    Attentive staff, beautiful resort-like facility

I placed my mother here and I'm very pleased - the staff are amazing, attentive and genuinely caring, treating residents like family and often going above and beyond. The facility is beautiful, clean and resort-like with private apartments, enclosed grounds and a huge variety of activities (bingo, karaoke, live music, crafts, exercise, outings) that keep residents engaged and independent; memory care felt compassionate and structured. Meals are generally good (cook-to-order breakfasts) though some find them too spicy and could be improved, and a few people reported front-desk/administrative hiccups - so do your due diligence. Overall I feel confident in the daily care and would recommend this community.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is mixed but leans positive in several key areas. Many reviewers repeatedly praise the staff, describing them as attentive, caring, and family-like. Staff behaviors highlighted include going above and beyond (staying after shifts, attending family funerals, providing extra emotional support) and frequent direct communication with families. The facility itself is consistently described as beautiful, resort-like, and often brand-new — with several reviewers comparing it to a 5-star hotel. Cleanliness and maintenance receive repeated positive mention, as do features like enclosed outdoor spaces, separate entrances for rooms, and secure grounds.

Care quality and staffing are central themes with contrasting reports. A large number of reviews emphasize excellent daily care, friendliness, and effective, timely medication administration. The dementia/memory-care unit also receives praise from many reviewers for its programming and appropriate environment. However, there are serious and specific negative allegations in other reviews: reports of wrong medication doses, non-licensed staff administering medications, and cited health violations. These safety-related claims are among the most significant concerns in the dataset and stand in sharp contrast to other accounts of dependable care. The coexistence of glowing staff testimonials and severe safety complaints suggests variability in staff performance or in specific shifts/units; families should treat these contradictions as reasons to investigate further before deciding.

Facility amenities and atmosphere are prominent strengths. Reviewers commonly note a resort-like, posh environment with numerous social and recreational options. Activities and entertainment are highlighted as outstanding and diverse: Bingo, karaoke, crafts, structured exercise, outings, live music, grand piano visits, Wine Wednesdays and Happy Hour events are frequently mentioned. These offerings contribute to residents feeling engaged, independent, and happy, and several reviewers explicitly state residents are thriving socially. Memory-care offerings receive both praise for certain programs and suggestions for more targeted activities in other comments, indicating opportunity for program refinement in that unit.

Dining receives generally favorable comments but with some variability. Many reviewers appreciate well-balanced meals and a cook-to-order breakfast; others find the food delicious and pleasing. Still, there are a handful of comments that the food could be improved or is too spicy for some residents. Dining experience therefore appears positive for most but not universally consistent.

Management, communication and administrative issues are mixed and merit caution. Several reviews commend staff and management for clear, constant communication and courteous leadership (including praise for the head nurse). Yet other reviewers report poor front-desk responsiveness, lack of follow-up, perceived petty administration, visitation restrictions, and an impression that management can be money-focused. Ongoing construction on-site is also mentioned, which could affect first impressions or short-term resident experience. A few reviewers said these administrative concerns influenced their decision to choose or reject Highland Park, and one mentioned selecting an alternative facility after a negative interaction.

Cost and contract terms show divergent perceptions. Some reviews emphasize affordability, no buy-in requirements, and inclusive furniture, while at least one review described the facility as expensive. Room configurations range from private to semi-private, and some noted that certain units felt less spacious than competitors. Location was a deterrent for at least one family, indicating that practical logistics remain a consideration for some prospects.

Recommendations based on the review patterns: tour the campus in person and ask specific questions about medication administration procedures and staff licensing; request recent health inspection reports and documentation addressing any past violations; inquire about front-desk and family-communication protocols; confirm the current status and schedule of construction; review sample menus and observe a meal; and ask for details and examples of memory-care programming. In summary, Highland Park Senior Living receives strong praise for staff warmth, facility quality, and robust activities and social life, but families should investigate the documented safety and administrative concerns thoroughly to ensure a consistent and safe match for their loved one.
