    Homey facility but safety concerns

I appreciated the clean, homey feel and many staff were friendly, compassionate, and welcoming - visits were easy at this small facility and some activities and meals were fine. However the building is older and care was inconsistent: staffing shortages, poor communication, rough handling and alarming safety/neglect incidents (falls, hygiene failures) left me deeply worried. I value several caregivers here, but I wouldn't recommend this place without clear improvements to safety and staffing.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment about Tuttle Care Center is mixed and polarized: a substantial number of reviewers report a clean, homey, and well-kept facility with compassionate, friendly, and responsive staff, while a smaller but significant group describes troubling incidents of neglect, safety problems, and poor management. Many families praise the atmosphere, individualized attention, and named staff members and administrators for kindness and effective communication. Conversely, multiple reviews recount serious lapses in care, hygiene failures, and lack of accountability that led to strong negative recommendations.

Care quality and safety: Reviews reveal a wide range in perceived clinical and personal care quality. Numerous reviews commend nurses, aides, and hospice staff for being attentive, compassionate, and respectful, and some describe very good physical therapy and rehabilitation. However, there are multiple, specific and severe allegations describing neglect (residents exposed in underwear, left sitting/lying in their own waste, poor hygiene, and even raw wounds), instances where residents were left on the floor after falls, and reports linking neglect to pneumonia and death. These safety-related complaints are serious and recur enough to be an important pattern. Several reviewers also noted inconsistent care across shifts, suggesting variability tied to staffing levels or individual caregivers.

Staffing, communication, and management: Many reviewers highlight individual staff and administrators by name, praising responsiveness (phone and in-person), genuine kindness, and helpfulness from directors of nursing and administrators (Nola, Jennifer, Terri, Lisa, and others). Several accounts describe a seamless transition into the facility and a comforting, family-like environment. At the same time, multiple reviewers describe staffing shortages, temporary staff, overworked employees, and rough or bullying behavior from management or specific supervisors. There are allegations of administrative misconduct (misrepresentation of resident status for workers' comp, pregnancy-related concerns) and reports of managers being overbearing or bullying. Communication appears to be generally good in many cases but inconsistent in others: some families received timely updates and felt peace of mind, while others reported unanswered questions, lack of explanations, or no outreach after serious incidents.

Facility, rooms, and cleanliness: The facility is frequently described as very clean, smelling fresh, and well-maintained despite being an older building. Reviewers repeatedly note a homey, non-sterile environment with small rooms and an older structure; many appreciate this cozy atmosphere but also call out the need for upgrades and increased funding to modernize rooms and common areas. Occasional odors are reported, typically tied to isolated incidents, but many reviewers also note constant cleaning efforts and lack of pests.

Dining and activities: Meal quality is a mixed theme. Several residents and family members praise the food as "real-food" and report that residents enjoy meals. Others describe occasions of low-budget, unappealing meals and point to negative attitudes among some kitchen staff. Activities are generally described positively in many reviews — staff engage residents, there are designated visiting/sitting areas, and many residents appear happy and busy. A minority of reviews claim there are very few activities or limited programming, reinforcing the sense of variability between experiences.

Patterns and notable contrasts: Two clear patterns emerge. First, many reviews reflect consistently positive interpersonal experiences tied to particular staff members and administrators; these accounts emphasize compassion, competence, and a welcoming culture, and they often mention specific employees by name. Second, a smaller but alarming cluster of reviews contains severe allegations of neglect, safety lapses, and poor outcomes, sometimes including death and lack of family communication. The coexistence of these polarized reports suggests inconsistency in care quality that may correlate with staffing levels, shift differences, or isolated managerial problems.

Bottom line: Tuttle Care Center demonstrates strengths in cleanliness, a home-like atmosphere, caring staff (with several staff members and administrators singled out for praise), convenient location for families, and generally supportive therapy and hospice services. However, recurring and serious negative reports — including neglect, safety incidents, hygiene failures, poor handling, and alleged managerial misconduct — are significant red flags. Prospective families should weigh the frequent positive testimonials about individual staff and the facility’s environment against the documented concerns about inconsistent care and safety. It would be prudent to visit in person, ask about staffing ratios, turnover, fall-prevention and wound-care protocols, recent corrective actions for reported incidents, and to check references from current families to better understand how consistent the positive experiences are across shifts and over time.

    About Tuttle Care Center

Tuttle Care Center is a skilled nursing and rehabilitation home where nurses and staff help with things like moving from a bed to a wheelchair, getting dressed, managing medications, and checking insulin for diabetes. Staff are on-site and ready to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day. The center cares for people who need long-term help, those recovering from injury or surgery, and even folks who need temporary breaks through respite care, including hospice services for comfort and support when facing serious illness. Residents get three meals every day in the dining room or brought to their rooms, so there's no need to cook, and folks can visit the beauty salon, use the Wi-Fi, or relax in either private or semi-private rooms equipped with electric beds.

The care here covers wound care, pain management, tracheostomy care, IV therapy, and help for people with cardiac problems, respiratory illness, or those recovering from strokes and joint replacements. Nurses visit regularly, and there's a rapid response team focused on keeping everyone safe, supporting both mental and physical health. The center offers physical, occupational, and speech therapy for short or long stays, as well as nutritional guidance, and there's always someone to talk to for emotional needs. The activities include group programs and cognitive-based events meant to keep minds and bodies active, and community rooms give folks space to socialize and relax together. Residents' families take part in care decisions alongside staff, and all services are designed to match each person's individual needs.

With 52 units, the center offers enough space for people to have privacy while still enjoying a friendly and warm environment. There's private van transportation, help with all daily living tasks, and support for stroke or surgery recovery. The administrator, Nola Jones, leads a team that pays close attention to comfort, safety, and personalized care. Residents also have mental health help available and benefit from a collaborative approach to healthcare. The whole place aims to feel like home, helping people stay as independent and comfortable as possible, while making sure family members feel supported and involved in every part of care.
