    Warm staff, clean facility, pricey

I toured several times and felt welcome - staff were consistently warm, attentive and very helpful, and the grounds and public spaces are clean, bright and well kept. Meals are generally very good with plenty of choices and are included, but dining service can be chaotic/cumbersome and a few residents mentioned occasional cold or sub-par meals. The activity program is busy and varied, therapy and on-site services are available, and apartments/cottages are pleasant and fairly spacious (many units lack a full stove/kitchen; studios may be the only affordable option). Prices felt high for some layouts, Medicare isn't accepted, and staffing/management issues were noted by a few - overall I'd recommend it if the food service, unit layout and cost fit your needs.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The aggregated reviews for Solstice Senior Living at Fairport are predominantly positive, with a strong emphasis on the friendly, caring nature of the staff and a generally clean, home-like environment. Many reviewers praised the personal attention given during move-ins, the ongoing responsiveness of staff to residents' needs, and the approachable, family-oriented atmosphere. Multiple accounts highlight quick assistance for urgent placements and peace-of-mind follow-up, indicating a facility that can accommodate transitions and short-term recovery stays effectively.

Care quality and staff: A consistent strength across reviews is the staff — described repeatedly as kind, patient, attentive, and hardworking. Several reviews note long-tenured employees and relationships that feel familial, while others commend the staff for being understanding and accommodating, particularly around meal delivery, medication reminders, and orientation to the community. On-site medical supports (regular doctor visits, bloodwork, X-rays, and on-site physical and occupational therapy) combined with optional home care services paint a picture of a community that can support a range of independent living needs while offering access to healthcare resources. That said, there are recurring concerns about staff turnover and occasional limited staffing levels during evenings and weekends, which some reviewers felt impacted service consistency.

Facilities and housing: The physical environment is frequently described as clean, well-maintained, and cheerful with pleasant common spaces, gardens, patios, and balconies. Housing options include studios, one-bedrooms, and cottages (some with attached garages), offering choices for different preferences and budgets. Many reviews appreciate the small-to-mid-size community feel, wide hallways, artwork, and non-institutional touches. Criticisms focus on the lack of full kitchens in many units (no stove, limited kitchenette), limited storage space, and some units being described as small. A few reviewers felt the main building had an institutional vibe, and several reports mention renovation work underway (e.g., carpeting and exterior updates) that could temporarily affect residents.

Dining and housekeeping: Dining receives mixed but generally positive feedback — numerous reviewers praise the food quality, variety, and accommodating dietary options, and many cite the communal meals as a source of social connection. However, there are consistent remarks about dining service issues: chaotic dining room experiences, meals being delivered and left with doors unlocked, occasional cold meals or sub-par dishes, and inconsistent dining service procedures. Housekeeping is usually noted as a plus (weekly cleaning included), but some accounts mention housekeeping staff serving in the dining room or substandard housekeeping/turnover, raising concerns about staffing allocation and quality control in a few instances.

Activities and social life: Activities are a notable strength, with many reviews highlighting an active calendar, proactive activity staff, frequent events, games (bridge, card games), outings, holiday celebrations, and opportunities for intergenerational activities (e.g., Easter egg hunts). Amenities such as the salon, library, chapel, gym, game room, and theater support varied interests. Nevertheless, some reviewers felt activity variety was less on certain days (notably Sundays) or that participation levels were low; others compared the activity slate unfavorably to other communities.

Management, tours, and sales experience: Tour experiences are generally praised — tour guides (named individuals appear frequently) are described as thorough, welcoming, and informative, and marketing staff are often helpful in finding price-appropriate options. Several reviewers explicitly said they would recommend the community based on tour impressions. Conversely, a portion of reviews flagged sales-driven impressions, commission-driven staff, or management lapses (privacy breaches, doors left unlocked, unexpected painting without notice). These negative operational reports, while less frequent than the positives, signal occasional process or leadership issues that can erode trust.

Value, costs, and policies: Many reviewers found the community affordable or good value compared with alternatives, particularly given meals, utilities, and activities are often included. Some did note affordability constraints for larger units or cottages, high local taxes, or ineligibility for certain VA benefits due to income thresholds. An explicit additional cost mentioned repeatedly is the safety pendant fee (~$50/month). Several reviewers pointed out that Medicare is not accepted for some services, which matters to prospective residents on fixed benefits.

Notable patterns and balanced assessment: The dominant themes are strong staff-resident relationships, solid cleanliness and atmosphere, plentiful amenities, and a robust activity program — all contributing to a warm, social, family-like community. Recurrent issues include inconsistent dining service, occasional management/operational problems (privacy and communication), variable staffing coverage evenings/weekends, absence of full kitchens in many units, and a subset of reports about staff turnover. These negatives are not universal but appear enough times to be material considerations for prospective residents and families.

In summary, Solstice Senior Living at Fairport appears to be a well-liked independent living community with meaningful strengths in staff quality, cleanliness, social programming, and available on-site medical supports. Prospective residents should weigh the strong community feel and included services against potential drawbacks such as limited unit kitchens, certain dining/service inconsistencies, intermittent staffing limitations, and specific cost items (pendant fee, higher prices for larger units). Families are advised to ask detailed, practical questions during tours about 24/7 staffing coverage, dining procedures, parking availability, storage, recent staffing turnover, and how the community handles communication and privacy to ensure it aligns with their expectations and needs.
