    Nice facility, concerning memory care

I'm a family member and overall liked the bright, clean facility, welcoming front desk and nurses, caring staff, plentiful activities, good dining options and convenient amenities - residents seemed happy and apartments are spacious and safe. Staff knew residents by name, programming is varied, and the building is well maintained and centrally located. That said, I observed serious problems in memory care: neglect, inconsistent care, chronic understaffing/overworked caregivers, slow responses, staff distractions/language barriers and high turnover; billing is expensive and sometimes confusing. I would recommend this community for independent or assisted living but would not trust their memory-care unit without major staffing and management fixes.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews of The Plaza - Cityview by Vivie is mixed but leans positive: many reviewers consistently praise the staff, cleanliness, amenities, and active programming, while a recurring and significant concern is understaffing and its impact on timely care and service.

Care quality and staff: The most common positive theme is the staff — described repeatedly as friendly, caring, welcoming, and attentive. Numerous reviewers state that staff know residents by name, are kind and generous, and contribute to a joyful atmosphere. Several accounts say residents were happier shortly after moving in and that families felt reassured about safety and care. However, multiple reviews flag chronic staffing shortages, high turnover, and overworked caregivers. Specific problems tied to staffing include long wait times for assistance, slow responses to requests, late medication delivery, and situations where a single caregiver appears responsible for many residents or even multiple floors. These operational strain points lead to inconsistent care quality: some families report excellent, reliable care while others report neglect or poor care during certain shifts.

Facilities and cleanliness: The building and apartments receive strong positive comments. Reviewers highlight attractive, bright common areas, roomy apartments (in some cases with full kitchens and large closets), rooftop terraces, patios, garden boxes, salon, gym, and multiple activity rooms. The facility is frequently described as beautiful, well-maintained, and immaculate. That said, there are isolated maintenance and cleanliness issues reported (notably a trash odor near a particular floor/area), indicating that while overall standards are high, localized problems exist and have been raised by residents and visitors.

Activities, social life, and amenities: One of The Plaza’s clear strengths is its active, varied programming. Reviewers list a wide range of offerings — bingo, birthday celebrations, pancake breakfasts, tap-dancing entertainment, field trips, Bible study, creativity classes, yoga and other exercise classes, and social happy hours. These programs contribute strongly to residents’ social engagement and improved mood. On-site amenities such as the café, dining area, salon, community and exercise rooms, and transportation options are praised and appear to meaningfully enhance quality of life.

Dining: Dining receives mixed feedback. Many reviewers call the food very good or even phenomenal, appreciate meal choices, and enjoy communal dining. Others report inconsistencies: menu items sometimes unavailable, specials served dry or tough to chew, and general disappointment with particular meals. This split suggests that dining quality is often good but varies over time or by shift.

Management and organization: Several reviews praise the admissions team as organized and helpful, note flexible billing, and describe management as sympathetic and communicative about care plans. Conversely, other reviewers describe management as ineffective in addressing turnover and care inconsistency, and raise concerns about ownership/name changes. Multiple reviewers requested more structured resident/family input (a Family Council) and stronger community connection, indicating opportunities to improve transparency and involvement.

Patterns and notable concerns: The dominant negative thread across reviews is staffing — understaffing, long shifts, and turnover are repeatedly linked to delayed service, medication timing issues, and occasional lapses in care. These operational problems appear to be the primary driver behind otherwise isolated negative reports (dining lapses, odors, or perceived neglect). Cost and perceived value are also mentioned as concerns by some families. Positives cluster around environment, programming, and many individual staff members who are praised for compassion and competence.

Conclusion: The Plaza - Cityview by Vivie is widely regarded as a well-appointed, active, and clean community with strong programming and many compassionate staff members. For families prioritizing amenities, social life, and an attractive living environment, many reviews recommend the community. However, prospective residents and families should carefully assess current staffing levels and consistency of medical and personal care, inquire about medication administration protocols, turnover rates, and management’s plans to address staffing shortages. Visiting at multiple times (including evenings and weekends) and speaking directly with current residents and families may help evaluate whether the care consistency matches the generally positive impressions of facility, activities, and daily life.

About The Plaza - Cityview by Vivie

The Plaza - Cityview by Vivie sits at 131 Monroe St in Anoka, MN, and offers apartments for seniors, with floor plans ranging from studios to two bedrooms, where folks can choose from independent, assisted living, or memory care, depending on what fits best for their needs. The staff stays on hand all day and night, and residents get help with things like bathing, dressing, and taking medicine, along with regular health monitoring and care coordination if the doctor ever needs to get involved, and for those needing more help, there are skilled nurses on staff too. The building has safety features, call systems, and designs that make getting around easier, aiming for both accessibility and peace of mind. Folks can join in community-sponsored or resident-run activities that change each month, enjoy social programs, and take part in regular events, or just relax in communal spaces, a dining room, or the outdoor gardens, and if they need it, beauty and barber services are right there too. Meals are served daily, and the staff handles special dietary needs, including diabetes-friendly choices, while kitchenettes in the apartments let residents prepare their own food if they'd rather.
