    Infested apartment, toxic management, avoid

I lived here and it was miserable. My apartment was infested with bed bugs and roaches, furniture and carpets ruined, and a constant foul smell. Management sprayed harsh chemicals that made tenants sick, provided no ventilation, misrepresented the place as bug-free, withheld my deposit, and offered no effective solution - not a place for a loved one.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The reviews for St. John Neumann Apartments are overwhelmingly negative, dominated by repeated and serious pest-related complaints. Multiple summaries recount bed bug and roach infestations, persistent unpleasant smells, and ruined furniture and carpeting. These problems are described as severe enough to render apartments uninhabitable for some residents. Only a single positive/"trusting" stay is mentioned among the summaries, making that a clear outlier against a pattern of major cleanliness and safety concerns.

Care quality and living conditions: The most prominent theme is pest infestation (bed bugs and roaches) and its direct impact on livability. Reviewers report bed bugs repeatedly, furniture ruined by bugs, and ongoing infestations rather than an isolated incident. Dirty carpets and persistent smells compound impressions of poor cleanliness and insufficient sanitation. Several reviewers describe apartments as "unlivable" because of these issues. The presence of pests and associated odors suggests sanitation and preventive maintenance are inadequate or ineffective at controlling infestations over time.

Staff and management: Management performance is criticized strongly in the summaries. Reported issues include ineffective responses to infestations, continued decline in property condition, and an allegation that the complex misrepresented apartments as "bug-free" when they were not. One review specifically claims a deposit was withheld, indicating potential disputes over move-out conditions or repair responsibilities. There are also allegations that management's pest-control approach — spraying chemicals on or around tenant furniture — has harmed residents, and that spraying occurred without adequate ventilation. These points together paint a picture of management practices that reviewers perceive as both ineffective at solving infestations and sometimes harmful to tenants' health.

Facilities and maintenance: Reviews suggest facility maintenance problems beyond pests. Dirty carpets and pervasive smells are noted, implying either delayed cleaning, inadequate housekeeping standards, or failure to remediate the root causes of odors and infestations. Reports that pest-control chemicals were applied directly to furniture and that there was no proper ventilation raise additional maintenance and safety concerns. Furniture damage and ruined personal property from bugs and treatments are explicitly mentioned, indicating material losses for residents.

Dining, activities, and services: The provided summaries do not include information about dining, activities, recreational programming, or other services typically offered in senior living environments. There are no reviewer comments to assess meal quality, social programming, or resident engagement. The lack of commentary on those areas means no positive or negative conclusions about dining and activities can be drawn from these summaries.

Notable patterns and concerns: The most consistent pattern is recurring pest problems and a perceived failure of management to address them effectively. Reports of chemical spraying that may have harmed tenants and of withheld deposits are serious red flags for prospective residents and families. The presence of at least one positive, "trusting" experience suggests experiences may vary by unit or timeframe, but the dominant theme is persistent infestation and declining conditions.

Implications for prospective residents and families: Based on the review content, the property raises significant concerns about hygiene, safety, and management responsiveness. Prospective residents should seek detailed, up-to-date information about pest-control history and current remediation efforts, request documentation of recent inspections and treatments, inspect apartments personally (including carpets, furniture, and for signs of infestation), and clarify policies on deposits and damage remediation. Families should be cautious about trusting advertising claims of "bug-free" units without verification. If chemical treatments are used, ask for specifics about products, application methods, ventilation plans, and protections for residents with sensitivities.

Summary judgment: The reviews collectively indicate substantial and recurring problems with pests and property upkeep at St. John Neumann Apartments, accompanied by serious concerns about management response and potential health impacts from chemical treatments. While one reviewer reported a positive stay, that is outweighed by multiple accounts describing infestations, ruined belongings, poor sanitation, withheld deposits, and ineffective management. These are significant issues for anyone considering residence and warrant careful investigation and verification before committing.
