    Transformative memory care with luxury

I moved my mom here and it's been transformative - the staff are professional, warm, and deeply attentive, and the transition to memory care was smooth. The building is gorgeous and purpose-built with museum-quality art, generous public spaces, rooftop/gym and on-site therapists, and the dining is world-class (chef-driven menus, bistro, sommelier). The daily programming - concerts, Broadway performers, art studio, lectures and outings - keeps residents engaged, gives us peace of mind, and truly feels like home.

    About The Apsley

The Apsley is a senior living community in a 19-story high-rise on the Upper West Side, with interiors designed by Champalimaud, and you'll notice the attention to detail right away, with impressive decor and modern comforts like Wi-Fi and high-speed internet through the building and private, fully-furnished apartments that let residents feel at home whether they want independent living, assisted living, or memory care. The staff are trained to provide personalized help, using the Validation method with empathy, and there's always someone around day and night, including on-site nurses and special Designated Care Managers for residents in the assisted living program. Residents who deal with memory loss, Alzheimer's, or dementia can live in the secure Reminiscence Neighborhood, and there are special programs and clubs for them, along with memory care support group meetings each month for families. There are separate neighborhoods for memory care and for those who need help with daily tasks, and care ranges from non-medical home care to skilled nursing, so folks can get care right in their apartment and stay as their needs change. The Apsley has a strong sense of community, with lots of activity areas across different floors-folks gather in the parlor, relax in the library, or join neighbors in the grand dining room and private dining room for meals that use quality ingredients. People who like to keep busy enjoy weekly history lectures, cultural events, restaurant outings, theater trips, and classes ranging from film and music to mahjong, and there's a theater room where residents can watch performances or movies with friends. The lounge, with its piano, is a favorite spot, and pets are welcome, making it easier for people to bring a bit of home with them. Every residence comes with an emergency call system, and the staff help with dressing, bathing, and medication as needed. The building is designed with seniors in mind and has specialized features to promote comfort and dignity. There are activities, workshops, and all-inclusive care rates so costs are clear, and it's possible for folks to age in place because more care can come to them as time goes on. The Apsley is managed by Sunrise Senior Living and brings in elements of the neighborhood itself, offering a refined yet inviting space for seniors who want comfort, culture, and support as they get older.

    About Sunrise Senior Living

The Apsley is managed by Sunrise Senior Living.

Sunrise Senior Living is one of the largest senior care operators in North America, managing over 270 communities across the United States and Canada with approximately 22,000 employees. Founded in 1981 by Paul and Terry Klaassen in Oakton, Virginia, Sunrise pioneered the Victorian mansion-style senior living community design, inspired by Dutch senior care models and European hospitality concepts. Headquartered in McLean, Virginia, Sunrise offers a comprehensive continuum of care including independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and hospice coordination.

The company's signature memory care programs include Terrace Club Neighborhoods for residents with early to moderate memory loss, and Reminiscence Neighborhoods for those with advanced Alzheimer's and dementia. As an Authorized Validation Organization, Sunrise practices the Validation Method—which they call "exquisite listening"—using empathy-based communication techniques to reduce anxiety and improve quality of life for memory care residents. Their Live With Purpose™ programming engages residents through personalized activities aligned with their interests and life experiences.

Sunrise leverages advanced technology including Sunrise CareConnect, an electronic health record system built on PointClickCare technology that enables real-time documentation, comprehensive health tracking, and remote access for healthcare providers. The Road Home Program offers specialized 30-day transitional care for seniors discharged from hospitals or rehabilitation centers, providing medication management and 24/7 support.

The company has achieved notable sustainability certifications, with facilities earning WELL Health-Safety Rating, WELL Equity Rating, ENERGY STAR® certifications, and LEED Silver designation. Sunrise communities feature Individualized Service Plans, Designated Care Managers, and welcome pets, with many locations maintaining community cats or dogs. After celebrating 40 years in 2021, Sunrise continues its mission to champion quality of life for all seniors through their resident-centered, holistic approach to senior care.
