    Spacious private home; caring staff

I live here and love the spacious private bedroom and bathroom, gas fireplace, wooded backyard and convenient location near shopping - it truly feels like home. The staff, management and owners are caring, professional and go above and beyond (meals are excellent), though I've experienced one rare rude/unhelpful interaction.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the compiled reviews for Maplewood Assisted Living is strongly positive, with frequent emphasis on a home-like, family atmosphere and staff who are passionate about care. Multiple reviewers describe a warm, community-oriented environment where management and owners are engaged and protective, contributing to a sense that the facility is run with personal attention rather than as a generic corporate setting. The repeated descriptions of the place as "family-like," "unique," and "feels like home" indicate that many residents and families value the personal, intimate quality of the community.

Staff and care quality emerge as a central strength. Many reviews call out staff as friendly, caring, attentive, and willing to go "above and beyond." One staff member is singled out by name (Kong) for exceptional service, illustrating that individual caregivers leave a strong positive impression. Reviewers note responsiveness to immediate needs (for example, timely assistance when someone was hungry), and overall describe the staff as professional and helpful. That said, there are isolated but notable reports of negative interactions: a few mentions of rude or unprofessional behavior, a caller being hung up on, and dismissive attitudes. There is also a mention of "past concerns about care quality," which suggests that while current impressions are largely favorable, there may have been issues previously or sporadic lapses that have been remembered by reviewers.

Facility and amenities receive consistent praise. Reviewers frequently highlight spacious private rooms with private bathrooms and the added comfort of gas fireplaces in some units. Cleanliness is repeatedly noted, and the outdoor areas—described as a nice, wooded backyard—are appreciated. The physical layout and condition of rooms (private bedrooms and baths, spaciousness, and clean common areas) are contrasted positively against more institutional or dorm-like alternatives, with one reviewer explicitly calling it "better than dorm." The convenient location near shopping, a grocery store, and a strip mall is another practical advantage repeatedly mentioned.

Dining and service responsiveness are also positive themes. Meals and dining are described as "amazing," and the kitchen/staff are credited with meeting residents' needs promptly. The responsiveness of staff to routine needs (food, assistance) reinforces the overall impression of attentive care. Beyond basic service, several reviewers emphasize staff willingness to be helpful and to provide above-and-beyond support, which contributes to the strong approval of daily living experience.

Management and ownership get favorable mentions: owners are characterized as dedicated and protective, and management is portrayed as accessible and close to residents. This hands-on leadership appears to underpin the facility's family feel and the personalized care culture. However, the presence of both very positive staff reports and a few reports of rudeness suggests some variability in staff behavior or training; it may reflect isolated incidents rather than systemic problems, but it is a pattern worth noting.

Notable patterns and recommendations: the dominant themes are positive—caring staff, clean and comfortable rooms, good dining, pleasant outdoor space, and convenient location. The main concerns are infrequent but potentially impactful: unprofessional phone interactions, dismissive attitudes, and mentions of past care-quality concerns. For prospective residents or families, these reviews suggest Maplewood is a warm, community-oriented assisted living option with strong positives in staffing, facility quality, and dining; however, it would be prudent to ask management about staff training, recent complaint resolution, and communication protocols to ensure the isolated negative experiences have been addressed. Overall, the reviews convey a trustworthy, well-kept, and compassionate environment with a few service issues that appear to be exceptions rather than the rule.

This community helps older adults who need extra help with daily life, like bathing, dressing, moving around, and managing medicine, and it also has care for Parkinson's disease, dementia, and Alzheimer's. The staff includes licensed nurses and personal care assistants who provide around-the-clock supervision, help with falls prevention, surgery recovery, wound care, and even support for insulin monitoring if needed, and they can also help move people from their beds to wheelchairs and assist with two-person transfers if someone's mobility needs get more complex. Residents can choose from studio apartments, one-bedroom units, or shared living spaces, where rooms come with housekeeping, laundry service, kitchens or kitchenettes, phone, cable TV, and safety features like sprinkler systems and emergency alert systems.

People living here get chef-prepared meals in the community dining room with all-day dining and snacks, and there are options for special diets, including allergy-sensitive, diabetes-friendly, low-salt, or other clinical diets, and if someone's hungry outside mealtimes, food is always available. Maplewood lets residents keep small pets, which adds a little extra comfort for those who want animal companionship, and activities fill up the days, like assisted wellness programs, music and animal therapy, movie nights, tabletop games, social nights, arts and crafts, outdoor walks on trails, and offsite trips, plus on-site devotional gatherings for those interested. There's a games room, theater room, fitness and wellness area, garden spaces, a salon/barber shop, and guest parking alongside Wi-Fi throughout the facility, and there's also transportation help for medical appointments, errands, and spiritual needs.

Maplewood deals with both independent seniors and those who need more daily support and provides Board and Care Home services along with assisted living and memory care, and they have individualized plans for each person, including those in hospice or respite care. Residents have access to podiatry care, occupational therapy, and ongoing health checks, with extra help managing medicines as needed, and the staff includes awake personnel at all hours for emergencies. The community's designed to be accessible for wheelchairs and those who have trouble walking, with non-ambulatory care options, and care staff can support bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, and general hygiene, plus the option for a mobile stylist for haircuts or grooming. Maplewood works with Medicaid, Medicare, long-term care insurance, private pay, and Veterans' benefits, and the starting monthly rate for assisted living is about $3,000, though final costs depend on care needs, chosen room, and extra services.

There are regular community events, book rooms, a hot tub or steam area, and support for keeping up personal wellness-plus, every resident can join in on recreational programs and group activities to stay active and connected. Concerns about memory are handled with special programs and trained staff, with support for individualized memory care plans for people with Alzheimer's or dementia. Families can set up assessments right through the Maplewood website, and everything's built with the mission of making life safer, more comfortable, and less stressful for both seniors and their loved ones. Maplewood Assisted Living is certified by Missouri's Department of Social Services and aims to offer a respectful, empathetic, and practical place for seniors, whether they need only a little help or have more complex health needs.
