    Caring staff, excellent activities, concerns

I had a very positive experience overall - the staff are caring, respectful and dedicated, and the care, meals, cleanliness and activities (excellent activities director, daily programs, garden/outings and congregate dining) are top-notch. My concerns: management seemed poor and I heard troubling reports of illegal activity, there's a falls risk from missing grab rails, HIPAA limits some information, residents need help with call lights, and vacuuming could be improved.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews for Hawley Senior Living is strongly positive across direct care, dining, activities, and many aspects of staff performance, but tempered by several notable safety and management concerns. Multiple reviewers highlight a pattern of compassionate, respectful, and dedicated caregiving. Phrases such as "dedicated staff," "caring staff," and "respectful staff" occur repeatedly, and the facility's clinical care is described as "excellent." These consistent remarks indicate that residents and families generally feel well supported with day-to-day health needs and personal attention.

Facilities and housekeeping also receive positive mention: several reviews call out "excellent cleanliness," and the availability of pleasant outdoor spaces such as a garden and organized outdoor outings is appreciated. Dining is another clear strength — "excellent meals" and the presence of congregate dining are cited as contributing to a good quality of life and social opportunities. The activities program is emphasized as a major positive: an "excellent activities director," regular daily activities, and "fun activities for residents" suggest a robust calendar that engages residents and supports socialization and mental stimulation.

Despite these strengths, there are recurring operational and safety-related concerns that warrant attention. A specific physical safety issue is described: falls safety concerns stemming from a lack of handrails. This is a tangible hazard for an older population and stands out as a practical shortcoming that could affect residents' well-being. Several reviews also note dependence on call-light assistance, indicating that some residents require help or frequent staff response; while call lights are a standard mechanism, the mention implies potential delays or reliance that families may want to investigate further.

There are mixed signals about housekeeping detail: although overall cleanliness is praised, at least one reviewer pointed out that vacuuming "could be better." This suggests that while general cleaning standards are high, some routine maintenance tasks may be inconsistent. Another operational theme is HIPAA-related restrictions: cleaners or staff may be constrained in what they can share with family members, and reviewers cite HIPAA as a limiting factor in communication. This points to an area where clearer communication about privacy rules and how they affect information flow might reduce family frustration.

The most serious and contrasting feedback concerns management. While many comments are extremely positive about frontline staff, a subset of reviewers describe "horrible management" and even allege "illegal activities." These are serious accusations that stand in stark contrast to the praise for caregiving and programming. The reviews do not provide detailed, corroborated accounts of such illegal actions, but the presence of these claims indicates a potential risk area around leadership, policy enforcement, or regulatory compliance. Given the otherwise favorable comments on staff performance, these management-related complaints suggest either isolated incidents or tensions between administrative practices and caregiving staff/families.

In summary, Hawley Senior Living is portrayed as a community with strong hands-on care, engaging activities, pleasant outdoor amenities, and good dining — all reinforced by multiple reviewers describing an overall positive experience. Key areas to address based on the reviews are physical safety (handrails and fall prevention), consistent housekeeping detail (vacuuming), clarity around HIPAA and communication with families, and urgent follow-up on management-related complaints. Prospective residents and families should weigh the consistently praised day-to-day caregiving and programming against the raised safety and administrative concerns, and consider asking the facility specific questions or requesting documentation about fall-prevention measures, complaint resolution procedures, and how management responds to allegations or regulatory issues.

    About Hawley Senior Living

Hawley Senior Living is a single-level senior living community that provides both assisted living and memory care. The community sits in a small town and has a welcoming, home-like feel. There are 45 available units, including studio, one-bedroom, semi-private, and two-bedroom apartments, some of which come furnished and are comfortable for older adults. Residents need to be at least 55 years old. The building is handicapped accessible and provides TTY/TDD phone services. Staff is awake and present 24 hours a day, trained to help with daily needs such as bathing, dressing, and managing medicines, and the team also can assist people who need help moving from a bed to a wheelchair.

The community supports seniors who need help with diabetic care, such as monitoring blood sugar, but doesn't give insulin shots. Residents who need help with incontinence need to handle private care themselves. Non-ambulatory seniors can get standby help for transferring. Services also include meals-three homecooked ones every day-housekeeping, laundry, and adult day care. There's respite and hospice care as well, and complimentary transportation is available for doctor visits or outings. Pets, like cats and dogs, are welcome.

The indoor common areas make it easy for residents to socialize and have activities together, and daily social and movement activities help everyone connect and stay involved, thanks to the small town atmosphere that gives things a family feeling. The facility offers devotional services offsite for those who want them. Meals are nutritious and prepared from good ingredients, and the goal is to help residents live actively and with a strong sense of community. There's no high-level nursing care, but Hawley Senior Living focuses on everyday support for seniors with different needs as they age. Home care is available, and the community wants residents to feel engaged and purposeful in their daily life.
