    Compassionate staff and engaging activities

I'm very pleased with the care my loved one gets here. The staff are kind, professional and attentive - nurses, admissions and therapy teams made the transition smooth, manage meds and appointments, and run lots of engaging activities (therapy animals and robotic pets are a hit). Meals are enjoyable, the facility is clean and welcoming, and staff treat residents like family; I recommend this place for compassionate, knowledgeable care.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Ennis Care Center receives substantial positive feedback for its caring culture, therapy programs, and dining — many families highlight warm staff interactions, an experienced director of nursing, and strong admissions support. The facility appears to invest in rehabilitation and recreational services: reviewers cite successful short-term rehab outcomes, a broad activity schedule, a memory-care program with sensory rooms and large touch-screen resources, and both live and robotic pet therapy that many residents enjoy.

Care and staff: Strengths center on compassionate, resident-focused personnel across nursing, therapy, and admissions. Long-tenured leadership and staff who learn resident names are commonly praised, and reviewers describe good medication management and coordination of outside appointments. However, a discernible pattern of variability in care quality emerges: some families recount delays in attending to personal-care needs and concerns about safety practices such as transfers and fall prevention. There are also comments indicating uneven staff training or supervision, which may contribute to inconsistent experiences between units or shifts.

Dining and activities: Dining is frequently noted as a strong point — an experienced chef and enjoyable meals are highlighted along with family-friendly mealtimes. At the same time, there are specific concerns about inconsistent implementation of therapeutic diets (for example, low- or no-sodium meal plans not always honored). Activity programming is a clear asset: personalized schedules, robust recreational therapy, sensory supports, and animal-assisted options contribute to resident engagement and social connection.

Facility and maintenance: Many reviewers find common areas clean and inviting, but others note signs of an aging building and maintenance needs. Specific facility-level issues include shared bathrooms and remotely located showers in some units, thin or substandard mattresses affecting comfort, and occasional sanitation or odor concerns. These items point to infrastructure and room-comfort areas that may require attention.

Management and patterns: Leadership and admissions staff draw consistent praise for communication and support during transitions. At the same time, several families flag operational gaps — particularly around staff training, vetting, and consistent adherence to care plans — that can produce widely different experiences. Prospective residents and families may benefit from on-site conversations with management about diet accommodations, mattress/room options, bathroom arrangements, staffing ratios, fall-prevention protocols, and how the facility addresses maintenance tickets to align expectations with the unit or room under consideration.
