    Warm staff but inconsistent care

I appreciated the warm, genuinely caring staff, beautiful/clean homelike facility, good meals and many activities - medical and end-of-life care were often compassionate and attentive. However, I experienced frequent understaffing, slow call-button response, inconsistent communication and occasional hygiene/maintenance lapses (and higher costs), so care reliability varied. If you value atmosphere and kind caregivers, it's worth touring - but be cautious about staffing and follow up on care assurances.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is mixed but leans toward positive experiences with frequent and substantive caveats. Many reviewers express strong appreciation for the frontline caregiving teams and nursing staff, noting that these employees are kind, compassionate and often go above and beyond. Nursing and medication administration receive repeated praise from multiple families, as do quick maintenance responses and the general cleanliness and attractive appearance of common areas, courtyards and grounds. The architecture and décor—often described as upscale or hotel-like—combined with restaurant-style dining, a bistro/café, salon and active activity calendar create a feeling of an engaging, social community for many residents.

Dining and activities are consistent strengths in the reviews. Numerous comments highlight a robust menu with multiple choices, generous portions and flexible mealtime options (including takeout and family dining). Activity offerings are broad—arts and crafts, musical entertainment, gardening, exercise classes, shopping trips and outings—and many residents are reported to be socially engaged and enjoying the programming. The availability of transportation, weekly cleaning/laundry services, and other all-inclusive amenities contribute to convenience and a sense of value for many families.

However, there is a clear and recurring set of operational concerns. Understaffing is a dominant theme: reviewers frequently report reduced staffing levels on weekends and nights, resulting in long call-bell response times (reports range from 20 minutes to multiple hours), delayed bathing or missed hygiene care, and inconsistent attention during some shifts. Several reviewers link staffing shortages to safety issues—falls not reported in a timely manner, delayed responses after incidents, or inadequate assistance resulting in injuries. Medication and pharmacy coordination problems also appear repeatedly: missed refills, medication chart mismatches, unprescribed substitutions, and general administrative confusion around prescriptions.

Communication and administrative organization are additional areas of repeated complaint. Families describe poor handoffs between shifts, unclear or unreturned communication from office staff, and at times disorganized or misleading interactions during admissions (including a rescinded contract and pressure tactics reported by some). While some reviews praise engaged and transparent leadership—citing managers or directors who personally follow up and resolve issues—others describe turnover, ineffective new management, or fired administrators, which appears to have produced variability in service quality over time.

There are also polarized accounts about cleanliness and living-unit conditions. Many reviewers describe clean, well-appointed apartments and nicely maintained grounds, while a smaller but significant number report unsanitary situations (bad smells, urine smell, feces left in toilets, bed bugs in isolated reports), rough or scuffed furniture, and problems with apartment readiness or housekeeping continuity (including gaps in housekeeping and a housekeeper absence). Construction and renovation activity was mentioned frequently: for some this meant improved, updated interiors; for others it meant dark, closed-in areas, construction disruption and undesirable exterior views (cemetery, driveways/dumpsters) during renovations.

Safety, equity and quality-of-care extremes must be noted. While many families describe exceptional end-of-life/hospice coordination, personalized care plans, and staff who remember residents by name, multiple reviews recount serious lapses: falls not documented or reported, delayed hospital transfers, not showering residents, toileting and incontinence care lapses, and at least one report of a resident death tied to an incident. There are also reports of rude or discriminatory staff behavior in isolated cases. These accounts, while not the majority, are serious and recur enough to be a prominent concern for prospective families to investigate directly.

Pricing and contract issues appear mixed: the all-inclusive flat-rate model and diverse apartment sizes are attractive to many reviewers and perceived as good value by some. Others flagged high cost, unexpected charges (for unused apartments or meals), threatened rent increases, and poor refund or contract-handling practices. Prospective residents should carefully review the contract terms, deposit/refund policies, and what is included versus billed as extras (salon, certain services, etc.).

Patterns in the reviews suggest variability by time, unit and staffing leadership: several accounts mention that care improved after leadership changes or after targeted care-plan meetings with directors and nurses, indicating management can influence outcomes substantially. Conversely, reports of understaffing, administrative confusion, and inconsistent housekeeping suggest ongoing operational challenges. Overall, many families are very satisfied—citing great food, engaging activities, responsive caregivers and peace of mind—while a significant minority experienced lapses severe enough to recommend caution or to look elsewhere.

Recommendations for prospective families based on these patterns: schedule multiple tours at different times (weekday, weekend, evening) to observe staffing levels and activity programming; ask specifically about staffing ratios, weekend/night coverage, and average call-bell response times; request written examples of medication and emergency protocols and how falls/incidents are documented and communicated; verify contract, deposit and refund policies in writing; ask about recent management turnover and planned renovations and their timelines; and, for residents with special dietary or mobility needs, confirm how individualized care and dietary accommodations are handled. Inspect apartments for cleanliness and odors, and meet or speak with the charge nurse or director to assess responsiveness. These steps will help families weigh the many strengths the community offers against the recurring operational concerns shown in the reviews.
