    Clean, friendly community with activities

I placed my mom here and am very pleased - her newly renovated apartment and the clean, cheerful building feel homey. The staff are consistently friendly, caring and responsive, and management/nursing communicate well. There's a strong activity calendar (music, exercise, games, outings) and flexible dining with varied meals she enjoys. Convenient location, aging-in-place options and reasonable base/a-la-carte pricing made it the right choice for us - I would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Plaza Gardens is described overall as a clean, recently updated senior living community with a strong emphasis on social programming and resident engagement. Many comments emphasize friendly, compassionate staff, well-maintained common spaces, and newly renovated apartments. The community’s activity calendar—music, exercise classes, games and off-site trips—receives consistent praise, and families report good on-site nursing and responsive management. Location near downtown Anoka and clear, helpful tours are additional frequently cited strengths.

Care quality is generally characterized as attentive and resident-focused; reviewers frequently noted compassionate caregivers and engaged nursing staff. At the same time, reviewers identified variability in service consistency. There are notes about periodic staffing shortages that mirror industry-wide trends and, in at least one instance, an allegation of inadequate incontinence care. These items suggest that performance can fluctuate and that residents with higher or more specialized care needs may require closer evaluation of staffing levels, response protocols, and clinical oversight.

Dining and activities are both prominent features. The activities program is robust and varied, supporting daily engagement and social opportunities. Dining is flexible, with multiple options and an a la carte model that some families appreciate for choice. However, meal quality is described as variable—some residents enjoy most meals while others find the food only fair—so prospective residents should sample menus and ask about meal-service consistency.

Facilities and management receive positive comments for cleanliness, upkeep and a homelike feel in many areas; the building and interiors are repeatedly described as attractive and updated. A few reviewers found certain common areas darker or more institutional in tone, indicating some variability in ambiance. Pricing appears competitive at the base level, but the a la carte structure means cost transparency and a careful comparison of add-on fees are important during the decision process.

Bottom line: Plaza Gardens appears to be a well-kept, activity-rich community with strengths in staff compassion, facility condition, and location. Prospective residents and families should tour the community, observe meal service and activities, and ask specific questions about staffing patterns, incontinence-care protocols, emergency response, and a la carte charges to determine fit—particularly if higher-acuity care is anticipated.

    About Plaza Gardens

Plaza Gardens sits at 100 Monroe St in Anoka, Minnesota, and is associated with Walker Methodist and The Plaza by Vivie names, and folks will find it offers different living options under one roof, so if you're looking for independent living, assisted living, or memory care, it's all set up for that, and there are about 80 licensed beds in studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units, some with kitchenettes. The staff gets training for personalized care, which helps each resident stay as independent as possible, but they're always there for help with daily needs, medication, and personal care if it's needed. There's a focus on allowing residents to age in place, so if someone's needs change, they can usually move between care levels without having to leave the community, and they do respite care too, which gives short-term relief for caregivers when it's needed. Memory care residents get support around the clock and have specialized activities and routines built for Alzheimer's and dementia, while skilled nursing and rehab services are there for folks recovering from illness or injury. The building has a good reputation, with a 4.5 community rating from reviews, and stays licensed as an assisted living facility with dementia care in Minnesota. Altogether, Plaza Gardens is designed to support seniors with flexibility, caring staff, and different levels of help so they don't have to move out if needs change, and the place is built for safety, dignity, and comfort through every stage.
