    Negligent staff, theft, poor communication

I appreciated the nice facility, kind nurses and skilled therapy, but overall my experience was unacceptable. I saw negligent staff, delayed pain meds and food trays left waiting, an unauthorized haircut, theft from my grandmother's purse, and they never contacted me after her death - she was moved to a funeral home and I was later overcharged. Because of the negligence and financial harm, I cannot recommend this place for long-term care despite some caring staff.

    Summary review

The reviews for Stilwell Nursing & Rehab are highly mixed, with a clear divide between strongly positive experiences and alarming negative incidents. Several reviewers praise individual caregivers, therapy services, and the facility environment, while others report serious lapses in basic care, communication, safety, and billing. This pattern suggests significant variability in resident experience that appears to depend on which staff or shifts are involved and on how management addresses issues.

Care quality and staff behavior are central themes. Positive comments highlight kind, loving, and committed nurses and staff, along with skilled therapy and rehabilitation services; some families describe the facility as fast, pleasant, and helpful, and say their loved ones received excellent care and were candidates for long-term placement. These accounts point to areas of strength — particularly in therapy/rehab and in interactions with certain caregivers — that make the facility attractive to some families.

Conversely, several reviews describe serious and unacceptable failures in care. Reported problems include negligent or “horrible” staff, little to no day-to-day care, and specific incidents such as an unauthorized haircut. Medication administration and daily assistance are also cited as problematic in some cases, with delayed pain medications by CNAs/CMAs and food trays left waiting by staff reported. These deficiencies directly affect resident comfort, dignity, and safety.

Safety, communication, and trust issues are among the most concerning patterns. Multiple reviewers reported a lack of communication from the facility — for example, no phone calls about a resident’s declining condition — and at least one family reported that they were not contacted after a resident’s death and later discovered the resident had been moved to a funeral home without notification. There are also allegations of theft from a resident’s purse and of overcharging bills after a loved one passed. These are serious accusations that raise questions about the facility’s procedures for communication, documentation, property security, and billing practices.

Facility environment and services receive mixed reactions. The building and therapy services are described positively by some, which supports the view that Stilwell can provide effective rehabilitation and a pleasant setting under the right circumstances. However, the inconsistent delivery of basic services (meals, timely medication, respectful handling of residents) undermines confidence in the facility’s ability to provide reliable, high-quality care across all shifts and departments.

Overall pattern and implications: the reviews point to a facility with notable strengths — compassionate nurses and effective therapy for some residents — but also with recurring, serious problems related to staff negligence, communication failures, safety/theft concerns, and billing irregularities. The sentiment is polarized: several families strongly endorse the facility for its care and staff, while others issue urgent warnings not to send loved ones there. Prospective residents and families should weigh the positive reports of therapy and caring staff against the documented instances of misconduct and lapses in basic care.

If considering Stilwell Nursing & Rehab, families should perform thorough due diligence: visit multiple times across different shifts, ask for details on medication administration protocols, property security measures, communication policies for condition changes and emergency notification, and billing practices after discharge or death. Request references, observe meal/service routines, and ask how management responds to complaints. The reviews indicate potential for both very good care and serious problems; decisions should be guided by direct observation and clear assurances about how the facility prevents and addresses the negative issues reported here.

    About Stilwell Nursing & Rehab

Stilwell Nursing & Rehabilitation sits over at 509 W Locust St in Stilwell, OK, and this place is what folks call a skilled nursing facility, open every hour of the day, so you never have to worry about when you can visit someone or when someone'll be there to help. They handle short-term rehab for people who need extra time to recover between a hospital stay and going back home, and they provide skilled nursing and intermediate care for the folks who can't manage without a lot of help. They accept Medicare and Medicaid, which means the costs might be easier for some. They have different choices for care, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, home care, adult day services, hospice, and home health care, and you can check out their website at stilwellnursingandrehab.com if you're looking to see what's new or want to arrange a tour, send an inquiry, or see if a room is available. If you look at the ratings, the quality measures and staffing come in a little below average, while the health inspections run about average, and their overall rating lands at 3.0, which says they're about middle of the pack compared to other places. Paul Gilbert is the main contact, while Gail Watson serves as RN, and they all work with the goal to glorify God by shepherding everyone who comes through consistent with the "Fruit of the Spirit," which some folks might appreciate if that's important to them. You can find driving directions if you're coming by for a visit, and you'll see the place has most of the usual features for a nursing and rehab facility, aiming to make people comfortable while they get the help and support they need, but like most nursing homes, it's got things that work well and some things that just work okay.
