    Resort-like community, attentive staff, pricey

I toured and moved my mom into this beautiful, resort-like, single-story community and overall I'm very pleased - it's spotless, warm and homey, with attentive, caring staff, excellent activities, good meals, and strong memory-care programming. Staff usually communicate well and involve families, and the social life/amenities (salon, outings, music) are excellent. Caveats: it's on the pricey side, the layout can be confusing with long walks, and there have been occasional staffing/turnover issues, weekend lapses, and isolated reports of poor responsiveness - I recommend a weekend visit and asking about staffing consistency (and room monitoring) before deciding.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews for Pelican Bay Assisted Living Community is predominantly positive, with many family members and residents praising the facility's staff, environment, and activity programming. Repeated strengths are the friendliness and genuine caring attitude of caregivers and leadership, regular communication with families, and a strong, attentive Memory Care Director. Multiple reviewers noted that staff keep families well informed, arrange doctor appointments and transportation, and provide coordinated and safe care. Several reviews describe residents as feeling pampered, well-cared-for, and content in their apartments.

Facility and amenities receive high marks: Pelican Bay is frequently described as clean, new or recently updated, and resort-like with elegant decor, pleasant smells, and well-kept common areas. Apartments are praised for being spacious and home-like, often allowing residents to bring their own furniture. On-site amenities cited include an activity center, beauty shop for hair and nails, an on-site movie theater, a central garden and enclosed courtyard area, and restaurant-style dining. Many reviewers highlight an active social life — robust monthly activity calendars, live music, holiday celebrations, parties, outings in the community, and special performances — which contributes to a lively, homey atmosphere and new friendships among residents.

Care quality and memory care programming are described as strengths by many reviewers. The memory care area is repeatedly called 'top-notch' or 'supervised' with attentive staff and better tracking due to smaller staff-to-resident ratios in some cases. Several families noted specific staff members (including med techs and the Memory Care Director) by name and expressed high confidence in their competence. Additionally, the facility’s approach to family communication and responsiveness is repeatedly cited as a comfort to relatives, with prompt callbacks and staff who are informed about residents’ needs.

Despite the many positives, there are notable and recurring concerns that prospective residents and families should consider. A small but significant number of reviewers reported problems with staff professionalism — particularly in front-office interactions — and inconsistencies in service quality, especially on weekends. A few reviews allege undertrained caregivers and lapses in clinical follow-up, including at least one report describing serious health issues (fever, dehydration, infection) and insufficient follow-up communication. Food quality and portion sizes produced mixed feedback; some loved the meals while others called them poor and small. Administrative friction also appears in a few accounts (threats of fines, complaints to the state, and a reported hospital/EMS readmission denial incident), suggesting occasional operational or regulatory challenges.

Other practical concerns include the facility’s internal layout (long walking distances and confusing navigation for some), occasional staff turnover which may affect continuity of care, and cost — a number of reviewers consider Pelican Bay to be on the expensive side despite calling it high-end. A couple of reviewers recommended additional privacy/surveillance considerations (e.g., cameras) based on isolated negative experiences. Finally, while many praised the tour and admissions experience, at least one prospective family noted limited access during tours which restricted their ability to fully evaluate all areas.

In summary, Pelican Bay Assisted Living Community appears to be a clean, well-appointed, activity-rich community with many families strongly endorsing the quality of care, memory programs, and staff compassion. The dominant themes are strong family communication, a lively social program, and attentive memory care. However, there are intermittent reports of administrative or clinical lapses, inconsistent weekend staffing, occasional unprofessional interactions, and concerns about food and cost. Prospective residents and families should weigh the many positive reports about staff and amenities against the smaller set of serious concerns, and consider visiting more than once (including on a weekend) and asking targeted questions about clinical oversight, staffing patterns, food service, and complaint resolution before making a decision.

About Pelican Bay Assisted Living Community

Pelican Bay Assisted Living Community sits in Beaumont, Texas, where things move a bit slower, offering seniors a peaceful setting with pretty views of the LNVA Canal and acres of trees and open green spaces, and from what folks say, you can really feel that relaxed, semi-rural feel when you walk through the doors where stone accents, big windows, and a lot of natural light make the place feel more like an upscale retreat than a facility. The building has only one floor, which helps with getting around, especially for those using wheelchairs, and there's customer parking right on site, which sure makes visits easier for family and friends.

This community is part of SeniorLiving.com's network, and it acts as a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) where seniors can live as independently as they want but find more help if they need it later on, so some residents just enjoy the independent living suites, while others use the assisted living and memory care services for help with daily support or for safe, specialized memory care in a secure area for those with Alzheimer's or dementia. They do allow pets, which brings a lot of comfort to residents, and you'll find a variety of suites, both private and shared, for more living choice.

When it comes to care, the staff provides personal assistance that's tailored to each resident-so some folks just get a little help with bathing or medication, while others need more hands-on nursing oversight or have personalized plans for memory care. There's a skilled nursing facility right on campus for residents who need more medical care, so there's no need to move if health needs change over time, and you can switch between care levels all in the same place.

The grounds and inside spaces have comfortable areas to relax, like a library, TV lounge, craft room, barber and beauty shop, private dining room for family gatherings, and several outdoor spots for fishing or having picnics when it's nice outside. Residents have access to all sorts of activities, including fitness programs, wellness classes, outings, and social events that change monthly-there's almost always something to do, whether it's games, devotional services, hobby groups, or just enjoying the company of neighbors.

Meals are included and are made to fit various diets, including options for vegetarians and those who need kosher foods, with snacks and drinks available and the goal being to keep meals both healthy and enjoyable. On top of this, the staff handles housekeeping, laundry, and linen services so residents can focus on what matters most to them.

There's an emergency response system and transportation is available for doctor's visits and outings, which makes things easier and safer. The place welcomes visiting families and children, and the environment is described as cozy, warm, clean, and friendly, with staff who get to know the residents pretty well.

Overall, Pelican Bay offers seniors a safe place to live with many choices in care and a strong focus on each person getting the attention and support they need to stay as independent and fulfilled as possible.
