    Amenity rich, welcoming but understaffed

I love the warm, home-like feel here - bright, clean apartments, three restaurants (plus a pub and movie theater), tons of activities, fitness/physio and on-site higher care options so residents can age in place. Staff are mostly friendly, caring and attentive, and the community is social and welcoming. That said, I've seen signs of understaffing and occasional unresponsiveness or impatience; there have also been security/theft concerns and reports of delayed or missed care. Overall it's a fantastic, amenity-rich place for many seniors, but I'd recommend confirming staffing, safety and maintenance practices before deciding.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is strongly positive but includes a number of serious negative reports that merit attention. Many reviewers praise Episcopal Homes of Minnesota for its warm, home-like atmosphere, cleanliness, bright and odor-free spaces, and a quiet, calming vibe. The campus amenities receive frequent positive mentions: a movie theater, a pub with popular items (wings, mudslide), a Bistro/coffee area with fresh pastries, multiple dining venues (three restaurants noted), a salon, and well-appointed guest rooms that visitors describe as nicer than many hotel rooms. The physical environment and social spaces are repeatedly described as welcoming and family-friendly, which supports social interaction and a strong sense of community.

Care quality and staffing receive mixed but detailed commentary. Numerous reviewers call the staff outstanding, compassionate, loving, and highly professional — citing excellent daily care and respectful treatment of residents. The facility offers a full continuum of care (independent living through assisted living and a transitional care/TCU unit), and many note that being able to move to a higher level of care within the same complex is a major strength. Several reviewers also reported positive experiences with rehabilitation services (PT and OT), although those services are mentioned as being contracted out. A few comments indicate that transitional care under Medicare felt "bare-bones," suggesting variability in what residents experienced in short-term rehab/TCU stays.

At the same time, a nontrivial subset of reviews raise serious concerns about consistency in staffing and safety. Reported problems include understaffing, slow or unresponsive staff, medication delays, and at least one account of a resident left bleeding for hours — a report that describes unsafe and unacceptable care. Other negative reports include rude or sneaky behavior by some nurses and an instance where heat was not repaired over a weekend. There are also allegations of theft and security lapses, and remarks that staff have been asked to intervene in ways that reviewers felt were "not in their job description." These adverse reports are less frequent than the positive ones but are significant because they concern resident safety and basic care responsiveness.

Management and operations appear to be another mixed area. Some reviewers commend administration and the overall issue-responsive culture; others say leadership is slow to implement needed improvements or that administration is "awaiting discussion" rather than taking immediate action. The presence of a long waiting list suggests demand and a strong reputation overall, but it may also create pressure on intake, staffing, and resources. Contracting out certain services (like PT/OT) may produce variability in the resident experience, and at least one reviewer characterized the TCU/Medicare coverage as minimal — an important consideration for prospective residents relying on short-term rehab services.

In summary, Episcopal Homes of Minnesota is reported by many reviewers to be an attractive, well-equipped, and community-focused senior living option with notable strengths in facilities, social programming, dining variety, and an integrated care continuum. The most common praise centers on caring staff, cleanliness, abundant activities, family-friendly atmosphere, and the convenience of multiple on-site services. However, prospective residents and families should weigh these positives against the documented concerns: inconsistent staffing levels, occasional rude or unresponsive behavior, at least one reported safety incident, security/theft worries, and variability in transitional care and contracted rehab services. Those considering the community would be well-advised to tour the campus, meet care staff and managers, ask about staffing ratios and incident reporting, inquire specifically about how TCU and contracted rehab services are handled, and obtain references from current residents or families to understand how consistently the facility delivers on its strengths.

    About Episcopal Homes of Minnesota

Episcopal Homes of Minnesota has a long-standing reputation for offering a wide range of senior living services right in Saint Paul, with a 4.4 rating from 79 reviews, and it's tied to the Episcopal Homes network, which includes places and programs like The Terrace at Iris Park, Cornelia House, The Gardens, and the Episcopal Church Home, so you're looking at a place that really covers retirement communities, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and long-term care all in one campus. Residents find tailored options, whether they need independent living, senior apartments, affordable housing, or more specialized help-like memory care at Katy's Cottage or round-the-clock support in The Gardens' Green House model, plus there's skilled nursing and a Transitional Care Center for rehabilitation or recovery after illness or surgery. The campus is right near the Fairview Avenue Light Rail and connects to revitalized Iris Park, and the Village Greenway runs through with secure, peaceful landscaped walking paths, water features, and benches that make for a pleasant outdoor space to sit and visit or just enjoy fresh air, and there's underground parking if you need it.

Apartments come in different floor plans-studios, one-bedrooms, and two-bedrooms-and all of them have weekly housekeeping and basic laundry service, with utilities bundled in except for the phone, so things are streamlined for seniors who just want to live with less fuss, and there's a meal plan that uses a Meal Credit System so people can pick where and when to eat, whether it's The Bistro, The Cafe, Parkside Dining Room, Terrace Grille, or Watter's Pub, since meals and social time have a big role here. Community life keeps people busy, since there's a Resident Life program, on-site chaplains and worship services in chapels, formal Family Living and Dining Rooms for gatherings, activity rooms, a library and a media center, and a movie theater where movies play regularly, and the same goes for a fitness center, warm water therapy pool, plus a salon and spa.

The campus has a Village Plaza that brings together a café, a gifts and sundries shop, a Pub Room, and another small theater, which adds to everyday convenience, and shopping and cafe spaces mean you don't have to leave the grounds unless you want to. There's also a bus for off-campus shopping or outings, and the grounds include rooftop gardens, greenways, and spaces for creative ventures. The staff keeps things running smoothly through professional on-site management and service coordination, and they're present for medication help, personal care, skilled nursing, and memory care services 24/7 if needed, which gives some peace of mind to families. The Resident Life and wellbeing programs focus on activities, spiritual life, and creative projects, while monthly concerts and community events break up the routine and give people something to look forward to, while councils and community input help keep everyone connected. Affordable senior living is available at Cornelia House, Carty Heights, Kings Crossing, Midway Pointe, and Seabury, meeting HUD requirements and including amenities like community rooms, lounges, libraries, and computer access, so different budgets are addressed, and enrichment opportunities come with support from the Episcopal Homes Foundation.

The campus culture tries to involve residents, families, and staff to foster a true sense of community, with Kinder Village Child Care on site bringing in some intergenerational activity, and the team focuses on person-centered care, always making dignity and comfort a main goal. Hospice care is an option through the Pillars Hospice Home in Oakdale and the Beyond Hospice program, both offering end-of-life support in calming settings either at home or in a dedicated hospice house. Policies promise fairness and non-discrimination on many grounds, and visitors are welcome for tours to get a feel for what daily life is like, so folks can see the spaces, meet staff, and talk to neighbors to decide if one of these communities fits.
