    Bright welcoming community, pricey food

I toured and moved my mom into this bright, newer community with spacious, clean rooms, sunlit gathering areas and a well-equipped fitness center. The staff (Wendy stood out) were welcoming, attentive and helpful-answered questions, explained next steps and provide mobility/showering assistance. Lots of activities, outings and social spaces make it feel home-like and secure; it's excellent overall but somewhat pricey and the food was hit-or-miss.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the review summaries for Nelson Gables by Vivie is strongly positive, with frequent praise for the facility’s physical environment, staff, and activity offerings. Multiple reviewers highlighted the building as newer, very clean, and well maintained. Rooms are described as spacious and sunlit with many windows, creating an open, home-like feel. Common spaces and gathering areas are noted as comfortable and well set up, and an activity room with a big TV and nice seating was specifically mentioned.

The community’s activity and wellness programs are consistently presented as robust and varied. Reviewers mentioned musicians, talks, outings to town, and a general sense of an active calendar. The fitness center receives particularly high marks: excellent equipment, availability of a masseuse, and personal trainers were all called out. These amenities suggest a focus on both social engagement and physical wellness for residents.

Staff and care quality emerge as one of the strongest themes. Reviews repeatedly describe the staff as friendly, accommodating, warm, and helpful. Several summaries emphasize that staff are experienced, well regarded, and attentive—prepared, willing to answer questions, listen, and explain next steps. Specific care-related services such as mobility assistance and showering help were noted, and reviewers felt residents were well looked after. The admissions/tour experience also drew praise (one reviewer specifically named Wendy for an “awesome” tour), indicating good communication and a welcoming intake process.

Dining feedback is mixed and represents the most common specific criticism. While a few reviewers mentioned good food, at least one summary explicitly stated that the food was “not very good.” This inconsistency suggests variable dining experiences or differing expectations among residents and visitors. Cost is another notable concern; multiple reviewers described the community as expensive, which may impact decision-making for prospective residents comparing value and services.

In summary, Nelson Gables by Vivie projects a positive image: a clean, bright, and modern community with strong activity and wellness programming and a consistently praised, attentive staff. The environment is described as safe, home-like, and welcoming, with good support for mobility and personal care. Prospective residents should be aware of mixed reports about dining quality and consider cost as a potential downside. Overall, the reviews indicate a high-quality senior living option with strengths in facilities, staff engagement, and programming, tempered primarily by concerns around food and price.

    About Nelson Gables by Vivie

Nelson Gables by Vivie sits at 1220 Nokomis Street in Alexandria, MN, and is licensed by the State and regulated by the Minnesota Department of Health, which means staff follow certain important guidelines to help residents stay healthy and safe, and folks there generally find the place warm and welcoming no matter which service they use, like Assisted Living, Memory Care for Alzheimer's, Independent Living, Long-Term Care, and more, including Home Care, Adult Day Services, and Hospice, which means people can usually find the care they need and don't have to move around a lot if their needs change. The staff offers support with daily activities, like bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and managing medications, with help available all day and night through their 24-hour supervision and emergency call systems, so someone's always around if residents need help, and that can bring families some peace of mind. Nurses coordinate appointments, take care of prescriptions, and keep an eye on health changes, and there's a system in place for emergency alerts, and the buildings and grounds are wheelchair accessible, and handrails and secured areas help prevent falls or wandering, which is important for memory care. Nelson Gables tries to treat people with dignity and respect, offering a socially focused lifestyle where folks can join group activities, movie nights, yoga or exercise, games, story times, community-sponsored events, and even join a resident musical group or spend time in the arts and crafts room, or out in the community garden, walking paths, outdoor patios, and gardens-even the party room for family gatherings comes in handy, and there's a steady stream of offsite trips too. Residents can get meals in a dining room that serves all-day dining, including special diets for allergies or diabetes, and staff take care of housework, laundry, and dry cleaning, which helps keep things clean and comfortable, plus there are furnished private and semi-private rooms, full-sized kitchens, and telephone and television services, and you'll find WiFi and a guest policy that lets visitors come for meal times. Nelson Gables offers some nice extras like an on-site barbershop and spa, a community arts room, transportation and parking options, and in-house religious services, and they try to make moving in easier by helping coordinate everything in advance. The place has support for those needing rehabilitation, skin and continence care, money management, and even body positioning and whirlpool baths if needed, and for those needing extra health care, there's skilled nursing right there, and care is often adjusted for each person, and staff coordinate with other healthcare providers to offer more complete support if someone's condition changes. For those wanting to stay connected, there's free high-speed WiFi, and for many, knowing there are secure grounds, emergency systems, and round-the-clock staff means they can settle in and feel comfortable while staying as independent as possible with a little bit of help when they need it.
