    Chef-prepared meals and compassionate staff

I moved my mom here and we've been very happy. The chef-prepared meals and beautiful dining room feel upscale and are consistently delicious. Apartments and common areas are spacious, immaculate, and full of amenities; staff from nursing and aides to dining and maintenance are attentive, compassionate, and responsive. Director Terri Pratt is thoughtful and hands-on - this caring, safe community gives us real peace of mind and I recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Oak Park Senior Living is described by many families as a well-appointed, generally well-run community with a strong emphasis on dignified, person-centered care. Reviewers commonly highlight compassionate caregiving, an experienced nursing and aide team, and a home-like atmosphere. The community offers a range of care levels (independent living through memory care) and spacious, well-kept apartments, and it emphasizes safety and infection-control practices, which several families noted during the COVID period.

Care and staff: Praise is concentrated on the quality and demeanor of direct-care staff. Numerous families describe nurses and aides as attentive, experienced, and caring, and they credit staff with providing relief to geographically distant relatives. At the same time, there are repeated operational concerns: staffing shortages and retention instability are cited, and some families observed inconsistent conduct and responsiveness from particular staff members. More serious operational patterns reported include gaps in medication-management controls and inconsistencies in handling residents' personal items and clothing. Those issues are described at a facility-process level rather than as isolated compliments, indicating areas to raise during any tour or intake discussion.

Dining and activities: Dining receives strong, frequent praise. The community is frequently described as providing chef-prepared, well-presented meals in an upscale dining room, with multiple entrée choices and a restaurant-style service. Some reviewers call meals excellent, while others describe them as good—indicating that the dining experience is a core strength but may vary at times. The activity program is generally seen as engaging and varied, contributing to a positive social environment, though a few families expressed a desire for more or different activities for particular residents.

Facilities and ambiance: The physical environment is consistently noted as clean, immaculate, and tastefully decorated, with pleasant common areas and framed art in hallways. Apartments are described as spacious and well-maintained. However, the facility's size and layout can feel large or overwhelming for some residents, and housekeeping consistency varies between units. Overall, the campus projects a safe, tidy, and comfortable setting that many families equate with peace of mind.

Management and leadership: Director-level leadership—particularly Director Terri Pratt—is a recurring positive in the reviews. Many families cite her as visible, helpful, knowledgeable, and family-oriented in approach. That said, there is a contrasting thread of critiques about management responsiveness and staff support; some reviewers characterize managerial interactions as indifferent or insufficiently supportive of frontline employees. There are also mentions of perceived leadership pressure by staff or families. These mixed impressions suggest that experiences with administration can vary depending on timing and personnel.

Cost and decision factors: Cost is a noted consideration. Several families describe the community as premium-priced, though at least one family viewed rates as competitive locally. For prospective residents and families, relevant due-diligence items emerging from reviews include asking about current staffing levels and retention, medication administration and reconciliation protocols, laundry and personal-item procedures, housekeeping schedules, privacy policies (including room monitoring practices), and the specifics of programming and move-in support.

Bottom line: Oak Park Senior Living presents many hallmarks of a high-quality senior community—compassionate direct care, strong dining, attractive facilities, and visible leadership—but also shows operational stress points common in the sector, especially around staffing consistency, medication and personal-item controls, and variable management responsiveness. Prospective residents and families will benefit from targeted questions on these operational areas during tours and from checking recent staffing and quality metrics before making a decision.

    About Oak Park Senior Living

Oak Park Senior Living sits at 13936 Lower 59th St N in Oak Park Heights, MN, offering a quiet place for seniors who want independent living, assisted living, or need memory care services, and it's licensed for skilled care and memory support, which means there are folks there who know how to help with Alzheimer's or other memory concerns, and memory care residents can get doctor visits as needed, while the staff includes a licensed RN to help figure out personal care plans for each person, and there's always 24-hour supervision along with a call system in case anyone needs help quickly, plus medication management, support with daily needs like dressing or bathing, and even waivers for hospice and dementia care are available if those become necessary. The building has 57 private units, some with balconies and renovated interiors, including full kitchens with refrigerators, stoves, dishwashers, and microwaves, as well as personal laundry, individually controlled air and heat, and cable readiness, and folks can bring pets with some restrictions. Residents find on-site parking, unoccupied spaces in a nearby outdoor lot, and sidewalks around the building for walking, along with a secured courtyard for memory care, and security features like controlled access, fire alarms, and sprinklers help keep everyone safe. Apartment upkeep, water, sewer, and trash service are all included, and month-to-month leases offer flexibility. The community has a fitness center, library, movie theater, beauty salon, and barber shop, with regular activities like movie nights, planned programs, exercise, health and wellness checks, and daily afternoon coffee and cookies, and there are often resident-led events to encourage friendships, plus transportation is arranged to nearby medical facilities, shopping, worship, and restaurants, which are all close by in the 55082 zip code. People can pick à la carte care options or just enjoy the independent lifestyle, and the trained staff make sure to check on everyone's health and safety, keeping a close-knit feel among neighbors and employees. Meals come freshly made each day by the kitchen staff, and there's a guest suite for visitors. Oak Park Senior Living is managed by Southview Senior Communities, and while it's not listed for sale or rent on other sites, it remains a place where folks find support, comfort, and company-whether someone still lives mostly on their own or needs more specialized and daily care for memory issues or other health concerns.
