The Village at Penfield: A Willow Ridge Senior Living Community sits in a peaceful, park-like area in Penfield, NY, close to downtown Rochester and near stores and local activities, and the community has a friendly staff that tries hard to support residents' needs while making everything feel comfortable and homey. The community gives many choices for seniors, like independent living options for those who want to stay active and handle things on their own, assisted living for folks who could use a hand with daily tasks such as bathing, dressing, and managing medicine, and memory care for people living with dementia or Alzheimer's, with an environment set up to reduce confusion and keep everyone safe. There are companion care and home care services for seniors who prefer to stay at home with extra support, and respite care is available to help families who need a break, plus hospice care is an option for those who require it, so the community covers a wide range of needs. The facility offers private and shared rooms, with several floor plans that include kitchens or kitchenettes, private bathrooms, cable TV, high-speed internet, telephone service, housekeeping, laundry, and air conditioning so everyone can find their comfort, and the grounds feature five pretty courtyards, a resident garden, a koi fish pond, a walking path, a game room, a well-stocked library, and a fountain-side gazebo where residents like to sit and visit or enjoy the fresh air. Food is made to fit varied diets, such as no-concentrated-sweets and no-salt-added, with three chef-prepared meals served daily in a restaurant-style dining room and lighter meals in the bistro, giving everyone choices, and hallways and common areas are all designed to be accessible and safe with things like sprinkler systems and handicap features. Fitness rooms, a fitness center, a salon and barbershop, worship services, a chapel, and even spa services are on site, while community activities include music programs, Watermark University classes, day trips, educational and cultural events, and the EngageVR program. The Village offers personal care assistants, medication management, and support with dressing, bathing, and transferring, as well as walking and wheelchair help, with up to 12-16 hours of nursing care and a 24-hour call system in place to give peace of mind. The community supports modern technology needs for seniors like Wi-Fi, senior cell phones, hearing aids, medical alert systems from brands like Bay Alarm Medical, Medical Guardian, and ADT Medical Alert, and also has things in place for senior internet plans, home security, ID theft protection for seniors, medication dispensers, and communication devices. There are senior apartments, condos, and townhomes for people who want a different kind of living option, and transportation and shuttle services are provided for medical visits, shopping trips, and outings, plus the community is pet-friendly for those who want to bring their companions. VA benefits help is available for veterans, and all staff go through regular training to keep their state license up to date, with the Willow Ridge Senior Living team running things and being known for their long service and dedication to the residents. The Village at Penfield shares resources and guides on caregiving, senior safety, and local transportation, works with local groups, and keeps a focus on wellness and social life so everyone can stay as healthy and engaged as possible, and most folks find the setting relaxing and easy to navigate, with plenty of ways to spend the day, stay active, or just enjoy quiet time with friends.

Warm staff, clean, but limited
I had an overall very positive experience - the staff are warm, attentive and often go above and beyond, activities are plentiful, the community is clean and feels safe, and meals are generally good. Admissions was thorough and transparent, visits and communication were easy, and COVID precautions/vaccinated staff gave me confidence. Important caveats: rooms are small, many units lack single-occupancy or in-room showers, and the community cannot handle high-acuity or wandering/combative residents. I also noted inconsistent administrative/staff performance in a few cases (billing, incident handling, occasional theft) and rising costs/benefit confusion. I would recommend Atria for most seniors who need assisted living but advise confirming care limits, room size/options and contractual/financial details first.
