    Friendly, affordable care with tradeoffs

I chose this place for the friendly, caring staff and warm residents - the team really goes above and beyond. The facility is clean, remodeled and attractive with lovely grounds, a koi pond, patio and nice common areas. Activities, outings and transportation to stores/appointments are available and helpful, though programming can be inconsistent after COVID and with staff turnover. Meals are hit-or-miss - some homemade and generous, other times lacking quality and protein. Apartments are small, with no stove/kitchenette in many units, but utilities and some services are included and it's affordable for the area. Maintenance and housekeeping are generally good but communication and occasional lapses happen. When my health declined I needed home health support; staff were supportive, and overall it's a safe, value-driven option if you can accept the tradeoffs.

    About Southern Hills Retirement Community

Southern Hills Retirement Community sits in midtown Tulsa, right near Lafortune Park and Lafortune Golf Course, and the place is pretty quiet and peaceful, especially with a koi pond and lots of green, which gives everybody a break from the city noise, and folks can watch the fish or gather with friends by the water. Residents pick from studios or one-bedroom homes, most of which come with kitchenettes, microwaves, refrigerators, climate controls, Wi-Fi, cable TV, phone, and their own outdoor space, and it's easy for people with wheelchairs to get around, both in their rooms and on the grounds, since there are accessible showers and ground floor units. Meals are served three times a day in the dining room, there's always something on the menu to suit special diets, and people can grab snacks and fresh fruit whenever they like, plus there's the option for private dining or room service if someone wants to eat in their own space.

The staff here are known for being helpful, kind, and always around when needed, especially for those who might need extra help with daily tasks, whether in assisted living, memory care, or independent living, and the aides can help with things like cleaning, laundry, and just checking in. The price covers most things, like utilities, housekeeping, maintenance, daily meals, salon visits, as well as phone, cable, and high-speed internet, and there are options for independent or assisted living, plus support for people with more complex health needs, and everything's under campus security's watch, including controlled building access and security guards.

There are all sorts of activities for residents to take part in, like arts and crafts, yoga, games, social programs, organized off-site trips, and even spiritual gatherings, so there's always something happening, whether that's chair fitness, billiards, or just reading a book in the library, and if people want to get out, there's shuttle transport for shopping or appointments. Pets are allowed, though there are restrictions, but there are plenty of places to walk them or just sit and enjoy the outdoors, especially since there's a courtyard, gazebos, grill patio, and even a hot tub spa for relaxing. There's also mail service, a bar lounge, computer rooms, a business center with copying and notary services, and guest parking. Southern Hills Retirement Community runs on an all-inclusive package, so most needs are covered in one price, trying to keep things comfortable and easy, and the environment is set up for making friends, staying active, and keeping every resident as healthy and engaged as possible.
