    Comfortable, caring community with caveats

I moved into this community and overall I'm pleased - my apartment is comfortable and attractive, the staff are friendly and caring, the food and activities are excellent, and it feels safe and welcoming. It's a great fit for mostly independent seniors who want lots of programming and on-site services. Be aware it's on the pricey side and you may encounter occasional issues - limited weekend dining, biweekly housekeeping, some billing/medication inconsistencies and periodic staff turnover. Despite those caveats, I would recommend it for its community, care, and quality of life.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: Reviews for Ridgmar Place are mixed but tilt toward positive for independent, active seniors seeking a social community with abundant activities and many on-site amenities. The most consistent positive themes are friendly, caring staff members, an active calendar of events, clean and updated public spaces, and amenities such as a saltwater pool and exercise rooms. Multiple reviewers describe smooth move-ins, good orientation experiences, and strong therapy/rehab support after hospitalization. Many residents and families say the community feels welcoming and like a family, and report that residents are socially engaged and happy.

Staff and care: The majority of reviews praise individual staff members — from directors and sales personnel to caregiving teams — as compassionate, proactive, and willing to go above and beyond. Several reviews call out specific employees who resolved problems and stayed with issues until they were fixed. Therapy and rehab services receive particular praise in multiple accounts for effectiveness and continuity. However, there is a recurring and significant counterpoint: staffing shortages and turnover are commonly reported, and some reviewers say nursing and higher-acuity care are inconsistent or inadequate. For families with residents who need more than basic independent-living assistance, several reviewers explicitly caution that Ridgmar may not meet higher-level nursing needs.

Facilities and maintenance: Many reviewers note recent remodels and refreshed common areas, upgraded carpeting, and well-kept grounds. Apartments are described as spacious in many cases, with full kitchens and some units offering in-unit washers/dryers. The pool and exercise facilities are frequently cited as strong amenities. On the negative side, there are repeated reports of maintenance problems — broken elevators for extended periods, initial AC problems, leaks and mold in apartments — and some accounts describe slow or inadequate responses. Construction and remodel-related disruptions are also mentioned: while spaces look fresher after upgrades, the process created challenges for some residents.

Dining and housekeeping: Dining impressions are mixed and appear to have changed over time for a number of reviewers. Many initially praise the food, special meals (Sunday brunch), table settings, and chef responsiveness; others report a decline with smaller portions, no second helpings, elimination of brunch or dinner service on weekends, and bland or cold meals. Housekeeping is offered (biweekly in many cases) and is appreciated when delivered reliably, but several reviews recount inconsistent housekeeping and linen service problems. These inconsistencies with dining and housekeeping are among the most frequently cited operational complaints.

Management, communication, and billing: Communication and leadership are recurring areas of concern. Some reviewers describe professional, proactive management and directors who respond quickly; others describe leadership turnover, poor corporate responsiveness, and fragmented interdepartmental communication. Front-desk responsiveness and phone handling vary widely — there are complaints about long hold times, no returned calls, and staff appearing distracted. Billing problems are a frequent complaint: unexpected charges, invoice inaccuracies, and post-move rent/price increases or extra home-health charges led multiple families to feel misled or frustrated.

Cleanliness and safety concerns: While many report a clean and safe environment, there are isolated but serious accounts of pest infestations (bed bugs, cockroaches) and mold in apartments. Such reports are serious red flags for prospective residents; some reviewers said remediation took time and communication about those issues was lacking. A few reviews mention security concerns or theft incidents, though these are less common than other complaints.

Who this fits and who should be cautious: Ridgmar Place appears well suited for relatively independent seniors who want a social, amenity-rich environment and who will benefit from robust activities, therapy options, and attentive staff members. It is frequently described as a safe, friendly community with good meals and many social opportunities. Prospective residents who need consistent, higher-level nursing care should exercise caution: nursing and medication administration are described as inconsistent in several accounts. Likewise, those very sensitive to cleanliness/pest history, strict billing transparency, or who require predictable weekend dining should verify current practices directly.

Recommendations for prospective residents/families: Many reviewers recommend touring (positive tour experiences are a recurring theme) and speaking directly with current residents about day-to-day life. Ask clear questions about the current meal schedule (weekend meals, brunch availability), pest remediation history and policies, staffing ratios and turnover, sample bills and what charges are extra, housekeeping frequency, and how leadership handles maintenance and complaints. Given the variability in experiences, confirm any verbal promises in writing (including pricing and services) and request recent references from families of current residents.

Bottom line: Ridgmar Place offers a vibrant independent-living environment with many strengths — engaged staff, plentiful activities, updated facilities, and strong therapy services — but also shows clear operational weaknesses in consistency: dining, housekeeping, maintenance, pest control, billing, and staffing can be uneven. The community earns many strong recommendations from satisfied residents and families, yet the frequency of significant complaints suggests careful, specific due diligence is essential before committing, particularly for those with higher care needs or who are sensitive to cleanliness and billing transparency.
