    Warm staff, spotless community, pricey

I toured Avanti and felt welcomed by warm, family-like staff (Melody in sales was charming and helpful), a spotless, hotel-like community, plentiful activities, and strong memory-care nursing that noticeably improved my parents' quality of life. That said, costs are high, food quality/variety is inconsistent, and there are troubling, intermittent reports about medication/safety issues and refund/financial handling-so get payment/refund terms in writing and ask detailed questions. Overall I'd recommend for the caring staff and clean environment but advise caution around finances and medication/safety.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment is mixed but polarized: a substantial number of reviews strongly praise Avanti Senior Living at Towne Lake for its clean, new, upscale environment, engaging activities, and warmly attentive caregivers, while a worrying minority report serious safety, medication, and management problems. The recurring positive themes center on environment, relationships, and programming: reviewers frequently describe a modern, hotel-like facility with spacious apartments, attractive common areas, and a variety of amenities (salon, art studio, multiple dining venues). Many families emphasize that front-line caregivers are compassionate, attentive, and build personal relationships with residents—staff knowing residents by name, providing emotional support, and coordinating well with hospice or other outside providers. Activity programming (exercise, arts and crafts, outings, pet events) and wellness offerings (senior yoga, fitness classes) are repeatedly cited as improving residents' quality of life, adding purpose and social engagement. Cleanliness and maintenance are consistently noted as strengths, and several reviews specifically call out memory care as secure, separate, and staffed by trained personnel.

However, the most critical and actionable pattern in the reviews concerns inconsistent care quality and several serious safety/medical incidents. Multiple accounts allege medication mismanagement, including overmedication, abrupt increases in medications, and at least one claim of the wrong chemotherapy drugs — issues that families describe as producing sedation or "zombie-like" states and forcing residents to move out. There are also troubling reports of injuries requiring medical attention (including head injuries), nighttime lapses in staff rounds, slow emergency pull responses, and instances of residents leaving rooms unsupervised or having personal items disturbed by others. These safety-related complaints contrast sharply with other reviews that state there is 24/7 staffing and secure memory-care access. The juxtaposition suggests variability across shifts, specific staff members, or possibly across different units or phases of the facility’s operation.

Management, billing, and sales practices are another major fault line. Several reviews describe defensive or unresponsive leadership when families raise complaints, lack of follow-up, and even aggressive reactions (legal threats) in disputes. Financial and sales-related complaints recur: promised refundable deposits that allegedly were not returned, unclear or deceptive promotional terms, mandatory add-on charges (such as a 24-hour care fee), and perceived predatory tactics toward vulnerable elders. These issues undermine trust even when clinical care or amenities are praised. Visitors and prospective residents also report varying tour/sales experiences—some find marketing staff honest and helpful, while others call out misrepresentations or high-pressure tactics.

Dining and nutrition are frequently mentioned with mixed assessments. Many reviewers praise chef-prepared meals, flexible dining options, and accommodations for dietary needs (salt/restricted diets). Others report declining or inconsistent food quality over time: dry or overcooked meats, limited fresh vegetables/fruit, repetitive menus (e.g., frequent ice cream servings), and occasional shortages. Such variability suggests kitchen staffing or procurement issues at times. Cost is another recurring concern: multiple reviewers note that Avanti is expensive and at the high end of the local market; some feel the cost is not always matched by consistent food or care quality.

A clear pattern is the sharp divergence of experiences—some families offer full endorsements, praising hands-on leadership, quick responses, and noticeable improvements in residents’ mood and function; others recount traumatic experiences involving medication errors, alleged neglect, evasive management, and unresolved financial disputes. Contributing factors implied by the reviews include staff turnover, inconsistent leadership follow-through, and differences between shifts or across specific units. Positive themes—cleanliness, engaged staff, robust programming, and secure memory care—are strong and frequent, but the negative reports are serious in nature (medical errors, safety lapses, allegations of abuse/neglect, financial deception) and would be disqualifying for many families.

In sum, Avanti Senior Living at Towne Lake appears to offer many of the hallmarks of a high-end, life-enriching senior community—modern facilities, numerous activities, caring caregivers, and strong amenities—while simultaneously exhibiting potentially critical and recurring risks around medication management, incident response, staffing consistency, and business practices. Families considering this facility should request and verify specific, current information in writing: staffing ratios by shift, medication administration policies and oversight, incident/complaint resolution procedures, written copies of all fees and refund policies, recent inspection or survey results, and references from current resident families. Given the mix of glowing endorsements and severe allegations, on-site verification and careful contract review are essential before making a placement decision.

About Avanti Senior Living at Towne Lake

Avanti Senior Living at Towne Lake sits on Lakecrest View Drive and has assisted living, memory care, and options for independent living, with skilled care on-site and a licensed capacity for 98 people, including 40 with Alzheimer's or other dementias, and the place does get waitlists for some apartment sizes in both assisted living and memory care, so that tells you folks do stick around for a while. Residents get help with daily tasks like bathing and dressing if they need it, but the community aims to help people stay independent as much as possible. Salize Memory Care is their main program for folks facing memory loss, with custom plans, a secure environment, and daily activities to help keep minds active, and there's a focus on exercise and good food, since they say those lower stress and maybe even help some people need fewer mood medications.

People who like social events will find plenty to do, since there are activities like art classes, music, educational groups, fitness and yoga, and movie nights both inside and outside, plus a wellness program called MIND/BODY/STRENGTH and a fitness coach named Charlotte helping out. On top of that, the facility has a Savor Lounge where snacks and drinks are always on offer, with happy hour every day, and the Taste restaurant cooks three fresh meals daily with a trained chef, and options changed through the week, and folks can ask for private dining or to take meals on the go. They set aside time for devotional services, both at the community and at local places, and provide rides to restaurants, shops, and appointments within a 15-mile radius.

Avanti runs weekly staff training on topics like fall prevention and dementia care, plus monthly safety drills and a dedicated staff including nine managers and an RN with a five-year record at the place, and staff are around 24 hours with a nurse present for at least half the day, with call systems and nighttime help too. The living spaces are set up with comfort in mind, with small or large one-bedroom apartments and some two-bedrooms in assisted living, and private suites in memory care, each with access to outdoor spaces and patios, and common areas like a spa and salon, game room, library, fitness center, and lounge.

Avanti is pet-friendly, letting folks bring cats or dogs under 35 pounds as long as families help out with pet care, and the staff will help with evacuation if needed. Rent covers most care in memory care ($5,700 for a private suite) and starts at $4,900 for small assisted living apartments, but more personal care can raise the total. They don't offer temporary or respite stays, so all residents are there for the long haul, and when someone has a complaint, the Executive Director or Nurse is open to hearing concerns directly, instead of long forms or impersonal feedback. The Salize transition program slowly introduces new memory care residents with social activities and meals to help them adjust. The place seems focused on keeping people calm, safe, and as comfortable and active as each person can manage, and people note friendly, helpful staff and a comfortable environment, although living here tends to cost more than some other communities in the area. The state of Texas licenses the facility (License #148722), and feedback on online review sites averages out at 6.4, so while the place offers plenty of features, it's not perfect for everyone, and it helps to look at the details along with your own priorities before making a decision.
