    Pleasant facility but staffing concerns

I love the activities, easy-to-reach facilities, piano and church services - it's clean, smells pleasant, and many staff truly care, so residents often seem happy and pampered. But I also saw understaffing, occasional indifferent or inexperienced caregivers, office staff filling floor roles, and practical issues (blocked handicapped ramp, parking) - and a family's horrible experience with a seriously ill resident left me very worried. Overall I'm impressed by the facility and many amazing staff, but I'd advise confirming staffing and patient-care practices before deciding.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment for Colonial Park Manor is mixed, with a substantial number of reviewers describing positive aspects of life there and an equally notable set of serious concerns. On the positive side, reviewers frequently mention a robust activity program (including piano performances and volunteer opportunities) and regular church services, suggesting the facility provides social and spiritual engagement for residents. Several accounts highlight an on-property apartment option and a convenient, easy-to-access facility. Multiple reviewers comment on a pleasant-smelling, clean environment and describe the daily care as pampering or loving. There are consistent comments about specific staff members and long-tenured family-connected employees who create a warm, familiar atmosphere for residents; several reviewers explicitly call the staff "amazing" or say staff truly care about residents. These positive notes often come from family members with close relationships to residents and contribute to a generally favorable impression for some visitors and residents.

However, there are persistent and significant negative themes that temper the positive feedback. Understaffing is a recurring concern: reviewers report busy staff, insufficient caregiving presence, and instances where administrative or office staff are used to fill floor caregiving roles. This shortage appears to contribute to reports of indifference or inattentive behavior by some employees, and a few reviewers go further to describe staff incompetence. Critically, several reviews cite very serious negative experiences, including allegations of mistreatment of patients and at least one "horrible experience" reported by a family that was deeply upset. These are not isolated quality-of-life complaints but suggest episodes that caused substantial distress to residents and families.

Facility and access issues appear in multiple reviews. While overall cleanliness and a pleasant smell are noted positively, practical accessibility concerns are also raised: a blocked handicapped ramp and parking problems are specifically mentioned. Such issues can materially affect mobility and family visits, especially for residents with limited mobility. The mix of praise for the physical environment with reports of accessibility obstacles points to uneven execution on the facility side — common areas and rooms may be well-kept, but operational details affecting safety and access need attention.

Management and organizational themes emerge as well. Some reviewers perceive the facility as profit-driven, which they connect with staffing decisions and a sense of indifference from employees. At the same time, the presence of long-tenured, family-connected staff suggests institutional memory and personal commitment among some employees. This juxtaposition indicates a polarized internal culture: pockets of committed, high-quality care alongside systemic pressures (staffing, administrative priorities) that can lead to inconsistent resident experiences.

In conclusion, Colonial Park Manor exhibits clear strengths: engaging activities, spiritual programming, positive impressions of cleanliness and certain caregiving staff, and on-site apartment living that many families find appealing. However, the facility also shows important weaknesses — most notably understaffing, variable staff competence and attitude, serious allegations of mistreatment by some families, and accessibility/parking problems. Prospective residents and families should weigh these mixed reports carefully: speak directly with current families, ask about staffing levels and turnover, tour the physical site (including ramps and parking), and request specific incidents or references regarding care concerns. For the provider, priorities for improvement would include addressing staffing shortages, ensuring that administrative staff do not routinely fill caregiving roles, resolving accessibility issues, and investigating and transparently addressing any allegations of mistreatment to rebuild trust and consistency in care.

    About Colonial Park Manor

Colonial Park Manor sits at 600 W West Frontage Road in Okemah, Oklahoma, and folks will notice straight away that it's a for-profit nursing home facility with 80 beds, set up for both long-term residents and those who just need short-term care or rehabilitation after surgery, injury, or illness, and there's a real effort to keep things feeling home-like and comfortable, which shows up in the way the building has nicely landscaped courtyards, porches, and patios, so people can get outside in the fresh air, watch the birds, or sit and visit with others. There are private and semi-private rooms, though private rooms are a bit limited, and every room comes with free cable television, which makes it easy to pass the time or keep up with favorite shows, and there's a team of trained professionals around the clock to help residents with daily activities, wound care, IV therapy, and other skilled nursing tasks, including Alzheimer's care and assisted living services, so folks who need a bit more help have support nearby. Programs here are set up so each day has some structure, and there's a mix of arts and crafts, games, music, and social activities like church services and musical performances right on-site, and everything's planned to be fun while helping everyone stay active. Meals are made following plans set up by a registered dietitian, so each resident gets food that fits their health needs, and personal laundry and housekeeping services happen every day so people don't have to worry about chores. Rehabilitation is available, including physical, occupational, and speech therapy for folks who're recovering from surgery or working on mobility, speech, or swallowing, and care gets coordinated with outside doctors and surgeons if it's needed. English is the main language spoken, and the administrator, Donna Simmons, and the additional contact, Darla Cheatwood, keep things running smoothly. While there aren't listed awards or special designations outside of being a Skilled Nursing Facility, Colonial Park Manor stands out for its attention to making life easier and more comfortable, with daily help and features aimed at keeping everyone as independent and happy as possible within their abilities.
