    Unsafe unsanitary neglectful nursing care

I placed my loved one here and regret it. A few caregivers were warm and activities existed, but overall the place felt dirty, understaffed and poorly managed - bed bugs, mice/roaches reported, cold/repetitive meals, and shared rooms. Nursing and management were unresponsive (forgotten meds, discontinued insulin, ignored severe pain/shortness of breath, ambulance delays) and upper floors were chaotic and unsanitary. It felt unsafe to me - look elsewhere.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: Reviews of Cobb's Hill Manor are sharply polarized but skew strongly negative in frequency and severity. Multiple reviewers describe serious problems with cleanliness, pest control, medication management, medical responsiveness, staffing, and management responsiveness. Although a minority of reviews praise specific staff members, activities, or overall care, the most frequent and most severe themes are neglect, safety risks, and unsanitary conditions that raise significant concern for current or prospective residents and their families.

Care quality and clinical issues: A recurring and serious theme is inadequate clinical care and medication management. Reported problems include medications being forgotten on day one, insulin being discontinued, and residents’ complaints of pain, shortness of breath, or fractures being ignored. Several reviewers described emergency situations with ambulance delays or near-fatal outcomes tied to perceived inattention. There are also reports that primary care physicians or on-site doctors did not see residents as needed. These accounts point to potentially unsafe clinical oversight and inconsistent follow-through on medical needs.

Staffing and staff behavior: Reviews depict a mixed staff picture: some reviewers praise individual employees (notably a med tech referred to as Q) and call certain staff friendly and loving, while many others report unempathetic, inattentive, or rude staff. Multiple comments indicate chronic understaffing, staff quitting, and high turnover, which reviewers connect to reduced supervision, missed care, and escalating resident conflicts. Management and leadership receive heavy criticism—administrators, head nurses, and owners are described as ineffective, unresponsive, or even callous. Families also report poor communication channels, no callbacks, and limited avenues to register concerns, which exacerbates anxiety for out-of-state relatives.

Safety, behavior, and supervision: Several reviews describe chaotic and unsafe resident behavior on upper floors — yelling, cursing at staff, throwing cups of water, blankets, and even teeth; attempts to use elevators to leave; and general disrespect toward staff. These incidents, combined with reports of inadequate supervision and ineffective management, suggest safety and behavioral management are significant issues in some units. Comments about a “nursing home vibe,” shared rooms with shared services, and lack of private accommodations also contribute to concerns about appropriateness of placement for certain residents.

Facility condition, cleanliness, and pests: There is a stark contrast reported between the first-floor lobby (described as clean and quiet) and the upper floors (described as filthy). Specific allegations include fecal matter smeared on walls, juice spilled and not promptly cleaned, cigarette smoke smells, and rooms that are quiet but dirty. Multiple reviewers report pest issues — bed bugs, mice in kitchen and rooms, and roaches — and call for a deep cleanse. The building is described as old and aesthetically unpleasing; dining carpeting, plastic chairs, and large empty dining spaces were noted as signs of neglected common areas. These issues raise infection-control and general sanitation concerns.

Dining and activities: Dining quality is another frequent complaint: food is described as cold, disgusting, repetitive, limited, and poorly managed, with some reviewers saying the meals are poor despite a few saying meals were 'not bad.' The dining area’s condition (dirty carpeting, plastic seating, empty rooms) further dampens the meal experience. Activities are reported inconsistently — some reviews say activities are limited or poor, while a minority praise impressive or amazing activities and a unique approach to assisted living. This suggests programming quality is inconsistent between units or shifts.

Patterns, variability, and notable contradictions: A striking pattern is the inconsistency of experiences. Some reviewers relate positive, even glowing, impressions (great care, loving environment, amazing staff and activities), while many others recount severe neglect, safety hazards, and unsanitary conditions. These contradictions may reflect differences across wings/floors, variability across shifts, or changes over time (some mention the facility was previously better run). Because of this variability, experiences appear highly dependent on which unit, which staff are present, and possibly when the visits occur.

Management and procedural concerns: Beyond immediate care and cleanliness, reviewers report systemic operational issues: ineffective owner/management, lack of complaint channels, strict or surprising policies and uniform fees, and instances of belongings not being returned. These recurring administrative complaints compound the clinical and environmental concerns and point to problems with oversight, accountability, and transparency.

Conclusions and suggested due diligence: The review set raises serious red flags — particularly around infection control, pest management, medication safety, emergency responsiveness, staffing levels, and management accountability. At the same time, the presence of positive reviews and named compassionate staff indicates there are committed employees and that some units or shifts may provide acceptable care. For anyone considering Cobb's Hill Manor, it would be prudent to verify current conditions before placement: request recent health inspection reports, ask for staffing ratios and turnover statistics, inquire about pest-control and deep-cleaning protocols, review medication-management procedures, ask how behaviorally challenging residents are managed, and speak directly with families of current residents. Visit multiple times (including evenings and weekends), tour the specific unit where placement would occur, observe dining times, and ask management for documented incident/complaint resolutions. Given the severity of many complaints, prospective residents and families should proceed with caution and obtain concrete, up-to-date evidence that the facility has addressed the specific issues raised in these reviews.

    About Cobb's Hill Manor

Cobb's Hill Manor sits right by Cobbs Hill Park at Monroe and Culver in Rochester, and the community's helped many families figure out senior living through their free service, which explains care options step by step and connects folks to a senior living advisor, and there's real "verified reviews" showing what it's like from people who've been there. The place covers a lot of ground, offering assisted living, memory care for Alzheimer's and other memory troubles, nursing home care, and independent living, plus in-home care for those needing more support, all in one spot, so residents don't have to move as needs change, and you'll see names like "SeniorAdvisor.com Promise," "Local Experts," and "Community Info" that point folks to the right information, which is nice since the New York State Health Connector keeps everything transparent and up to date for anyone who wants to look up a license or read about other care providers. Residents get help with daily tasks-bathing, dressing, medication management, even diabetes care-along with a strong mental wellness program, 12-16 hour nursing care, and medical care coordination, which helps with the doctor and pharmacy side of things. For living arrangements, the place has double, semi-private, and private rooms that are available now, and there's all-inclusive rent that takes care of utilities (even Direct TV, though not the phone), three meals a day with home-cooked choices and flexible meal times so folks don't have to eat on a rigid schedule, and laundry and weekly housekeeping are included so folks don't need to worry about chores. The building has 118 beds and holds a license as an adult home, expecting to get Assisted Living Program (ALP) licensure soon so Medicaid would cover eligible residents, and security's around 24/7 with professional nursing assistants on hand in case someone needs help at any hour. Amenities include a pretty dining room, a club room, billiards lounge, wellness and exercise space, beauty shop, raised garden beds, and a big landscaped courtyard for anyone who likes to sit outside or garden, plus indoor spaces like the TV lounge and library. There are daily activities like games, baking, shopping, music, creative writing, and even trips out, plus designated smoking areas for those who need them. The staff covers housekeeping, linens, transportation, and there's Wi-Fi throughout so residents can get online. Folks can check "verified reviews" for first-hand experiences, use the Community Info and provider look-up tool, and everything is grouped by care type to keep choices clear, whether someone needs memory care that prevents wandering and lowers confusion, independent living, or more medical or nursing support, and there's always that focus on safety, comfort, and enough choices to fit what each person really needs, with full transparency about care quality and services.
