    Pleasant facility with staffing concerns

I moved my mom in and overall I'm pleased-apartments are spacious and spotless, staff are friendly, 24-hour medical help is available, and it's good value so she's safe and happy. Downsides: chronic staff shortages and the food has declined since COVID (service can be poor). Management changes have noticeably improved care and cleanliness, but beware Arrowood (not certified) - we left after a week. I'd recommend this place with reservations.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the provided reviews is mixed to generally positive, with a number of consistent strengths and a few recurring concerns. Most reviewers praise the facility’s location, apartment sizes, and cleanliness — several comments describe the apartments as spacious and lovely and note that the facility is kept clean, with at least one reviewer citing explicit improvement in cleanliness over time. Multiple reviewers emphasize that the community represents good value for the price and that residents (or their family members) feel safe and happy living there. A frequently mentioned operational strength is the availability of 24-hour medical assistance, which supports a sense of safety among residents and families.

Care quality and staff impressions lean positive but are nuanced. Many comments call staff friendly and caring, and a change in management is specifically credited with improving care and addressing cleanliness issues. Those positive notes are balanced by reports of staff shortages, which several reviewers cite as a problem. The staffing concerns suggest variability in day-to-day service levels and may be a contributing factor to some of the inconsistent experiences reported by families. There is also a recurring mention that some residents require showers or additional assistance — reviewers imply that such personal-care needs should be verified with the facility, since dependence on staff availability can affect the resident experience.

Facility and apartment attributes are among the strongest themes: reviewers consistently note spacious units and a clean environment, which they often pair with comments about the overall value proposition. These tangible attributes (apartment size, cleanliness, perceived safety) form a core reason many reviewers would recommend Arrowood or have confidence in placing a family member there.

Dining is the most frequently cited operational weakness. Several reviewers say meals were very good initially but declined after COVID; others describe the food service as poor or even ‘‘terrible.’’ This decline appears widespread enough to be a notable pattern in the reviews. While a few reviews recall positive earlier experiences with dining, the trend described is one of diminished meal quality and inconsistent food service since the pandemic period.

A few serious concerns surface in the reviews that prospective residents and family members should note and verify. One reviewer stated the facility was ‘‘not certified’’ for a resident’s needs and that the facility should not have accepted that resident; that family moved their loved one out after a week and strongly did not recommend Arrowood. This raises a regulatory and placement-appropriateness red flag that contrasts with other reviewers who happily recommend the community. Management changes were cited as a positive by some, but the certification/placement issue indicates that verification of licensure, care level capabilities, and admission criteria is advisable.

In summary, the dominant themes are positive impressions of the physical environment (location, cleanliness, apartment size), a generally friendly staff and 24-hour medical coverage, and good value for the price. Counterbalancing these strengths are recurrent operational concerns: ongoing staff shortages, a clear decline and inconsistency in meal quality since COVID, and at least one serious report regarding certification/appropriate admission. Reviews overall skew toward recommendation, but because of the mixed reports — especially around food service, staffing stability, and a potential regulatory lapse — prospective residents and families should confirm current staffing levels, dining services, management/ownership status, and the facility’s certification and admissions criteria before making a placement decision.

    About The Residence at Arrowood

The Residence at Arrowood offers a comfortable place for seniors to live, with a warm and friendly atmosphere where people seem to know each other and look out for each other, which you don't always see these days. The staff act helpful and kind, and you'll notice folks laughing in the common areas, whether they're playing games, reading in the library, or joining in on a cooking class or a live music event, and there's a steady calendar of activities that gives everyone something to look forward to, whether it's a happy hour or a devotional service held both on-site and off-site by visiting chaplains or priests from different faith traditions. The community sits near doctors, pharmacies, cafes, and parks, so it's practical for family visits or a short outing, and they offer transportation for errands or appointments. There are several care options including independent living for more active older adults, memory care with added safety for those dealing with Alzheimer's or dementia, assisted living for those who need help with daily tasks like bathing or managing medicines, and skilled nursing for folks who need long-term or post-acute care, which includes a RecoverWell program to help people get back on their feet after illness or injury.

The staff provides care 24 hours a day, helping with everything from dressing to medication, and they pay attention to special health needs like diabetes, non-ambulatory conditions, and incontinence, using a personal approach so each person gets what they need without confusing routines. Meals come from a professional chef who works to make them both nutritious and good tasting, which isn't always easy, and they do offer meals for guests along with a restaurant-style dining room, so it feels more social. Apartments have air-conditioning and are handicap accessible; they allow cats and dogs, which means people don't have to leave their pets behind. There's Wi-Fi throughout for those who want it, plus a range of other amenities like a wellness spa, fitness room, cable TV, and game room, and you can always find someone to talk to in the indoor or outdoor common areas.

Spiritual life matters here, so Catholic and Protestant services are offered, often with visiting chaplains; if someone's interested in other faiths, they help make arrangements. The community uses a scoring system to keep families informed about safety, and there's a 24-hour Compliance Line people can call for concerns about care, which helps give people peace of mind. Private rooms aim for calm and restful nights, and the place does its best to welcome all, not discriminating by race, color, origin, age, disability, or other status. There's recognition for good work through Best of Senior Living and All-Star awards, but people seem not to make a big fuss about it. Daily life includes educational speakers, group fitness, outings, and wellness programs that encourage staying active in any way that feels comfortable. All in all, The Residence at Arrowood tries to make the routines of living easier, safe, and more pleasant, even on tough days, so people can focus more on friends, interests, and just feeling at home.
