    Caring staff; facility unsafe, inconsistent

I have mixed feelings. The nursing and therapy staff (special thanks to Jenny, Donna and Raquel) were kind, attentive, offered good therapy, activities and a pleasant common area, but the facility is old, needs remodeling and the beauty salon/physical therapy spaces are spotty. Too often I saw neglect: missed meds, ignored call lights, cold/bland meals, cleanliness problems, privacy violations, bruises and even police/hospital trips - security and training clearly need work. Because of inconsistent care and safety risks, I can't confidently recommend this place for a loved one despite some excellent staff.

    Summary review

Overall impression: The reviews for Warrenton Manor are highly mixed, with strong polarization between very positive experiences and very serious negative allegations. Several reviewers describe the staff and nursing care as compassionate, attentive, and communicative, with specific staff members and a social worker receiving praise for going above and beyond. At the same time, other reviewers report severe lapses in care, safety, and cleanliness — including medication errors, unattended call lights, delays in recognizing serious illness, and allegations of abuse or neglect. This split indicates notable inconsistency in the resident experience and suggests variability in staffing, training, or management oversight.

Care quality and safety: A major theme among negative reviews is inadequate or neglectful care. Complaints include missed medications, delayed recognition of pneumonia, unattended call lights, and even exposure to excrement and unclean rooms. Some accounts escalate to hospitalization, police involvement, and death, which are serious red flags. Several reviewers report bruising, head injuries, residents being "doped up," privacy violations (staff taking belongings), and falsified updates to families. Conversely, many other reviewers explicitly praise the nursing staff and therapists, describe residents as well cared for, and say the facility proactively keeps families informed. These contradictory reports point to inconsistent application of care standards—some residents receive excellent attention while others experience dangerous neglect.

Staffing, training, and management: Staffing levels and staff performance are recurring concerns. Multiple reviews allege understaffing and staff being unresponsive or lazy, while other reviews call the staff "amazing." There are mentions of staff apologizing and an expressed need for better training, which suggests management may be aware of shortcomings but that remediation is uneven. Positive reviews highlight specific employees (e.g., Jenny, Donna, Raquel) and a notably helpful social worker; negative reviews reference staff dishonesty and false updates. The variance in reports suggests turnover or inconsistent supervision, and reviewers explicitly recommend more training and accountability.

Facilities and amenities: The physical plant receives mixed comments. Positive notes cite a pleasant front lounge with a piano, a physical therapy room, an activity room, an enclosed outdoor veranda, and garden spaces (including tomatoes). Beauty parlor services are listed as an amenity, though several reviews say the salon is not functioning at times. The building is also described as old and in need of remodeling by some reviewers. Temperature control problems (cold rooms or poor HVAC) are called out in the complaints. Cleanliness is a split area: while some commend infection control measures and general security, others report floors and rooms not kept clean and even exposure to excrement.

Dining and activities: Activity offerings and therapy are frequently cited as positives: daily activities, good therapy when available, and a generally comfortable environment for some residents. Dining receives criticism more often than praise: meals are described as cold or tepid, bland, salt-free, and sometimes left untouched by residents. Food quality and serving temperature appear to be consistent pain points for families.

Comparisons and reputation: A few reviews compare Warrenton Manor unfavorably to other facilities (one named Barathaven is described as well-trained with no incidents over several months), indicating that reviewers are benchmarking Warrenton Manor against other local options. Some reviewers strongly warn against admission, while others recommend the facility based on their own or their relatives' experiences. The presence of both glowing recommendations and urgent warnings suggests the facility may deliver good care under certain conditions or with certain staff, but the risk of serious lapses is nontrivial.

Notable patterns and takeaways: The most frequent and serious issues are inconsistent care delivery, staffing shortages or performance variability, safety/security incidents, and cleanliness/maintenance problems. The most commonly praised elements are individual staff members and certain therapy and activity offerings. For prospective families, these patterns imply the need for careful, targeted inquiry: ask about recent staffing ratios, medication administration protocols, incident reports, training programs, security measures, HVAC/temperature control, and how the facility addresses complaints. If possible, speak directly with current families, request evidence of corrective actions for past incidents, and tour the specific living areas and therapy/dining spaces to verify the aspects that matter most.

In summary: Warrenton Manor elicits strongly divergent accounts. It can provide compassionate, communicative care for some residents—backed by named staff and specific positive amenities—but also has multiple, serious allegations of neglect, safety risks, and poor cleanliness from other reviewers. The variability makes it essential for prospective residents and families to perform thorough due diligence, focusing on staffing consistency, documented quality and safety measures, and first-hand observations during a tour.

    About Warrenton Manor

Warrenton Manor sits in Warrenton and, on most days, has about 85 residents out of its 120 certified beds, which means the place never feels too full or too empty, and they've always stressed a welcoming environment where folks can make their rooms feel like home, and families can visit with animals as long as pets are up-to-date on their shots. The facility offers care types like nursing home, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, home care, and always keeps licensed nurses, RNs, LPNs, Nurse Assistants, and Certified Nurse Assistants on staff, with around 2.75 nursing hours per resident daily, which falls below the state average but is managed with help from physicians who cover physical and emotional needs. Staff stick around a little longer here, with a nurse turnover rate of 54.4%, which is lower than the state average, and families get updates about changes in condition, medications, or tests since they've built in open communication and 24/7 support. Safety gets regular attention too, with trained staff running monthly fire and elopement drills, keypad-locked doors, and steady emergency training, while all drivers-trained and CPR certified-help residents with transportation for outings, doctor visits, and errands. Residents can enjoy three daily meals with alternate options, snacks, and table service even for those who need help at meals, plus there's a barbershop, beauty salon, lounge, and a patio for quiet or social hours. People like that Warrenton Manor arranges outings, picnics, trips to baseball games or casinos, and keeps newsletters and programs going, with a social worker who helps folks set up transitions, connect to home health, Meals on Wheels, or community resources if they're heading home or somewhere new. There's more, with doctors for feet, vision, dental, psychiatry, and therapies for speech or occupational needs, and the community allows for short-term or respite stays at about $200 per day if someone just needs a break or help for a short while, and memory care beds are limited, so they're usually on a waitlist. On paper, Warrenton Manor follows strong infection safety practices, but state inspectors have found infection control issues and noted a few deficiencies, such as not always meeting professional care standards or completing care plans, so it's worth considering these reports when choosing care. Despite these concerns, it's still the highest rated senior living facility in Warrenton with a 7.5 out of 10 average rating, and it's a for-profit business currently affiliated with James & Judy Lincoln, keeping things running with monthly newsletters and a steady set of services designed to make life easier and safer for seniors as they age in place.
