    Beautiful resort; expensive, inconsistent care

I found the place beautiful, new and resort-like-spotless and odor-free with spacious studio apartments, wide doors, large walk-in closets, nice dining/activity rooms, gardens and outdoor seating. Most staff were warm, caring, and went above and beyond with activities, transports and groceries, which gave me peace of mind. Downsides: it's expensive and care can be inconsistent-medication delays, staff turnover, no mechanical lifts for transfers, and troubling management/leadership concerns and reports about resident safety. Tour carefully, ask direct questions about meds and transfers, and watch how staff interact before deciding.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews for Mattis Pointe Senior Living is mixed but leans positive on the physical environment, amenities, and certain frontline staff, while showing significant concern about management, clinical oversight, safety, and consistency of care. Many reviewers repeatedly praise the facility’s cleanliness, modern/new construction, and apartment-like, resort-style atmosphere. Specific physical features that stand out are spacious studios, wide doors, large walk-in closets, first-floor rooms with big windows, private baths, accessible layouts with few tripping hazards, attractive outdoor seating and gardens, and on-site amenities such as a beauty shop, theater room, and dining/activity spaces. Reviewers frequently note an intimate, small-community feel (around 30 units) that supports socialization and familiarity among residents.

Activities and social programming receive strong, consistent praise. Multiple activity directors, a robust calendar of engaging activities, and regular outings/field trips are highlighted as real strengths. Families report that these programs, along with common areas like a central TV room and memory-care wings, contribute to residents’ social engagement and quality of life. Several reviewers also single out individual caregivers and staff who ‘‘go above and beyond’’—one caregiver (Katlynn) is called out by name for exceptional care—and many describe staff as friendly, welcoming, and caring on initial tours and in day-to-day interactions.

However, a notable cluster of serious concerns emerges around clinical care, management, and safety. Multiple reviews allege management instability (administrators and head nurses leaving), poor leadership decisions, and instances of neglect or uncaring behavior. Specific allegations include a director of nursing accused of poor bedside manner and bringing COVID-19 into the building, as well as more general claims that leadership did not follow through after adverse events. Several families reported medication delays, lack of mechanical lifts for transfers (raising fall and injury risk), and insufficient staffing to meet residents’ needs—staff described by some as overwhelmed. Reports of wandering, resistance to care, and residents feeling scared further underline potential safety and supervision gaps. There are also serious accusations of theft or removal of residents’ room items and at least one case where a family reported decline and death after a short stay; these incidents have prompted warnings from reviewers to closely watch loved ones and question management practices.

Dining and clinical services draw mixed feedback. While dining rooms and activity spaces are described as nice, food quality is criticized in several reviews (examples cited include watery soup and occasional fast-food offerings). Clinical care is described as adequate by some—care reportedly includes bathing and medication administration and some families felt reassured—but other reviewers described medication delays, questionable work ethics, and inconsistent delivery of promised services. The absence of lifts for safe transfers was repeatedly identified as a practical shortcoming for residents with mobility needs.

Cost and transparency are recurring themes. Many reviewers describe Mattis Pointe as expensive and note concerns about the fee structure and perceived deception about what is included. While the property markets some all-inclusive or level-of-care policies (and a few reviewers appreciated ‘‘no charges for levels of care’’), others felt surprised or misled by additional costs or by services not being provided as promised. This tension about pricing versus delivered care contributes to mixed recommendations.

In summary, Mattis Pointe offers an attractive, well-maintained, and activity-rich environment with many tangible benefits: modern apartments, accessible design, engaging programming, and staff members who, in many cases, demonstrate genuine care. These strengths make it a strong match for families prioritizing cleanliness, amenities, social activities, and a boutique/small-community atmosphere. At the same time, several serious and recurring concerns—leadership turnover, allegations of neglect or misconduct, medication and transfer-safety issues, food quality complaints, and worries about transparency and costs—warrant caution. Prospective residents and families should weigh the facility’s physical and social advantages against the reported management and clinical inconsistencies. Recommended due diligence includes asking about current leadership stability and staff tenure, confirming availability of transfer equipment (lifts) and staffing ratios, reviewing medication-management protocols and incident history, sampling current dining options, checking security/camera policies, and speaking directly with current resident families to assess ongoing consistency of care before making a placement decision.

The Arbors at Mattis Pointe focuses on memory care, using programs and activities that meet the daily needs of folks with memory loss, and the community design aims for comfort and a sense of home, not just a campus. Mattis Pointe accepts Medicaid, and has a person-first approach, trying hard to notice what matters most to each resident.
