important for prospective residents with strict dietary or medical feeding needs. Similarly, activity programming is described inconsistently: some families praise plentiful activities and a relaxed, vibrant social life; others note a lack of daily activities. This suggests variability in programming by time, staff on duty, or resident mix, rather than an absolute absence or abundance of activities.

Communication and accessibility of management are generally positive, with multiple mentions of proactive outreach, clear explanations, and helpful initial visits. Cost is often framed positively—reviewers call the facility affordable compared with alternatives. However, some negative points could influence decision-making: staff turnover (some previously caring staff have left), the no-pets policy (pets not accepted, only visitation), and the need for facility modernization.

In summary, Prince of Peace is repeatedly praised for its compassionate, family-oriented care, strong staff-resident relationships, cleanliness, and convenient location in Takoma Park near medical services. These strengths make it attractive to families seeking a smaller, home-like memory care option with attentive staff and good communication. Prospective residents and families should, however, inspect the physical environment in person (lighting, room size, bathroom availability), ask for details about how the facility handles special medical diets and electrical/safety issues, and clarify activity schedules and staffing consistency. Those who prioritize personal attention and community atmosphere will likely find it a good fit; those requiring up-to-date facilities, robust medical dietary accommodations, or guaranteed private rooms may need to evaluate trade-offs carefully.
