    Beautiful community, caring staff, concerns

I live(d) here because it's a beautiful, apartment-like, pet-friendly community with nice grounds, a welcoming lobby and many amenities - and many caregivers (Diane and Erin especially) were compassionate, coordinated and genuinely caring. That said, I've seen troubling management turmoil (firings, resignations), an incompetent RN and ignored complaints, slow/unresponsive call-button responses, and recent closures of dining/beauty/activities plus rent hikes that have worried families. Overall I loved the staff and setting, but I'm concerned about leadership and reliability of care.

    Summary review

Overall impression: Reviews of Chaska Heights are mixed but lean positive in many personal-experience areas while showing clear operational and management-related concerns. Multiple reviewers emphasize warm, compassionate staff and an apartment-like environment that many residents love. At the same time, a subset of reviews highlights significant problems with management stability, uneven care responsiveness, and closure of amenities that materially affect resident experience.

Staff and care quality: The strongest and most consistent positive theme is staff attitude and individualized caregiving. Several reviewers explicitly call staff caring, compassionate, and willing to go above and beyond; specific staff members (Diane and Erin) are named for excellent, seamless care coordination. Many accounts describe a high-quality culture of caregiving and residents who enjoy living there as a direct result. However, contrasting reports raise serious red flags: at least one reviewer reports an incompetent RN, delayed or unresponsive call-button responses, and a resident left sleeping in a recliner overnight. Those negative accounts describe families moving out and ignored complaints. This creates a split picture: for many residents the staff and day-to-day care are exceptional, but there are documented instances of substandard or inconsistent care that prospective families should investigate further.

Facility, apartments and grounds: Multiple reviewers praise the physical property. Apartments are described as large, modern, and well-appointed, contributing to a non-institutional, apartment-like feel. Specific outdoor amenities — notably a secured, memory-care patio planted with flowers, herbs, and vegetables — are singled out, along with pet-friendly policies and a welcoming lobby. Grounds are generally reported as decently maintained, but some reviewers note cosmetic upkeep issues (need for fresh mulch and removal of dead plants). Overall, the physical environment is a major plus for many residents, though attention to landscaping detail could improve consistency.

Dining, activities and amenities: Reports here are notably mixed. Several reviewers state the dining has good variety and quality, while others describe the food as "horrendous." Likewise, many activities are cited as offered and a positive part of life at the community, but other reviews report that dining, the beauty shop, and activities have been closed and amenities have disappeared. The discrepancy suggests recent or variable operational changes — possibly related to staffing turnover or policy shifts — that have affected services for some residents. Prospective residents should verify current dining and activity offerings during a visit and ask about any recent or planned changes.

Management and operational stability: A prominent negative theme is management instability. Reviews mention firings of management staff, staff resignations, and families feeling ignored when they raise complaints. One review accuses tours of being deceptive. Rent increases are reported alongside reduced amenities, which fuels dissatisfaction. These operational concerns appear to have real consequences: some families are reportedly moving residents out, and closures of services have been tied in reviews to personnel shortfalls or administrative decisions. Management turnover and service reductions are significant patterns that could affect reliability and continuity of care.

Safety and infection control: At least one reviewer explicitly praises strong safety measures to prevent the spread of illness, which is an important positive datapoint. This indicates that infection-control protocols have been prioritized in at least some instances and are perceived as effective by some residents or family members.

Overall recommendation and considerations: The dominant positives are the compassionate staff, apartment-style living, attractive outdoor spaces (particularly the memory-care patio), and—depending on the reviewer—the quality of food and activities. The dominant negatives are inconsistent care responsiveness, management turnover, closures of services/amenities, and reports of deceptive practices during tours. In short, many residents seem very happy and cared for, but there is enough evidence of operational instability and inconsistent care that a prospective resident or family should do thorough, current due diligence: visit multiple times (including evenings/weekends), ask for recent staffing ratios and turnover rates, confirm which amenities and services are currently operating, observe call-button response times if possible, and request references from current residents or families. These steps will help determine whether the positive aspects are consistent at the time of decision-making or whether the negative patterns noted in some reviews are ongoing.

    About Chaska Heights

Chaska Heights is a senior living community in Chaska, Minnesota that offers independent living, assisted living, and memory care for older adults, so people can find the right option for what they need at different stages of aging, and while there's no long list of amenities or features available, there's a strong focus on community life with things like intergenerational visits, storytelling sessions, and community theater productions, which help keep people socially active and build connections between residents and the nearby community. Residents have access to healthcare support including diabetic care, non-ambulatory care, and incontinence care, and some folks who live at home can get help from trained aides who offer companionship and non-medical home care services, which can be an important support for staying independent. For people dealing with memory issues like Alzheimer's disease, there's a memory care option that uses special housing and therapies in a setting designed to keep people safe and oriented. Assisted living services include help with everyday things like bathing, dressing, and managing medication, so those who need a hand have someone there to help without having to leave their home for care. Chaska Heights uses modern technology to help monitor health and wellness, and they pay special attention to safety and cleanliness by using medical-grade cleaning methods and air purifiers, so everyone can feel safe. There are group spaces, both inside and in common areas, for gathering or taking part in activities. The staff takes care of household chores, so residents have more free time to enjoy activities, and the calendar has plenty of options like devotional gatherings and offsite trips for those who want to keep busy or just try something new at their own pace. There isn't much known about the pet policy, parking, or details about the building's exterior and special features, but the staff aims to provide support that matches what each person needs, letting residents live as independently as possible in a place that cares for their safety and wellbeing.
