    Friendly community, helpful manager, issues

I live here and overall it's a great place to live - friendly community, several activities to meet neighbors, and a helpful manager; I'd recommend it for independent senior living. Downsides: move-in problems, promises not always kept, poor maintenance, no visitors currently, and a few jerks among residents.

    About Westwood Manor

Westwood Manor sits on 25 acres with native woodlands and Little Shoal Creek right nearby, and when you walk around you'll spot park-like grounds, walking trails, and a nature trail that seem to catch sunlight from skylights and glass French doors in the homes, which most have peaked roofs and almost all have lap siding. The homes come in many floor plans, and some are even multisection, with features like 11-foot vaulted ceilings, island kitchens, solid oak cabinets, master bedroom suites with walk-in closets, luxury baths with 6-foot soaking tubs, open layouts, crown moldings, private yards, and private parking, so folks have room to spread out, and if needed, they can get a handicap-accessible home. There are 80 units here, and vacant sites ready for new neighbors, so there's usually a spot for newcomers who fit the age 50-plus requirement, and with prices for manufactured homes ranging from $30,000 to $90,000, it stays in the affordable range for many retirees. The community keeps things friendly but safe, with police patrols and 24-hour emergency services, and if something goes wrong, on-site management and maintenance staff, led by community manager Criss Thomas, are available, whether it's fixing something, helping with small tasks, or just keeping the streets paved and the grounds tidy in all seasons-they handle lawn maintenance and snow removal, too.

Inside, the clubhouse and community center host a steady calendar of activities, like exercise classes, pancake breakfasts, pot-luck dinners, bingo nights, Bible study, and even game days, volunteer clubs, yard-of-the-month awards, and social competitions, so there's often something to join, and many people get to know their neighbors through these gatherings. Seniors who live here enjoy a clean, quiet, and friendly place, and with their own library, horseshoe pits, and secured boat and RV storage, there's always something to do without leaving the property. Common areas, both indoors and outdoors, make spaces for small chats or bigger events, while the grounds have WiFi available as "Other," and the staff uses Facebook for updates and online communication with residents.

Apartments come with walk-in closets, luxury baths, and island kitchens, just like the homes, and there are high-efficiency appliances in units to make daily life easier, while the entire community is designed for independent, active seniors. Residents can bring pets up to 20 pounds, so you'll see people walking their dogs around the nature areas. Facilities are senior-friendly, with good lighting, thermal-pane windows, lots of insulation, and a solid build, which includes things like engineered roof truss and a 25-year shingle roof so the homes last a while here. Proximity to Wilshire Plaza, stores, restaurants, and North Brook and Wilshire parks means errands and outings don't take long at all, especially with a major highway just down the road. Westwood Manor is a senior-only, independent living community for those 50 and older, including those with disabilities or health conditions, and the staff can help answer questions or provide resources about senior care if needed, but mostly the aim here stays on allowing older adults to live peacefully, securely, and with plenty of ways to fill their days, whether that's a quiet morning with a coffee in a sun-soaked living room or joining a neighbor for an evening walk along Little Shoal Creek.
