    Clean, welcoming senior home; cozy

I visited this small, homey senior facility and found it extremely clean, airy and welcoming - pleasant dining area, outdoor seating, activities and smiling residents. The staff were consistently friendly, knowledgeable and caring, and the place felt safe and well cared for. Downsides: rooms are small (mostly private), some lack in-room showers, and staffing seemed limited at times (I observed only one nurse and heard about maintenance issues). Overall I'd recommend it for a warm, well-kept, country setting if you can accept smaller rooms and occasional staffing constraints.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment from the reviews of The Corrigan House is predominantly positive, with numerous comments praising the staff, cleanliness, and homelike atmosphere. Many reviewers described the staff as friendly, knowledgeable, and compassionate, with several specific accounts of staff going above and beyond and being helpful during transitions such as move-in, move-out, and post-surgery respite stays. The facility is family-owned and smaller in size, which several reviewers felt created a safe, personal, and well-cared-for environment that they would recommend for short- or long-term stays.

Care quality and staffing emerge as one of the most commonly discussed themes. Positive comments highlight experienced and caring nurses and attentive staff who foster social connections among residents. However, a recurring concern is limited staffing. Multiple reviewers noted seeing only one nurse or described staffing levels as insufficient, which led to comments about limited staff interaction at times. Prospective families should be aware that the small, intimate nature of the home that contributes to its positive atmosphere may also coincide with lean staffing patterns during some shifts.

Facility condition and layout receive consistent praise for cleanliness and a well-kept appearance. Many reviews emphasize that rooms and common areas are very clean, smell fresh, and are well maintained. The facility is described as open, airy, and homey, with multiple seating areas, a cozy dining area with a restaurant-like feel, and outdoor seating in a pleasant country setting. Most rooms are private and some have attached bathrooms, while furniture flexibility and spacious common areas were noted positively. Conversely, several reviewers flagged drawbacks related to physical plant and room amenities: rooms were called small by multiple reviewers, many rooms lack in-room showers, and at least one review mentioned bathrooms in disrepair. A few reviewers also reported a strong smell on one visit and noted a lack of curb appeal or even no sign out front.

Activities, dining, and amenities are described in mixed terms. The dining area is generally viewed positively for cleanliness and ambiance, and there are reports of residents engaging in board games and social activities. However, activity frequency appears limited for some reviewers, with mentions of activities occurring only a couple times a month. One reviewer noted that meals were not served during their visit, creating uncertainty about meal service consistency. On the amenity side, conveniences such as an on-site hairdresser and proximity to restaurants and stores are called out as benefits.

Management and logistics reflect the small, family-run character of the home. Several reviewers praised the management and ownership for being accommodating and attentive, recommending the facility and citing positive experiences across stays of varied lengths. The smaller size and separate buildings for different care levels were seen as strengths by many, contributing to a personalized feel. At the same time, that same small scale appears linked to a few of the negatives—limited staff availability, occasionally unavailable tours, and at least one reviewer who was not impressed and would not recommend the facility. There was also at least one comment about the facility being a significant drive for a family member.

In sum, The Corrigan House is depicted by most reviewers as a clean, caring, and welcoming small home with personable staff and a cozy, home-like environment. The main patterns of concern are staffing levels and some facility limitations such as room size, lack of in-room showers, and occasional maintenance or smell issues. For prospective residents and families, the reviews suggest strong positives around individualized care, cleanliness, and a warm atmosphere, but also recommend asking specific questions about staffing ratios, the condition of bathrooms, frequency of activities, meal service, and the availability of tours before committing.

    About The Corrigan House

The Corrigan House is a family-owned and operated senior living community that's been serving Hazleton, Pennsylvania, since 2000, and you get a place where folks focus on comfort, safety, and a sense of belonging, because this place really feels like a big house more than a facility, and it's got a cozy, home-like atmosphere where residents and staff know each other by name, and family recipes make up the three meals a day, and there's always plenty of activities, whether it's arts and crafts, gardening, brain fitness, or just movie night with friends in the common room. The Corrigan House offers different styles of living, with assisted living, independent living, memory care, and residential care options, so people who are mostly independent but need a little help can get assistance with things like bathing, dressing, medication reminders, and laundry, and those with dementia or Alzheimer's get extra support from caring, trained staff all day and all night, because sometimes people need more care and structure in a memory care environment, and the staff here know how to handle that with patience and respect. Residents can bring their dogs and cats, choose among rooms with different views or even ground floor units, and enjoy the garden or walk the outdoor paths if they want some fresh air, because being surrounded by nature brings comfort and peace, and if it's raining, there's a small indoor library, a beauty salon, a TV room, and places to sit and chat.

Meal times happen in a restaurant-style dining room where people can talk and relax, and if someone's got a dietary restriction, like a need for a diabetic or allergy-friendly menu, the staff make sure everyone can eat safely. There's always 24-hour staff ready to answer calls or respond in emergencies, and the place stays clean thanks to regular housekeeping and laundry services, with private cleaning and dry cleaning available as needed, and maintenance gets handled without fuss, so people don't have to worry about repairs or chores. Health care support includes things like incontinence care, non-ambulatory care, and help with daily living activities, and there's also specialized care for veterans, people needing hospice or palliative care, and folks who benefit from therapy-like physical, speech, occupational, or even yoga therapy sessions-so each resident gets a care plan that fits just right.

Plenty of activities fill the week, from devotional gatherings to offsite trips for shopping or doctor's visits, and things like gardening clubs, art classes, stretching sessions, and live musical performances keep people as busy or as relaxed as they want to be, and there are places for parties and community events. Rooms come furnished, with air conditioning, a kitchenette, cable TV, a phone, and plenty of natural light, so residents stay connected and comfortable, and Wi-Fi works all around the building for folks who want to read the news or video chat with family. The Corrigan House welcomes short-term stays and respite care, which is helpful for families who need a break or for someone recovering from a hospital visit. All utilities, cable, and phone are included in one monthly fee to make things simple.

The Corrigan House's location on the edge of Hazleton in a rural but convenient spot means it's peaceful outside, yet stores and amenities aren't far away, and there's always someone to help coordinate a move-in. The goal here is to support older adults in living well by offering them individual attention, emotional support, companionship, and a chance to keep making memories with others who share the journey, so people feel comfortable, cared for, and a part of a family, whether they've come for a little help or a lot of care.
