    Beautiful well-kept campus and community

I'm a long-time resident and very happy here - beautiful, well-kept campus and apartments, resort-style amenities (gym, pool, activities), excellent, caring staff and quick maintenance, and a true continuum of care that gives me peace of mind. Dining is generally excellent and there are endless social and volunteer opportunities; neighbors and staff feel like family. A few drawbacks - costs are high and I've seen occasional food/menu changes, staffing hiccups or communication lapses - but overall I highly recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the review summaries is strongly positive: the majority of reviewers praise Masonic Village at Sewickley for its high‑quality campus, comprehensive amenities, strong community feel, and a caring staff. The property is repeatedly described as beautifully maintained with lush landscaping, walking paths, modern apartments and villas, and well‑appointed common areas. Residents routinely cite a resort‑style environment — pools, state‑of‑the‑art fitness facilities, art studio, salon, library and a variety of gathering spaces — that supports active, engaged senior living.

Staff and service quality are among the most frequently lauded aspects. Reviewers consistently emphasize courteous, friendly and responsive employees in dining, maintenance, housekeeping, administration and nursing. Many accounts note staff going above and beyond, quick maintenance responses, diligent housekeeping and an overall helpful attitude from management and frontline teams. Long‑term residents and family members frequently comment on strong staff‑resident relationships, compassionate care in memory support and skilled nursing, and staff initiatives during crisis periods (for example, pandemic response). The administration is commonly described as accessible and supportive, with renovation projects achieved with minimal disruption.

Dining and food service receive high praise in many summaries: reviewers use terms like "exquisite," "scrumptious" and "dining above par," and highlight plentiful, varied menus, fresh ingredients and attentive dining staff who remember preferences. That said, a minority of reviews raise concerns about changes in meal quality or menu decisions, and a few individuals — including some with dementia care concerns — report dissatisfaction with food. These mixed comments indicate that while the overall culinary program is a strong selling point, consistency and dietary accommodation may be areas for continuous attention.

Activities, social life and programming form another core strength. The community offers a broad calendar: fitness classes, music workshops, lifelong learning lectures, parties, craft groups, ping‑pong/pool, chapel services, library programming, volunteer opportunities and organized trips. Reviewers repeatedly emphasize opportunities to form friendships and maintain active social lives, describing the community as "family‑like" with plentiful chances to participate or simply observe. Pastoral and faith‑based services are also noted as meaningful for many residents.

Clinical care and the life‑care continuum are described positively overall — reviewers appreciate on‑site nursing, memory care, rehabilitation and the security that life‑care contracts provide. Several long‑term and family accounts describe excellent care quality in the health center and memory unit. However, there are notable exceptions: a small number of reviews report negative clinical experiences such as poor care coordination, inadequate PT/OT services, a premature discharge before therapy goals were met, missed home evaluations and isolation related to infection control. These reports are less frequent but important because they contrast sharply with the prevailing positive narrative and warrant attention from clinical leadership.

Operationally, the community is credited with strong maintenance, cleanliness, and renovation projects that modernize the campus. At the same time, reviewers mention practical concerns: occasional power outages, periodic staffing shortages (accentuated during COVID), spot problems with odor or cleanliness in specific areas, and isolated instances of less‑than‑helpful staff attitudes. A few reviewers referenced management transitions or perceived instability, and one common resident request is more weekend shuttle transportation and improved access to nearby shopping (some noting the campus feels somewhat isolated from retail areas).

Cost and value perceptions vary: many residents consider the community worth the expense given amenities, security and continuum of care; others label it expensive and raise affordability concerns. A small number of reviewers also pointed out administrative details such as mapping/location issues (Google Maps) and occasional privacy concerns. These are minority issues but recurrent enough to be noted.

In summary, Masonic Village at Sewickley is portrayed as a premier, well‑maintained life‑care community with outstanding amenities, highly regarded staff, an active program of social and wellness activities, and an environment that provides safety, peace of mind and strong relationships. The dominant themes are quality of place, engaged staff, excellent dining and rich programming. Areas to monitor and improve — based on reviewer feedback — include ensuring consistent clinical coordination (particularly for rehab transitions), maintaining dining consistency for all residents (including those with dementia), addressing intermittent staffing/operational glitches, enhancing weekend transportation, and continuing vigilance on cleanliness in all spaces. Overall, the reviews depict a community that meets or exceeds expectations for most residents while highlighting targeted opportunities to strengthen a few operational and clinical aspects.

    About Masonic Village at Sewickley

Masonic Village at Sewickley sits on more than 60 acres and has different care levels like skilled nursing, assisted living, Alzheimer's care, and personal care services, and even offers home health and hospice for people who want to age in place or need temporary help after an illness, and there's a LifeCare model which lets people keep their monthly fee steady even as their health care needs change, so it's something a lot of folks find reassuring as they get older and start needing more help. The campus includes retirement apartments, upgraded villas, and brand new nursing and personal care buildings that try to balance privacy with the help people sometimes need, and the staff keeps things moving with activities, intergenerational programs, social and recreational events, religious services, and holiday gatherings so there's always a reason to get out of your apartment or safely enjoy a common area.

The Barley Wellness Center is where people go for physical, occupational, and speech therapies with good equipment and professional staff, and those who want to stay active can work out there or join lifelong learning and club activities, which are hosted all over the property, so it doesn't really matter what hobbies or preferences someone has; there tends to be a group for it or a spot to do it. Masonic Village at Sewickley has two restaurants and an evening pub for dining, and there's a general store, computer center, woodshop, gardening plots, and more, all connected to a library and hair salon if someone wants to keep routines simple and on campus, which most folks eventually do.

For people living with Alzheimer's disease or another dementia, there are secured neighborhoods and memory support services for safety and comfort, with spaces made for engagement and support. The facility also includes outdoor spaces and age-appropriate playground equipment to support intergenerational activities with the on-site child care center, giving residents opportunities to connect with children and join joint programs, and younger visitors can help put a little spark in people's days. Services get tailored to residents' needs, whether someone's getting short-term rehab, using the pharmacy, or taking part in birthday parties and other events. Because it's Medicare and Medicaid approved, there are flexible options for a lot of families, and the campus map and brochure help people sort out all the choices. Masonic Village at Sewickley doesn't hide away from the fact it's a big place with a lot going on, and some people might like that, while others prefer it quiet, but it's always been a part of the Masonic Villages of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania, and it was listed among America's Best Nursing Homes in 2025, so it does have a steady place in the community.
