    Neglectful facility despite social activities

I appreciated that they keep couples together and the apartments, activities (games, barbecues, crafts) and central visiting area are good. But staffing is shaky, communication is poor, and same-room staff often seem ignorant - care is only fair at best. My loved one suffered a transfer injury that left a wound and I believe a doctor referral was malpractice; I felt they were neglected and openly devalued because of age. Strong warning: do not send your loved ones here.

    Summary review

Overall impression: The reviews for Golden LivingCenter - Murrysville are sharply mixed and strongly polarized. Some reviewers praise the facility’s physical environment, activities, and policies that keep couples together, even going so far as to highly recommend the center. Other reviewers report serious concerns, including alleged malpractice and an injury sustained during a transfer, and they issue very strong warnings against placing loved ones there. The contrast between these positive and negative accounts suggests significant inconsistency in resident experience and care quality.

Care quality and safety: A central and alarming theme in the negative reviews is care and safety problems. Specific allegations include malpractice and a transfer-related bed injury that caused a wound, and more generally a perception of neglect toward elderly residents. Multiple reviewers describe care as "only fair" or otherwise not good. These accounts indicate potential lapses in safe handling and resident transfer protocols, as well as inconsistent clinical oversight. At least one comment that mentions a doctor referral suggests some level of medical coordination for some residents, but the coexistence of malpractice allegations and praise for medical referrals underscores a divided experience among families.

Staff behavior and communication: Staff performance and interpersonal interactions are another recurrent area of concern. Several summaries describe staff as "ignorant," devaluing patients because of age, and providing poor communication. Visitors also reported barriers to visitation, which can exacerbate family frustration and reduce transparency. These issues point to problems with staff training, resident dignity and respect, and potentially with management practices around family engagement. Shaky staffing levels were specifically noted; understaffing or frequent turnover can degrade both competence and communication, and can help explain the inconsistent reports of care quality.

Facilities, activities, and living arrangements: On the positive side, reviewers consistently mention that the center and apartments are good and that activities are available and varied — examples include games, barbeques, and crafts. The facility’s practice of keeping couples together in the same room is frequently cited as a valuable feature and is part of why some reviewers strongly recommend the center. These facility-level strengths appear consistent and meaningful for residents’ quality of life when other aspects of care are functioning well.

Management and patterns: The reviews suggest a pattern of inconsistent performance across multiple domains—clinical safety, interpersonal staff behavior, and administrative policies like visitation. The combination of positive comments about physical environment and activities with serious allegations about care and safety suggests that management may be succeeding at maintaining a pleasant living environment while struggling with clinical and staffing challenges. The presence of both glowing recommendations and urgent warnings indicates variability that may depend on particular units, shifts, or staff members.

Advice for prospective families: Given the mixed but serious nature of complaints, prospective residents and families should investigate further before making placements. Important follow-ups include asking about staffing ratios and turnover, requesting incident and injury records or how the facility reports and responds to adverse events, observing staff-resident interactions during visits, clarifying visitation policies, and verifying transfer and mobility assistance protocols. Talking with current residents’ families and requesting specifics about medical oversight (e.g., how doctor referrals are handled and which physicians or nurse practitioners regularly cover the facility) can help clarify whether the positive experiences reported by some families are likely to be replicated.

Bottom line: Golden LivingCenter - Murrysville shows clear strengths in its physical environment, apartment accommodations, social activities, and couple-friendly rooming. However, serious and recurring concerns around safety (including one reported transfer injury), perceived neglect, staff attitude, communication, and unstable staffing create a risk that care quality will be inconsistent. The facility may meet the needs of some residents very well, but the severity of negative reports means families should perform detailed, targeted due diligence focused on staffing, safety protocols, and family access before deciding.
