    About Brookwood Community

Brookwood Community sits on 485 acres in Brookshire, Texas, and has served adults with disabilities since the 1980s, offering both day and residential programs so folks can live, work, and learn together with real purpose. The campus features a big gift and garden center open Monday through Saturday, where you'll find plants grown in more than 30 greenhouses, as the Citizens-what they call their community members-grow about 210,000 plants every year, including nearly 50,000 poinsettias for their annual fundraiser. There's a café on site called The Café at Brookwood, which serves lunch from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm and needs reservations, and if you enjoy crafts, you'll find Citizen-made pottery, jewelry, woodworking, and even soap for sale both at the center, in their online store, and through their Shudde Bros Hat Factory.

Citizens do meaningful work every day, creating gifts and seasonal items like Christmas ornaments and comfort bowls, all designed and made by their own hands, while the Citizen Art Gallery puts their creations on display for visitors. Residents live in homes called Citizen Homes, which hold 10-12 men or women each, along with a larger Inn that's dormitory-style and has space for up to 33 people, where Home Parents and Direct Support Professionals help everyone with both daily needs and community involvement, so there's always someone there to lend a hand while encouraging independence. The village has areas for working, gathering, and worshipping, with a dedicated Center for Learning where staff shares their approach with caregivers across the country, and the interfaith worship center welcomes everyone for spiritual activities.

Fitness and health are a focus too, with an indoor pool, gym, and onsite clinic available to Citizens, and there are special events like fall festivals, seasonal workshops, and even an annual conference for learning and community building. Some Citizens work at satellite locations in The Woodlands and Richmond. Brookwood's retail and enterprise programs, including wholesale plant sales and corporate gifts, let the Citizens earn wages and build valuable skills, while volunteer and internship programs let others from the community come in to help or learn. At heart, Brookwood Community keeps its mission centered on giving adults with disabilities a place to belong, opportunities to be productive, and a wholesome, purpose-filled life where everyone pitches in.
