    Pleasant community but staffing concerns

I live at Wilshire and overall I'm happy - it's a pretty, large facility with great activities (I've made friends), on-site doctor/PT, salon, laundry, transport, quick maintenance, and a nice dining room with restaurant-style weekly menus. My tiny studio has a large bathroom and wall kitchenette and rooms are kept clean. Care staff I've met are kind, responsive, and communicate via text; a nurse problem was addressed and replaced quickly. That said, recent ownership/management changes have caused supervision problems, high staff turnover (some great staff left), broken promises, and unresponsive directors; it feels short-staffed and family outreach is limited. Cost feels high given those management/staffing issues. I recommend Wilshire for the community and services, but with caution about leadership and staffing stability.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is mixed but leans toward positive for day-to-day resident experience and amenities, while showing consistent concerns around management, staffing stability, and value. Many reviewers praise the facility’s tangible services: restaurant-quality dinners, a weekly menu with multiple options, on-site medical support (doctor and physical therapist), salon services (haircuts and nails), transportation to appointments, and laundry facilities. Several families and residents reported quick move-ins and assessments, proactive communication via text messages, and prompt maintenance responses. For a number of residents the variety of activities, opportunities to make friends, and the sense of peace of mind provided by the community are standout positives.

Care quality is described with contrasting experiences. Numerous summaries note kind and caring direct care staff, responsive caregiving, and concrete resolutions when problems arise (for example, a nurse issue that was addressed and the staff member replaced). On-site medical services and physical therapy are appreciated and add clinical convenience. However, there are serious reports of care concerns being dismissed by management in at least one case where a family felt they could no longer keep their parent at Wilshire. Short-staffing and inconsistent staff responsiveness are recurrent themes that sometimes undermine the quality of care for some residents.

Staff and management emerge as the most polarized theme. Reviewers frequently describe staff kindness and specific staff who were excellent, but they also emphasize high turnover and a revolving staff roster. Multiple accounts link these problems to ownership and management changes: some reports mention great staff leaving after new management arrived and ownership-change “hiccups.” Several summaries call out unresponsiveness at the executive-director and wellness-director levels, broken promises by management, and a perceived decline in oversight and supervision. These management issues appear to be the primary driver of negative sentiment and are cited as causing or exacerbating other problems (e.g., staffing shortages, unresolved family concerns).

Facility features and living spaces receive mixed comments. The campus itself is described as large and pretty, with a nice dining room and some roomy bathrooms. However, several reviewers complain about very small studio units and the “wall-type” kitchen configuration in some rooms, raising concerns about comfort and perceived value. Maintenance responsiveness is singled out positively, but physical room size and layout are common negatives, especially when weighed against the cost.

Dining and activities are both notable drivers of resident satisfaction, but with caveats. Food earns praise from many (restaurant-quality dinner; weekly menus with options), though some reviewers say food quality has not improved and could still be better. Activities are frequently described as “the best part,” offering many options and social opportunities that help residents form friendships and remain happy. A consistent shortfall is inadequate outreach—some families say there is a lack of direct invitations to activities or insufficient family-centered events, which can limit participation for less social residents.

Cost and value are recurring concerns. Multiple reviewers question the expense relative to perceived value, citing a combination of smaller room sizes, inconsistent food improvements, staffing instability, and management problems as factors that reduce overall value. Positive operational attributes—such as on-site medical care, transportation, salon services, and solid cleaning and maintenance—mitigate some concerns, but cost remains a sticking point for some families.

In summary, Wilshire presents a mix of strong, resident-facing services and amenities alongside significant administrative and staffing challenges. If you prioritize on-site medical care, robust activities, salon and transportation services, attentive housekeeping, and pleasant communal spaces, many reviews indicate Wilshire can deliver those. Conversely, prospective residents and families should be alert to variability in staffing, the impact of recent ownership/management changes, smaller studio layouts, and inconsistent leadership responsiveness. These latter issues are the most frequently cited negatives and are the most likely to affect long-term satisfaction. For decision-making, the pattern suggests asking targeted questions about current staffing levels, management stability, room sizes, and concrete plans for addressing any ongoing food or care-quality concerns before committing.

    About Wilshire

Wilshire sits on a 25-acre, fully gated property with elegant landscaping, lots of trees, and walking paths you can use for relaxation or outdoor activities, and you'll see right away how much green space there is. The community offers different types of homes, like waterfront cottages for those who want privacy, as well as apartments, condos, and townhomes with features like walk-in closets, kitchens with granite countertops, dishwashers, pantry space, ceiling fans, and even attached garages for some units, and you'll find patios or balconies and grills outside, which makes it nice for gathering or enjoying the outdoors when the weather's good.

Meals get cooked by professional chefs and are served either restaurant-style or delivered to your room, and you can pick from 14 menu items every day, with options for special diets like gluten-free, vegan, kosher, or pureed meals, plus anytime dining if you get hungry outside the usual hours, so you can always find something you like to eat. Cleaning, laundry, and linen services are part of daily life here, and there are personal care assistants on site to help with bathing, dressing, and medication management, with nursing staff available part-time for extra health support.

You won't have to worry about getting out to appointments or shopping, because there's general transportation included, and the staff arranges group outings and scheduled rides. Safety's a big focus, so you'll see that the whole place is gated, has courtesy patrol, and has emergency call systems in every unit, making sure someone's always close by if you need help. The community welcomes cats and dogs, with a limit of two per unit and some breed restrictions, and you need to pay a $1,500 pet fee and $25 monthly rent for pets, but there are pet-friendly walking areas and attached garages for your convenience.

There are a lot of things to do with a seven-day-a-week Enrichment Coordinator planning games, clubs, social events, and outings, plus a swimming pool, yoga and tai chi classes, walking clubs, a fitness room, a computer center, a theater for movies, a business center, billiards and game area, literary and music groups, and even a beauty salon and full-service barber. The community supports religious services on site and has gathering areas for private or group activities, so you won't feel disconnected, whether you like to join in with others or have quiet time.

The care offered here covers independent seniors looking for a maintenance-free lifestyle, those needing some daily help in assisted living, and people with memory concerns, thanks to a secure memory care unit with its own staff and routines. They help veterans with VA aid, and give guidance about long-term care and protecting assets, so you can get support if you're planning for your future or have legal questions about things like Medicaid or trusts, and families can talk with elder care experts as needed. For health needs, there are medication reminders, incontinence and diabetic care, physical and occupational therapy, and help for non-ambulatory residents or those requiring higher levels of oversight.

Wilshire has units from 1 to 3 bedrooms, some as small as 33 square feet up to close to 1,850 square feet, and you can choose floorplans with studies or extra garages if you need them, so there's flexibility whether you want a cozy apartment or more space. The place is wheelchair accessible and has elevators, which makes moving around easier for everyone, and with Wi-Fi and cable TV available, you can stay connected.

Built in 2021 and managed by WindRiver Companies, Wilshire brings together all major types of senior living-independent living, assisted living, memory care, and continuing care retirement options-with around-the-clock staff on one campus, so you can stay in the same place as your needs change, and there's always someone on hand for support. There's help with legal protections and counseling, especially around housing and income, including support for LGBTQ residents, and services made to help both residents and families handle the details of getting older. This place isn't perfect, but it's new, clean, and thought out so you have choices and comfort as you age.
