    Friendly staff, great food, concerns

I'm very pleased with Highland Crest - the staff are friendly, attentive and caring, nurses and kitchen team are excellent, the food is great, rooms and common areas are clean and welcoming, and activities helped my grandmother settle in and improve. My only concerns were occasional understaffing, some management/privacy issues and one late hospital transfer, but overall it's working out well and I highly recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment from the reviews is strongly positive with recurring praise for the quality of day-to-day care, the warmth and professionalism of staff, the dining experience, and the facility’s cleanliness and décor. Many reviewers highlight that Highland Crest provides a welcoming, attractive environment with comfortable rooms, a nicely decorated lobby (including holiday decorations), and clear, uncluttered common areas. The dining experience receives repeated positive comment: meals are enjoyed, kitchen staff are described as wonderful, and attention to presentation (round tables, linen napkins) is noted and appreciated.

Care quality and staffing are prominent themes. Multiple reviewers praise nursing care as attentive and thorough; specific mentions include nurses being "on top of everything," good shower care, and generally high-quality personal care. Staff are repeatedly described as caring, compassionate, and responsive, with many comments about staff patience, kindness, and professionalism. Reviewers also credit the facility with helping residents adjust and improving well-being, and some explicitly say the staff have residents’ best interests at heart. The director is singled out in at least one review as lovely and efficient, reinforcing impressions of leadership positively affecting resident experience.

Activities and social environment are also strong positives. Reviewers list a variety of activities such as card games, cookie decorating, bible studies, and daily physical exercises, and describe a social environment that helps residents engage and feel at home. Several comments note that residents enjoy each other’s company and that the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. These social and activity programs, combined with good meals and a caring staff, contribute to multiple recommendations and an overall impression that the community is a "wonderful place to be" after leaving home.

However, there are consistent concerns that temper the overwhelmingly positive feedback. Understaffing and perceived poor or inconsistent management are the primary negatives cited. These staffing shortfalls are tied to broader operational issues noted by reviewers, including a reported late hospital transfer and incidents involving disrespect for rooms or personal possessions and privacy concerns. While many reviews praise individual staff members and the care they provide, the management and staffing concerns suggest variability in the resident experience and potential risks to continuity of care and resident dignity. One reviewer framed the facility’s early experience as particularly good, implying some change over time; several comments describe inconsistent experiences, which points to unevenness in performance across shifts or over time.

In summary, the reviews paint Highland Crest as a generally well-regarded senior living community where compassionate staff, good meals, engaging activities, and a clean, attractive environment create a positive resident experience. The strongest, most frequent positives are the attentiveness and warmth of staff, the quality of daily care, and the community atmosphere. The primary areas for improvement are operational: address understaffing, strengthen management consistency, improve transfer protocols, and ensure respect for residents’ privacy and possessions. These concerns are notable but appear alongside many specific and enthusiastic endorsements of the staff and services; resolving the operational issues would likely solidify the uniformly positive experience reflected in many reviews.
