    Mostly positive but safety concerns

I've had a mostly positive experience at Parkland Manor - the staff (CNAs and housekeepers like Bree) are kind, attentive and make residents feel loved, the facility is exceptionally clean and smells fresh, and the food is good (strawberry shortbread cake was a hit). I would recommend it, but I've also seen a few troubling incidents of rude or aggressive behavior and safety lapses that management should address.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The reviews for Parkland Manor are predominantly positive, with many reviewers praising the facility for its caring staff, strong housekeeping, and high cleanliness standards. Numerous comments describe staff as loving, kind, dedicated, and attentive; several reviewers explicitly state that their relatives are happy, feel respected, and receive good care. Housekeeping receives repeated, enthusiastic mention — one reviewer called it the cleanest facility they had visited, and a housekeeper named Bree is singled out for warm, personal interactions with residents. Dining receives favorable remarks as well, with descriptors like "delicious food" and a specific praise for a strawberry shortbread cake. Monthly church services and an accommodating attitude toward visitors are additional positives noted by multiple reviewers. Several reviewers conclude by recommending Parkland Manor and stating it exceeds a five-star rating in their view.

Care quality and staff: The dominant theme across the reviews is that many staff—especially CNAs and housekeepers—are compassionate and go beyond routine duties to make residents feel special. Specific roles are highlighted: CNAs are described as genuinely caring, and housekeeping staff are both thorough and personable. Administration is also reported as helpful by some reviewers, suggesting presence of supportive management. These positive reports are consistent and frequent, creating a clear pattern of resident-focused care in many accounts.

Facilities and cleanliness: Cleanliness is one of the most consistent compliments. Multiple reviewers emphasize that the facility is exceptionally clean and never smells bad; the phrase "cleanest home" appears more than once. This positive impression extends to overall hygiene and the sensory environment (no unpleasant odors) in most accounts. That said, there are isolated, highly negative comments that contradict this dominant pattern: a few reviewers report an unclean environment and even reference a "smell of death." Because the cleanliness feedback is otherwise strongly positive, these contradictory reports suggest either isolated incidents, differences by wing/room, or variability across shifts.

Dining and activities: Food quality is generally praised; reviewers describe the meals as good and specifically cite desserts (strawberry shortbread cake) as memorable. Activities receive less detailed coverage overall, but monthly church services are mentioned positively as a regular spiritual offering. The facility is also described as accommodating to visitors, which is relevant to family involvement and social engagement.

Negative reports and safety concerns: Despite the large body of favorable comments, several reviews include serious negative allegations that cannot be ignored. A subset of reviewers report witnessing abuse or neglect, including overtly aggressive actions (yelling at residents, physically grabbing an elderly person's chair), claims of residents being left to die, and removal of residents from the home. Other critiques include disinterested staff and poor care quality. These are not the majority of comments but are severe in nature and raise concerns about inconsistent care and safety. Because of the gravity of these allegations, they stand out strongly against the otherwise positive narrative and suggest possible variability in staff behavior, supervision, or isolated incidents that may not reflect the facility as a whole.

Patterns, contradictions, and implications: The reviews present a clear majority view that Parkland Manor provides compassionate care in a clean, well-run environment with good food and supportive staff. However, the existence of multiple, specific negative anecdotes—some involving alleged abuse, safety lapses, or unclean conditions—creates a notable contradiction. This pattern suggests the facility may deliver excellent care most of the time or in many units/shifts, while occasional incidents or particular staff members have caused serious negative experiences. The named positives (e.g., Bree, caring CNAs, supportive administration) contrast sharply with specific reports of rude or aggressive behavior, indicating possible inconsistency in staff training, oversight, or personnel changes.

Conclusion and considerations for prospective residents/families: Based on the review summaries, Parkland Manor appears to have many strong attributes—caring frontline staff, exceptional housekeeping, good dining, and positive family experiences—that make it highly recommended by multiple reviewers. At the same time, the presence of several severe allegations of abuse, safety concerns, and inconsistent care quality means prospective residents and families should perform due diligence. Recommended next steps for someone considering Parkland Manor would be: visit the facility multiple times (including different shifts), ask management about how they investigate and remediate complaints, request recent inspection reports and staffing ratios, ask to meet CNAs and housekeeping staff, and check references from current residents' families. The dominant impression is positive, but the isolated yet serious negative reports warrant careful inquiry and ongoing monitoring if you choose this facility.

    About Parkland Manor

Parkland Manor is a skilled nursing facility for residents who need a high level of care, and the place has room for about 78 people based on how many usually live there, and it's been managed by Washita Valley Investments since 2007 with Julie Justice running it since 2016, and she's also the main owner. The building covers several types of care, so people can find assisted living, independent living, memory care, short-term rehab for folks coming from the hospital, respite care, and even hospice or home health support, all in one place for those 55 and older who need help in a care home or retirement setting. The community offers services like meals and nutritional planning, help with therapies including physical, occupational, speech, and respiratory, and there's social services and counseling, and they say some pets are allowed which is nice for folks who want a companion. The nursing staff put in 5.84 hours per resident each day, which is more than most places in the state, and while nurse turnover is at 50%, that's a bit lower than the state's average. Parkland Manor's provider is certified for Medicare and has certified beds for care, it's a for-profit limited liability company and part of Elmbrook Management Company, and people can take tours if they're interested. There've been 14 deficiencies reported over inspections, and these include pharmacy service issues like not always providing the right pharmaceutical services or having a licensed pharmacist, plus some resident rights concerns like not keeping residents, families, or doctors informed in certain situations, though these didn't actually harm anyone but had the potential for more than minimal harm, so those are things the place has had to work on. While the place offers different living options and personalized care with a focus on a comfortable atmosphere, there isn't specific information listed about special services or unique features, though photos are available for people who want to see more.
