    Outstanding rehab care, compassionate staff

I stayed for a rehab stay and left very pleased - excellent PT/OT helped me regain walking and transfers, meds were managed carefully, and the care team was professional, warm and responsive. Administrator Alaina, DON Melissa and NP Carol communicated proactively and compassionately; nurses, CNAs and aides made me feel at home with personalized attention, activities that kept me engaged, and helpful support with finances/Medicaid. I'm grateful for the outstanding care and peace of mind and would return.

    Summary of reviews

Woodside Manor presents a mixed picture in which strong clinical and interpersonal strengths coexist with operational vulnerabilities. Many accounts emphasize high-quality, therapy-focused care: physical and occupational therapy staff receive frequent praise for restoring mobility and transfers, and reviewers describe measurable functional gains. Nursing staff and CNAs are often described as compassionate and communicative, and several families reported feeling included in care decisions. Administrative staff are noted as accessible and helpful, particularly around financial and Medicaid coordination.

Care delivery appears to be a clear strength in many stays. Positive narratives highlight personalized care planning, supportive bedside manner, and effective coordination among therapy, nursing, and social work that contribute to successful short-term rehabilitation outcomes. Aides and therapists are described as patient and accommodating, and activities programming is mentioned as engaging and contributing to residents' sense of purpose and social engagement.

At the same time, multiple operational issues recurred across accounts. Cleanliness and environmental maintenance were inconsistent: reviewers described sanitation concerns in rooms and bathrooms, pest-control problems in personal storage areas, and general upkeep needs. The building and décor are described as dated, and some mechanical/amenity issues (for example, limited shower availability) were noted. Meal service is another area of variability, with accounts of cold or overcooked food and limited dietary accommodations or menu communication.

Staffing and operational reliability are additional areas of concern. Several descriptions point to staffing shortages that lead to long waits for assistance, inconsistent availability of therapy sessions, and delays in medication administration. There are also reports indicating variability in staff conduct and communication tone, and a few accounts raised significant safety and timeliness concerns, including delayed medication provision and confrontational interactions. Laundry and personal-item handling processes were described as inconsistent in some cases.

For prospective residents and families, the facility offers clear strengths for those seeking therapy-driven rehabilitation and compassionate frontline caregivers, and administrative assistance with financial planning is a noted benefit. At the same time, it would be prudent to evaluate operational aspects in person: tour resident rooms and common areas for cleanliness and maintenance, observe meal service and ask about dietary accommodation procedures, review staffing patterns during peak care times, confirm therapy schedules and access, and ask about medication-administration checks and laundry protocols. These targeted inquiries can help balance the facility’s clinical strengths against the operational concerns described.

    About Woodside Manor Nursing Home

Woodside Manor Nursing Home sits on South Clinton Avenue in Rochester, surrounded by pretty trees and landscaped gardens that make the outside pleasant all year, and the building's single-level design helps people feel comfortable because there aren't any stairs or elevators to worry about, which makes it easier for folks with walkers, canes, and wheelchairs. The place is small, which means it's cozy inside, and you can see and hear life happening without feeling lost in a crowd, and with private and semi-private rooms, there's a sense of privacy and community at the same time. Staff here get special training for geriatric care and stick to twenty-four hour nursing, so help is always right there if someone needs anything like medication, getting dressed, or moving around. The nurse-call buttons in bedrooms and bathrooms make it simple to get quick help, too, and every room has cable television and telephone service, which is nice on quiet days.

People get nutritious meals made with fresh ingredients, and there's a focus on balanced diets with enough vitamins and minerals, which means the food does more than just taste good-it keeps everyone healthy. The activity programs can fill up a week fast, from group events to pet therapy, with visits from a bunny rabbit, a dog, and a parrot that are popular and really bring out smiles, and there's also art therapy, social programs, and day trips in a wheelchair-accessible bus for those who like to see a bit of Rochester. Laundry, housekeeping, and social work services cover most needs, making life simpler for both residents and their families.

For health care, the facility covers full skilled nursing care around the clock, manages both long-term stays and short-term rehabilitation, and handles needs for people with acute or chronic health issues, which includes help with orthopedic care after surgery, wound care, oxygen if needed, and even hospice or ostomy care for those who need it. There are physical, occupational, and speech therapies, plus visiting audiology, dental, podiatry, and mental health professionals to help with different concerns. The post-acute nursing services mean people recovering from surgeries or dealing with illnesses have all they need for rehabilitation in one spot, and a dietitian helps keep meals right for each individual. The living, dining, and activity rooms are spacious enough for gatherings, but not so big they're overwhelming, so you always feel like part of a small circle. Medicaid and Medicare services are available, with affiliation agreements in place with area hospitals for a smooth transfer if someone needs to go. Woodside Manor is part of Hurlbut Care Communities and keeps a home-like feeling for everyone who lives there.
