    Neglectful, dishonest, unsafe nursing home

I will not recommend this place. Management and many nurses were uncaring, dishonest and money-driven - my loved one suffered neglect (bedsores, lost dentures, ignored diet/medical orders), poor medical care, pest problems, rude/unprofessional staff, and even police involvement. A few direct-care staff were kind and dedicated, but the toxic leadership and unsafe practices left me heartbroken and pursuing legal action.

    Summary review

The reviews for Birchwood of Beeville are highly polarized, with a sharp divide between reviewers who describe genuinely caring, competent staff and those who report serious lapses in medical care, safety, and professional behavior. Positive comments frequently highlight direct care staff who are attentive, kind, and dedicated, with reviewers mentioning personalized meal accommodations, helpful therapy services, a comforting atmosphere, and a well-regarded memory care neighborhood in some accounts. Several reviewers explicitly stated they would recommend the facility and praised what they described as a strong team dynamic and improvements under newer ownership.

Counterbalancing the positive accounts are multiple, strongly worded negative reports that raise significant safety and ethical concerns. These include allegations that management or the director lied about incidents, lost residents' personal items (such as dentures and blankets), failed to follow physician diet orders resulting in weight gain or other medical risk, and ignored dietary restrictions. Reviewers also cited situations that pose direct health risks — choking hazards, heart condition risk, bedsores (even if later treated in at least one case), and residents getting sick while in the facility. Some accounts go further to allege that the facility prioritizes revenue over resident welfare, has staff who are rude or unprofessional, and that family members were threatened with guardianship or felt compelled to pursue legal action.

Several reviews point to systemic problems that may indicate inconsistency across shifts, units, or time periods: reports of attentive, engaged caregivers exist alongside accounts of neglectful or uncaring staff. Dining experiences were described variably — some residents had personalized meals and acceptable food, while others described poor quality meals and specific unappetizing items. Pest issues were raised repeatedly by some reviewers, including inadequate extermination responses. The memory care unit is another area of mixed feedback: one reviewer praised the memory care neighborhood, while others expressed major concerns about safety and suitability for vulnerable residents.

Management and transparency are recurring themes. Multiple reviewers accused leadership of dishonesty, providing misleading positive portrayals, or even producing fake positive reviews. At least one reviewer described involving law enforcement and contemplated legal remedies due to perceived negligence. Conversely, other reviewers credited new ownership with improvements, suggesting that changes in management might influence care quality positively for some residents.

Overall, the pattern across reviews suggests an inconsistent experience at Birchwood of Beeville: families and residents report both instances of compassionate, capable caregiving and instances of serious neglect, unsafe practices, and poor management. The variability implies that outcomes may depend heavily on specific staff members, shifts, or perhaps recent administrative changes. For anyone considering placement, these reviews point to the importance of in-person visits, careful questions about clinical governance (medication, diet, wound care, pest control), verification of staff training/turnover, and close monitoring during the initial enrollment period. Families with high medical or dietary needs, or those seeking consistently regulated memory care, should proceed cautiously and consider seeking detailed assurances in writing regarding care plans, incident reporting, and escalation protocols.
