    Misleading billing, poor communication, hostile

I toured Woodlawn Lodge and, while the facility is beautiful and some caregivers seemed dedicated, my experience was terrible: management was misleading, billed extra fees beyond what was promised, and had multiple billing discrepancies. Communication was poor to non-existent-staff were often unresponsive or hostile, refused to answer questions, and staffing problems felt like a staged cover-up; overall integrity and customer service were unacceptable.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the provided reviews is mixed but leans toward concern. Several reviewers praise attributes such as compassion, dedication, integrity, teamwork, and customer service — and the facility itself is described as beautiful. At the same time, a substantial number of complaints focus on communication, staffing, and financial transparency. The coexistence of strong positive descriptors about staff with strongly negative reports suggests inconsistent service quality across different encounters or locations.

Care quality and staff: Reviews present a sharp contrast on staff performance. On the positive side, some reviewers explicitly used words like "compassionate," "dedicated," and "great staff," indicating that when the team performs well, caregivers can provide warm, professional support. Conversely, multiple reviewers described staff as "clueless," "hostile," or "unresponsive," and complained about refusals to answer questions and failures to follow up. These negative accounts point to inconsistent interpersonal communication and reliability in caregiving. Staffing problems are specifically mentioned, which likely contributes to variability in care — shortages or turnover can produce both exemplary experiences (when staffed well) and problematic ones (when understaffed or poorly supervised).

Facilities, dining, and activities: The facility itself receives positive comments — "beautiful facility" is explicitly noted — but there is no substantive information in the summaries about dining quality or activity programming. Because reviewers did not provide details on meals or scheduled activities, no conclusions can be drawn about those areas from the supplied summaries. The positive note on the physical environment suggests that facility aesthetics or maintenance may be strengths, even if operational issues exist.

Management, communication, and operations: Management and communication emerge as major areas of concern. Repeated mentions of "poor communication," "did not follow up," and "refused to answer questions" indicate systemic issues in how the organization interacts with residents' families or prospective clients. Several reviewers raised alarm about financial and administrative practices: "misleading promises," "extra charges beyond what was included," "billing discrepancies," and general "pricing concerns." These complaints portray a pattern of unclear or changing cost expectations and billing errors or disputes. In addition, there are accusations of "alleged staging of calls," which, if accurate, suggest attempts to portray services more favorably than reality — a serious trust issue. Finally, reviewers described management as "unreliable," and one specifically cited a "poor closing of Woodlawn Lodge," indicating problems with how transitions or closures were handled.

Notable patterns and implications: The dominant themes are inconsistent staff behavior, communication breakdowns, and financial opacity. Positive comments about staff attributes and the facility's appearance indicate potential strengths that are undermined by operational failings. The combination of staffing problems and unreliable management can explain many of the negative reports: inconsistent staffing levels and poor managerial follow-through often produce the kinds of unresponsiveness, refusal to answer questions, and billing/charging mistakes described. The allegation of staged calls is isolated but noteworthy because it raises concerns about authenticity of outreach or marketing practices. The mention of a poor closing of Woodlawn Lodge suggests that organizational challenges may extend beyond isolated incidents and could affect transitions for residents.

In summary, prospective residents and families should weigh the facility's apparent physical appeal and reports of compassionate, dedicated caregivers against multiple reports of poor communication, staffing instability, and troubling financial/billing issues. The reviews point to a need for clearer, more reliable management practices and transparent billing, and they illustrate significant variability in individual experiences: some encounters are very positive, while others are characterized by hostility, unresponsiveness, and operational problems.

For seniors recovering from surgery or illness, there's a short stay rehab program called LB Short Stay, and folks can get help with things like speech, strength, and occupational tasks so they can get back on their feet. Home care is available for anybody needing support at home, and that service comes with trained aides who give companionship and keep up with non-medical needs. Security measures help keep the place safe, and the staff uses an interdisciplinary team approach, so everyone's on the same page.

The LB Homes organization has deep roots in Christian values, aiming to make everyone feel respected, loved, and supported, which guides their dedication to caring for elders. This community serves people aged 55 and older and does its best to make things easier, safer, and more comfortable, whether the care needed is temporary or long-term, on campus or in the comfort of your own home. Amenities and services can be added as needed, so people can age in place with as much help or independence as they'd like, and there's been a strong commitment to seniors here for over a hundred years, inspired by faith and a desire to serve.
