    Faith-filled caring facility, minor issues

I feel confident placing my loved one here - the facility is very clean, the staff are loving, caring and incredibly responsive, and the care has been exemplary; the faith-filled atmosphere and beautiful Catholic chapel, tailored activities, and diet adjustments make visits peaceful and comforting. My only caveats: food quality can be inconsistent and there are occasional staffing shortages and gaps in addressing hearing/vision needs. Overall, I highly recommend it - she's in good hands.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in these reviews is strongly positive, with consistent praise for the caregivers, cleanliness, and faith-based atmosphere at Mother of Good Counsel Home. Multiple reviewers explicitly call attention to the facility’s exceptionally caring and attentive staff, describing them as loving, treating residents like family, and providing high-quality, exemplary care. Several comments emphasize that residents feel safe and "in good hands," and some reviewers note that care at this home was better than at other facilities they have experienced. The facility's cleanliness is repeatedly highlighted as a clear strength.

The faith-centered environment and related amenities are a distinguishing feature in the feedback. Reviewers mention a faith-filled atmosphere and a beautiful Catholic chapel, which contributes to a welcoming and spiritually supportive environment for residents who value that dimension of care. The social environment and welcoming tone are also noted: staff are described as friendly, and activities are characterized as good and tailored to residents’ needs, suggesting attention to both social engagement and individualized programming. Several reviewers also mention that meals and diets are adjusted to meet specific needs, reinforcing a perception of personalized care.

Staff performance is the most prominent positive theme. Words like "incredible," "excellent," and "most caring staff" recur, with multiple reviewers recommending the facility and offering strong endorsements. Peaceful visits and comments that family members feel their loved ones are "in good hands" indicate a high level of trust in day-to-day care. The combination of responsive management (described as "very responsive to concerns") and hands-on caregiving appears to create a reassuring environment for many families.

Despite the largely positive picture, there are notable and repeated concerns that temper the overall assessment. Sensory care stands out: reviewers specifically point out that hearing and vision impairments are not being adequately addressed. This is a practical and significant gap, particularly for residents with sensory losses who require accommodation to maintain quality of life. Staffing shortages are also mentioned, which can affect continuity of care and program delivery; even where staff are praised, shortages could create stress points or explain isolated negative incidents.

Dining receives mixed feedback. While some reviewers praise the food and note diets are adjusted appropriately, at least one review labels the food as the "worst," indicating inconsistency in meal quality or expectations among families. Management and personnel issues appear in a few summaries: there is mention of an "unfair termination," a specific negative staff attitude incident, and a reviewer-expressed "quality of life concern." These comments are relatively isolated but important because they point to occasional lapses in administration or staff behavior that have negatively affected residents or families.

In sum, the dominant themes are strong caregiving, a clean and faith-focused environment, and individualized attention to diet and activities — factors that lead many families to confidently recommend the home. However, reviewers also flag operational weaknesses that bear watching: sensory impairment accommodations, staffing levels, and some inconsistent experiences with food and personnel decisions. For prospective families, the facility appears to offer excellent compassionate care and spiritual resources, but it would be prudent to ask about how the home addresses hearing and vision needs, current staffing levels, meal planning consistency, and any recent incidents of personnel disputes or resident quality-of-life complaints.

About Mother of Good Counsel Home

Mother of Good Counsel Home sits on Natural Bridge Rd in St. Louis, Missouri, and has supported seniors in the community since 1932, offering nursing home, assisted living, and memory care services with a strong focus on safety and comfort, and the staff, with many working there over ten years, provide round-the-clock skilled nursing, medical support including wound care, podiatry, medication help, and occupational therapy, so residents with different care needs can find the right help. You'll find private and semi-private rooms, as well as studio, single room, and two-bedroom apartments for assisted or independent living, all with amenities like cable TV, WiFi, guest parking, kitchenettes, washers and dryers, sprinkler systems, and handicap features, and the bright, spacious rooms can be personalized with furniture or belongings that make a person feel more at home. Meals, including three homemade ones a day with options for special diets, are served in the dining room, and laundry, housekeeping, and personal care assistants help with daily needs like dressing, grooming, bathing, and medication. Residents can get help with movement, in and out of the shower, two-person transfers, and support with doctor's visits and errands thanks to transportation services, and there's help for those with diabetes, high blood pressure, or other conditions. Community activities fill each day with things like arts and crafts, exercise, music, book clubs, movie nights, dance, beanbag, air hockey, ping pong, puzzles, guest events, and outdoor relaxation, and the staff schedule at least two activities a day, along with larger events like Thanksgiving dinners and birthday parties. There's spiritual life, too-residents can attend daily Mass, prayers, receive communion, join the rosary, and talk with chaplains, with religious guidance inspired by the Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George, which you can really feel throughout the place. The environment encourages people to feel safe, respected, and cared for, with the staff guided by a mission to show Christ's mercy and love in daily life, and they're known for keeping a calm and peaceful atmosphere. For people facing dementia or memory issues, memory care programs and a special caregiver support group meet in person every second Tuesday of the month at 5:00 PM, where families get help, learn problem-solving skills, and talk in a supportive, confidential setting. Many visit the fitness center, salon or barbershop, spa, and recreation rooms, and there's always a place to read, pray, or just sit quietly in the yard spaces and outdoor areas. Professional nursing staff and the Sisters provide ongoing care and counseling, with those needing rehabilitation therapies getting the attention they require. Prices range from about $1,500 to $8,500 a month, depending on room style and care level. The focus remains on helping every resident keep their independence as much as possible while making sure they have the care and community support needed for a healthy and pleasant life.
