    Welcoming compassionate care occasional issues

I felt welcomed by courteous, caring staff who clearly love their work - rooms, halls and grounds were very clean and the nursing/rehab care was excellent, with lots of activities, personalized plans and a warm, family-like atmosphere that gave me real peace of mind. Admission and communication were smooth and staff were responsive, though COVID visit restrictions, occasional staffing lapses, noisy roommates and a few organizational hiccups did occur. Overall I recommend this facility for committed, compassionate care.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews for Buckeye Forest at Jackson is predominantly positive, with repeated praise for staff dedication, the rehabilitation program, cleanliness, and the community atmosphere. Many reviewers emphasize compassionate, attentive care and personalized care plans that create peace of mind for families. Several accounts highlight a strong culture among caregivers — staff who are perceived as loving their work, engaging with residents, and creating a family-like environment. The grounds and building are frequently described as clean and well kept, with pleasant outdoor areas and wildlife noted as a positive feature.

Staff performance is the single most prominent theme. Numerous reviewers describe staff as courteous, efficient, and quick to respond to needs; many credited staff and management with making transitions smooth and helping residents return home after rehab. Long-tenured aides and hands-on caregivers receive particular praise for building relationships with residents and families, sharing laughs, and providing dignity and compassion. At the same time, reviewers also report variability in staff competence and availability. A recurring concern is understaffing or busy shifts that leave employees unable to meet every need; some reviewers specifically say there are too many patients per hall. This inconsistency means that while many residents experience excellent, personalized care, others have encountered delays, staff who were unable to attend promptly, or interactions with less capable team members.

Clinical and rehabilitation services are widely regarded as a strength. Several reviewers call the rehab program "excellent" or "top-notch," noting effective therapy that helped residents recover and return home quickly. Positive descriptions include engaging therapy staff, a personal touch, and measurable improvement during short stays. However, a few reviews describe problematic clinical experiences: reports of unorganized care, equipment failures, medications not being administered, and a short negative hospital stay (26 hours) that left one reviewer advising others to consider different options. These negative reports stand in contrast to many five-star staff ratings and indicate that clinical consistency can fluctuate.

Facility and atmosphere comments are mixed but lean positive. Many reviewers appreciate the clean halls, tidy rooms, and well-maintained grounds; the setting is sometimes described as warm and homelike, and a number of reviewers explicitly compare the community to a "big happy family." Outdoor features and wildlife (deer, turkey) were noted fondly. Conversely, a subset of reviewers felt the lobby and some accommodations were sparse or "not homey," and one reviewer described the environment as depressing and not conducive to healing. Noise in shared rooms—particularly loud TVs and difficulty speaking in-room due to continual disturbance—was a repeatedly mentioned downside that can impact resident comfort.

Activities, dining, and social programming receive largely positive feedback. Multiple reviewers praise the variety of activities, planned outings, and community involvement, saying the activity program is enjoyable and meaningful. Food receives mixed-to-positive remarks: several reviewers said the lunch looked good or the food was liked, though there were sporadic reports of dinner confusion or service mix-ups. The combination of activities and decent dining contributes to the sense that staff prioritize residents' quality of life.

Management and operations appear to be a relative strength according to many reviews; comments highlight responsive management, continuous improvement efforts, and good hospitality. The admission process is frequently described as easy and smooth, and transitions (including transfers back home) are often handled well. Still, operational weaknesses show up in reports of disorganization, broken equipment, and lapses in care processes (e.g., missed medications, lack of an initiated care plan for one resident). COVID-19 restrictions were also cited as a downside during the pandemic period, limiting family visits and some group activities.

Taken together, the pattern is one of an overall well-regarded community with standout strengths in staff dedication, rehabilitation, cleanliness, and social programming, but with notable variability in day-to-day execution. Positive experiences — especially successful rehab outcomes, warm staff-resident relationships, and clean, well-maintained spaces — are common. However, prospective residents and families should be aware of the mixed reports around staffing levels, occasional organizational lapses, medication administration, and roommate noise. The majority of reviewers recommend Buckeye Forest at Jackson, often highly, particularly in southeastern Ohio, but the reviews also suggest it is important to ask specific questions during a tour: inquire about current staffing ratios, medication-management protocols, roommate arrangements and noise mitigation, and how the facility handles busy shifts or equipment failures. Doing so can help ensure the experience aligns with the generally strong positive cases described in these reviews.
