    Good facility with some issues

I moved my mom here and overall we're glad we did. The facility and common areas are very clean, apartments are nice, staff are mostly friendly/helpful, and there are many activities, fitness/PT and on-site medical services. Downsides: high staff turnover, inconsistent nursing and housekeeping, slow call responses, spotty communication, and uneven food quality (sometimes over-salted or served in Styrofoam). It's on the pricier side but includes amenities-I'd recommend it with reservations.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across these reviews is mixed but centers on a consistent pattern: Broadwell Senior Living is a new, attractive community with many desirable physical amenities and social opportunities, yet it struggles with staffing, caregiving consistency, dining quality, and communication. The building itself, apartments, and common spaces receive repeated praise. Reviewers frequently note brand-new construction, bright open spaces, nice finishes, large bathrooms, balconies, in-unit laundry, and thoughtful amenity spaces (salon, fitness, PT, movie room, party rooms). Move-in assistance and maintenance support are often highlighted as strengths. The social environment — weekly happy hours, themed events, outings, and a variety of activities — is a clear positive for many residents who say they have become more active and social since moving in.

Care quality is one of the most polarizing themes. Several families report excellent, compassionate nursing and aide care (especially in memory care), with residents thriving under the staff’s attention. At the same time, many other reviews describe a decline in care over time, staff shortages, frequent turnover, and inconsistent assistance with basic needs (dressing, bathing, escorting). Serious safety concerns appear in multiple reports: slow emergency pull-cord or call-button responses (one reviewer reported a 29-minute response), ignored pull cords, and occasional medication or documentation errors. These issues, combined with reports of aides being inattentive or even demeaning in a few cases, create a pattern where caregiver reliability depends heavily on which staff members are on duty and how fully staffed the building is that day.

Dining and culinary service is another area with clear split experiences. Some residents love the food and several reviewers cite recent improvements after a new culinary director was hired. However, many reviewers complain of cold food, over-salted or starch-heavy meals, Styrofoam takeout-style serving, late or missing meal deliveries, reheating errors, and minimal quality control (frozen desserts, overcooked meats, occasional good fish). Multiple accounts tie culinary issues to staff shortages and turnover in the kitchen; some families reported an initial period of good meals that deteriorated when kitchen leadership left.

Operational and administrative themes run through the reviews. Communication and responsiveness from management and front-desk staff are inconsistent: some reviewers praise helpful, compassionate managers and a friendly intake experience, while others describe poor follow-up, unstaffed front desks, billing opacity, unexplained charges, and frustrating transfers in leadership (multiple director changes, management company transition). Several reviewers framed these problems as "startup" or growing pains — a new community finding its footing — but others experienced repeated problems they considered systemic, including reports of incorrect medication being given and false documentation.

Housekeeping, maintenance, and amenity readiness show variability. Common areas are frequently described as clean and well-kept, but room cleaning and resident-area housekeeping were reported as inconsistent or minimal in several cases (some aides assumed cleaning responsibilities). Patio/fob access problems, occasional slow maintenance response, and amenities or activity staff not yet fully staffed or in place (e.g., no activities director for a period) were noted as inconveniences tied to the community’s newness.

Patterns and recommendations: reviewers often contrast excellent aspects (facility, activities, some standout staff, and social life) with persistent operational challenges. Many reviewers who initially chose Broadwell felt their move was beneficial, while a subset moved loved ones out within months due to care concerns. The most frequently cited problems — staff turnover/short staffing, inconsistent nursing/aide care, slow emergency response, and dining quality — are concrete, recurring themes that prospective residents and families should investigate directly during tours. Suggested due diligence would include asking about current staffing ratios, turnover rates, response-time protocols for call buttons and medical emergencies, medication administration and record-keeping procedures, culinary leadership stability, housekeeping schedules, billing practices, and recent changes in management. For families prioritizing a modern, social environment with strong memory care programming and robust amenities, Broadwell shows clear promise. For those whose top priority is consistent medical/nursing oversight and flawless operational reliability, the mixed reports indicate a need for careful, up-to-date verification before committing.

    About Broadwell Senior Living

Broadwell Senior Living sits at 3025 Harbor Lane North in Plymouth, Minnesota, close to Medicine Lake and several parks, and right across from Kearney Regional Hospital, so residents get peace and some privacy without feeling cut off from what they need. The building has three stories with 130 apartments ranging from studios to one- and two-bedroom layouts, and some have dens, balconies, or large windows that make things feel bright and open, letting folks bring their pets and enjoy a bit of sun or sit outside in the outdoor gazebo near the fire pit or practice on the putting green if they're up to it. Residents can choose from independent living, assisted living, memory care, or short-term respite care, with services and help levels that can change if health or needs do over time, so people can age in one place without moving around. Each apartment's got a full kitchen, dishwasher, full-size washer and dryer, and energy-saving appliances, and the whole building's wheelchair-friendly with underground and covered parking, plus guest parking for when family or friends visit, which they do, because staff and residents have a friendly way about them and treat each other somewhat like family.

The community walks the talk with wellness and daily living help, so there's nurses on staff, help with medication, bathing, dressing, regular housekeeping, and laundry. There's also therapy on-site or through partners if someone needs physical, occupational, or speech therapy, a separate space for those, and partnerships with hospice care for those who need it. Memory care stays secure with special units and a private courtyard, and those with advanced needs get trained staff on hand around the clock. Folks staying short-term for respite or recovery from hospital stays still join in group outings or therapy, with transportation if needed.

When it comes to meals, there's restaurant-style dining with chef-made options, special menus, a bistro for cappuccinos, a club room, a public dining room, and a private one for family get-togethers, and the food changes with the seasons, trying to keep things fresh. There are plenty of ways to keep busy, too-activities go on every day, from fitness classes, yoga, meditation, and art, to lifelong learning courses, music, and games. Trails and walking paths run throughout the property and nearby, the fitness center's well-stocked, and a beauty salon and barber shop with a pedicure station gives folks a place to get cleaned up. The onsite café, spa, and multiple activity rooms mean there's always something to do no matter the weather.

Residents don't have to worry over chores with help for daily needs, regular upkeep, and utilities included in one all-in price. Monthly support groups for families, help with move-in, and a welcoming, calming atmosphere keep stress a little lower. Residents, staff, and families say the community feels warm, safe, and pet-friendly, with people looking out for one another, and there's always activities to join or company to be had. Broadwell Senior Living opened in 2021 with up-to-date features and modern design, and it's managed by The Waters Senior Living, offering a calm, respectful environment for seniors who want both independence and the right support if things change.
